We have recentley returned from the Eastern Algarve for a short break, and were delighted with the area. We ( Sue and I ), stayed at Cabanas, near Taveria, and found it to be such a quaint, pretty and fairly unspoilt little town ( though there is a lot of building work going on-hope it does'nt spoil it). It was very peaceful, and served as a great base for exploring the surrounding area. It had all the facilities we needed, shops, bars, restaurants ATMs etc, with friendly locals. We booked the appartment from Owners Direct, which proved to be simple and cost effective. The owner met us on arrival, which was a nice touch. Although fairly early on in the season, most places were open, except the water taxi, which was a disappointment.
We spent every day exploring the beautiful little villages and beaches. Taveria was lovely and we enjoyed boat trip to Ilha de Taveria. Even had a visit over the border to Spain, but was not impressed with Isla Canella or the area-very man made and appeared to be a ghost town out of season. All in all we had a fab time, and have already booked to return to Cabanas in early September and we can't wait. If anyone has any views on this area, or tips for places to visit, we'd be very interested in hearing them.
