Welcome home Ellie Meg and hubby. :pele
I would definately do what bluepeter rewcommends and visit your GP asap to get hubby checked out otherwise you may have a problem getting insurance to cover you.

So glad you are back Karen and that Oz is OK. Hope he continues to recover, I agree with Peter though, best for him to go and get checked out at GP. I know he is self-employed an dyou said losing money all the extra time in Turkey, is he itching to get back to work ? It's really difficult when this this type of thing happens and you are SE, but I guess your health has to come first.

Take Care. You must be exhausted.

yes ive told him to visit the dr and we have a letter from hospital listing all his problems and test results etc, some we cant understand lol.

hes not looking forward to going back to work because hes a builder and its heavy going after being so unwell, he loves his job but it is a very strenuous job and a bit concerned he wont be able to cope full time at first so ive said might be best to do a few half days , but hes lost a mths wages and thats a lot to lose when we only allowed for 2 weeks :duh

Fin they had no rights to keep your passports under Turkish law , they asked for ours when my wife was discharged we refused , they didnt like it one bit but we stood our ground and after reading your post im glad we did , we have a Turkish friend who we have stayed in touch with and he told us that they can not keep your passports , its nothing more than blackmail , i hope other people read this and take heed , dont forget Turkey needs its Tourist and of lot of Turks who make their living out of Tourisim dont care much for these private hospitals or the way they treat some tourist .

Hi I must be honest and say I had the best treatment that anyone could have had, Doctor waiting at the door of the hospital when Ambulance arrived to escort me to treatment room to be assessed as they thought the foot was broken. The Hospital was spotlessly clean (I work for the Health Service here and have seen a lot over the years that has shocked me) I was shocked at how clean the Turkish Hospital was.
The pass port issue I think was because we had only taken insurance documents and pass port with us to the hospital "no money" as I was in an ambulance before I could think what was happening (manager of Apartments phoned straight away when he had seen what had happened)also my Grand Daughter who was with us and only five was in a terrible state when she realised that I had hurt myself, they held my pass port and wouldn't release me until my husband returned to apartments and got our C.C. to pay the bill.
If I had been on my own with my husband I wouldn't even have thought of taking my pass port but my daughter was with us and she is a travel agent and it was her who shoved my pass port and insurance documents into her dad's hand when we were in the ambulance or we wouldn't have had them with us either.

as we were leaving and trying to explain to them we didnt need to pay excess as insurance company had guaranteed full payment to them etc and got no where , we found them fairly agressive, 1 girl who spoke perfect english and i assumed was something like dutch even followed me and listened to my phone call to my insurance co which i thought was a bit much, but in the end they totally refused to accept this so we had to pay, there were 2 young english girls who looked about 18-20 who came over to me and said they were having the same problem and were on their own there, they had kept the girl who had been in hospitals passport and refused to give it her back, her mother had from the uk had paid the insurance the excess as the girls didnt have enough money to pay and the hospital were refusing to accept this too, we left before it was sorted out, but i did say to this dutch looking woman looks a common problem this access not needing to be paid and she just shrugged at me :que

the hospital did look clean, hubby got good treatment although they never communicated with him to tell him what they were giving him and what was wrong etc very much and the staff were not very friendly he said, hes still got pain so going to his dr in the morning

Fin its only because you paid up and then claimed the money back from insurance that they were good with you , we were not in a postion to do that and if you saw the size of the bill we got you would know why , Ellie we know the Dutch lady you mean she is very aggrogant and not a nice person at all in fact only the doctors are ok at the this hospital , my last phone call was listened to as well and thats when they demanded £65 admin fees and the guy on the desk accused me of trying to leave without paying, Ellie ive informed you of our next move with this hospital and ill keep you informed as it goes on , to other people beware of this place there is also a goverment hospital in Marmis you can use plus another private hospital , i wish we had known about the Goverment one we were in the town when my wife sufferd her injury and was taken st8 to Ahu Hetman never again.

Good to see you are both home safely.

Remember to inform your travel insurance of Oz's hospitalisation before your next trip as they may put an exclusion on it or increase the premiums to cover it.

luci we have an annual policy with fortis free with our mortgage co that we have had for years, this is the first time we have used it though and fingers crossed the last :think

You will still need to inform them even if it is an annual policy as it is now a pre-existing condition.

mickarick, I thought that was normal policy to pay then claim when you got back to the U.K. I do understand that when it's for a large amount of money (going into the thousands) they usually contact the insurance company but when it's for a smaller amount (in the lower hundred's bracket) I thought you were expected to use a C.C. or pay up.
We have talked among friends at home since this happened and most have commented what would happen if you didn't have the money or a C.C. to pay up, I would love to know the answer but don't fancy trying it to see lol.

Fin when we were there a young lad had been brought in the night before with a head injury he had, had one to many and fell over, he had no insurance (silly boy ) they got him to phone his family back home to raise the cash in the end his dad paid on his card from home, was about £500 i heard after, anyway talking to our Turkish friend he tells us that Turkey has a duty to look after its tourist so if you have no cash or insurance they are duty bound to care for you, this hospital comes across like it runs Turkey keeping passports etc threats of we will stop you leaving the country , well they cant and people need to know this they are a private buisness and their main concern is money and lots of it .

I would urge anyone going abroad to take insurance with them its stupid not to, but when you have then get treated the way we and others were its not on .

What a worry for you both but at least you are now home with your family.
Of course you are concerned about Oz being self employed but maybe at the moment it is better to take everything on a
day by day basis and concentrate on you both getting the best advice from the experts and medics.

You know a lot of people are thinking of you. x
