Thanks for the info everyone,
Getting away from work, email, internet, phones etc and just being able to relax will be wonderful. Good weather will be a bonus.
Sue
My partner and I are also on the vision for 21 day cruise on 12th April We have cruised with royal caribbean quite a few times and will become diamond members on the second leg of our journey we think they are fantastic great ships great staff and we have met some lovely people on board and remained friends to answer a few of your questions the airline we fly with is globespan a scotish air line chartered by RCI a tips we only tip who we think deserves it the amount is to your descretion we dont do the set amount per passanger per day thing, as for tuxedos a lot of men wear them i prefeer to wear a suite individual taste whatever you wear you wont feel out off place they do draught beer but as there will be a lot of English on board for the transatlantic leg it probably will run dry we have never been on the vision so cant realy tell you any more about her but if she is like the rest of their fleet we should all have a great time hope this has helped 23 days to go cant wait see you all on-board
Thanks for all the info. I'm really looking forward to this. The prospect of three weeks away from the emails, phone and work had got to be good. Add in all that the cruise has to offer and it's easily great.
One question though - how do people get to meet up? After all we don/t know who's who from this.
Hi thats easy we will be in the schooner bar every night lol. No seriously if you would like to meet for a drink our cabin number should be 8064 so you can call us or leave a message i say should be because we have moved cabins and are still waiting for it to be confirmed if it changes i will post a new message. We have already arranged to meet someone from another cruise furom who is travelling alone on the cruise so the more the merrier excuse my bad speling hope to see you in 23 days

Tina
Think it might be me confusing things. I'm not used to the board and didn't see the right names. I'm Sue, husband Bill. From memory, we're in 4028 asn we'd love to meet up with anyone. What's the roll call? I'll have to go and take a look.
Anyone doing the Harwich-Amsterdam-Oslo cruise on 3rd May?
I now have our cabin No. virgin let us down on the move but hey not to worrie our cabin No. is now 8068 so just give us a call and we will meet up for a drink 22days and counting
I'm Drew, travelling on the 12th on the Vision, Caribbean and Transatlantic. I also have done a transatlantic crossing before, 2 years ago out of Fort Lauderdale to Dover. Was in April, and we had great sunny weather right until Vigo (went via Maderia). So I'm expecting similar weather.
I'm actually travelling on my own on this holiday, using up my holiday entitlement and looking foward to relaxing, drinking and generally getting away from work stuff !!! My mates are taking the mick out of me for travelling alone, but I reckon they're just jealous as they can't get time off !
Re the tips, I thought that all tips were included with Virgin on this cruise? Am I wrong?
Be good to meet all of you!
Regards,
Drew
ps - if any of you are on facebook, you can check me out - look up Drew Tankersley and add me as a friend....
Oh dear I must be a right Saddo, I am the only one on here on a Saturday night, not long to go now untill we get some tropical heat. I am hoping that we keep the nice weather that we are having now untill we go so I can get my skin ready for the Sun. Nick we are on the same deck as you deck 8, we have the aft cabin and the balcony is supposed to be massive so if the latinos wont let us enjoy ourselves in the bars in the first week we can have a party on my balcony lol, what age groups are you in, I am 57 and Roy is 55 but we are not old fogies we are on the cruise as a present to ourselves as we have our 36th Wedding Anniversary and Roys Birthday in April so we decided to treat ourselves. We have cruised before and done one Transatlantic We preferd it sailing back home instead of a long flight was so much more restfull. hope to meet you soon.
Tina
party on your balcony sounds good lol I turn 40 3 days before we go and phil is 49 not worried about the latinos if you cant beat them join them i dont think they will be a problem i have read so many reviews now i get the impression that its just a few people having a moan. Genrally most people hve rated the ship and itineray i dont care its 3 weeks away from work
Hi
A party on Tina's balcony sounds great! We may be louder than the Latino's ! (only joking)
Can't wait now, 21 days to go ! Got so much work to do before then though, reckon I'll be burning the midnight oil a bit to get everything done, then 3 weeks of relaxation!
I'm thinking the flight out is going to be eventful with 'flyglobespan' one way or another!, and I can't wait to see all our reviews of the holiday too!
Anyone had any confirmation of any tourist visa requirements at all?
cheers, Drew
There's getting to be too many of us to list all names. Definitely enough for a party! I'm 55, Bill's 62 (going on 22) and we don't know the meaning of old fogey. We're celebrating our 30th anniversary on the 19th April, so between us we seem to have plenty of reasons for having a party.
Like Drew, lots of work to get out of the way in the next few weeks before I can relax for a whole 3 weeks. It's a few years since we've been able to get three weeks away and we're really looking forward to it.
I've never flown with Globespan - Drew, why do you think it will be eventful? What are they like?
Looking forward to meeting you all.
Sue
Flyglobespan are a small scottish based charter flight company with a poor customer satisfaction record, due to them consistently changing departure airport at the last minute, (lots of complaints of them changing the dep airport with 24hrs notice from Aberdeen to Glasgow instead, for eg) poor record of time keeping, quality issues with the aircraft etc etc. I think that because they have so few planes in their fleet, when there's a delay or a breakdown, it has a massive knock on effect to their other flights. Whereas large airlines like BA usually can bring another aircraft into service pretty quickly etc.
However, the good news is that this flight is not a 'normal' charter, as this is exclusive to RCCI, so only passengers on our cruise will be on this flight, and I'm hoping that RCCI have a 'good' contract with flyglobespan and built in a contingency for departure delays etc..
For previous cruises out of Santo Domingo, right up to our departure date, RCCI have been using Thomas Cook. Not sure why we've got 'flyglobespan', but we have !
Best Regards, Drew
Was just wondering - where is everyone from in the UK?
I'm originally from Yorkshire, now working in Cambridgeshire.
21 days and counting....
Drew
Hi Drew and All. We live in a little village just outside spalding in Lincolnshire hence screen name lincolnshire lass but really shouldnt call mysef that as we have only lived here 7 years, originaly from Edmonton in North London. but have always felt that this is my spiritual home and would not return to London for a Kings Ransome. Drew do you live anywhere near Eynsbury my sister in law lives there.
Phil and i are from Redditch in Worcetershire no to far from birmingham so are we all going to meet up for pre flight drinks we will need one to get through the 11 hour flight im not really big on flying i try to sleep through most of it.
any way 21 days and counting hope they go fast
nick
Hi Tina, I'm actually based near Peterboro' now, been there for a few months, and still getting used to the area. I still have my home in Yorkshire, which is where I was this weekend. My work takes me round the UK, and I was in Leeds this morning, and right now, I'm typing this from my hotel room next to Wembly Stadium! In London tomorrow, Peterboro' Wednesday, Rotherham Thursday, and London Friday and the weekend......
Nick - are you suggesting drinking at 7am in the morning as we wait for the flight??? Wow you are a nervous flyer ! LOL I worked it out to be a 9hr flight, but may be wrong. Virgin tell me its a 9.10 departure time, with arrival at 2pm - and they are 4 hrs behind in the dom rep? or is it 5hrs behind?
I booked a premium economy seat too, to try and get some additional leg room, and like you, snooze during the flight !
Catch you soon...
Drew
