Hi Nosivad, glad to hear you had good weather, what a disappointment it must be coming back to this dull dreary English weather. Can't believe that the Monte Velho was so expensive, last bottle I bought was around €3.
..... Well, it's a bloody long time since you paid for the drinks, then !!!last bottle I bought was around €3.
(.... are you sure it was euros and not escudos ?? )
Sagres its gotta be 12 months or more since I bought a bottle of monte velho as I have been drinking Tinoco, didnt realise it had increased in price so much. I aint answering the question regarding not buying drinks as its not fit to be aired on the forums
haha, nice to hear there was some decent weather somewhere in the world, was a bit on the cold side over New year when we went but certainly didnt spoil it.
Last post 4th March !! C'mon folks - use it or lose it !!

so where have you been hiding
was thinking same thing Wiz
as it appears to be all quiet here I will post some trivia just back from 16days break and during that time went to Lagos only to find that the far end from the church to the fire station is being dug up the only things left intact are the statues, with that amount of work going on I can,t see it being finished for the main season.Still no figure of chicken in centre of roundabout at Guia although the artist commissioned to make it has started the work Found some monte velho in restaurant Tia Rosa in Lagoa although it was 8.50 euros for a bottle
in situ but had sufferd the indignity of having binsacs over them.( Probably to stop them seeing the carnage being caused by the JCB's )
In fairness €8:50 in a restaurant is quite reasonable; we've been paying between €11 and €15 in restaurants in Lagos for quite some time now. When we were there in December the statues of Henry the Navigator and Gil Eannes were The construction of the underground car park along the riverfront and the subsequent tidying up is going to take ages.
I was rather put off by the nasty looking hotels being built across the river at Meia Praia, does nothing for the view, and the amount of construction work in the general area opposite the marina.
Just checked your new photos out, Tom - thanks for posting them. The Lagos development seems to be very slow, although much of the work will be below ground level and not visible, I suppose. I still have serious concerns that, when the weather conditions and tides conspire, with heavy rainfall and high tides combining, the new underground car park will become the new undergound swimming baths !!
I must admit that last though hadn't occurred to me! I guess the water table must be fairly high around there, as the area is basically land reclaimed from the sea.
The existing wall to the rear of the new construction is the original sea wall - and look how high that is !!! I was speaking at Christmas to a life-long resident of Lagos who told me that the very same architect who warned the Albufeira Camara of the impending drainage problems if their development continued ( ignored as we know all too well ) also advised against Lagos' proposed development because of the flooding risk. We shall see..........
I read yesterday that an ancient plague pit and cemetery have been uncovered on a section of the site. Work on part of the project is being delayed as the archaeological excavations proceed. Apparently the skeletons show signs of leprosy, so it's quite an important historical discovery.
It's just possible that some of the skeletons are of motorists who passed away whilst queueing for a parking space in the summer !!
Thinks cubby should start a topic on lagos town works, only a suggestion boys.
Went to Lagos in September and it looked as if the building work had only just started then. Rembered walking around in circles trying to find the statue of Henry, until realised day before I went home he was the one with the black bag on his head Had a great time there and would go back again. However, decided to go to Tavira.
