I would highly recommend taking Vitamin B complex tablets 2 weeks before you go and 1 a day whilst you are away, just came back from Turkey this year and it did work, not one bite

digby, you won't be able to take the bottle as hand luggage due to the restrictions on liquids over 100mls.

Hi scubaleana, usually mosquito's get you dusk and dawn, but we use a suntan lotion with added insect repellant during the day, also the aftersun with added insect repellant is great, then put your usual repellant on over the aftersun at night time after your evening shower, should work !!
good luck !

The glass bottle and contents might weigh 8 ozs, but the liguid content is 50 mls, so it can go in a plastic bag, in your hand luggage.
They've obviously put it in a good glass bottle to help with transit and because of the essential plant oils in the concoction, which do not store well in plastic and in time, some essential oils can "eat" away the plastic.

It does ponk a bit on application, I could smell the distinctive smell of citronella or lemon grass essential oils, but, it wears off within seconds to the human smell senses.

Sanji. Well that explains it then. I did wonder why they didn't use plastic bottles. Luci, Sorry I should have said the contents were 50ml.

I used these in Turkey a few years ago - I didn't get any bites but the chemicals melted my nail-varnish!

Thanks for the replies

I have already bought all my suncreams and aftersun so i will just spray a some repellant on with it during the day if i get botherd by them and make sure i put plenty on in the evenings and at night also I'm gonna get a plug in for my room but the jungle formula one only comes with a two pin plug but boots own brand has a three pin plug which i will apparently need for gambia.....do you think the boots one will do the same job as the jungle formula one?

:rofl cyber, small price to pay my love !!! I'd much rather have au natural nails than skanky looking red welts !! seriously though, glad you found it worked for you as well as me ( I'm such a mozzy magnet !) am going with sanji's suggestion next year too, with the mosquito milk, just to be on the safe side !
cheers,

scubaleanna, just a thought for you, this year we went to jamaica and were told the mossies and sand flys were particularily vicious, so I hotfooted it down to our 'sports direct' store and went to the camping section where they sell a spray called 'lifesystems' it contains 95% deet, so pretty potent stuff and I can honestly tell you that instead of the usual 150 bites I get, I got only 2, so proper result from that one. Now, it is reported to melt your clothes :yikes , but never happened with me, so just a suggestion for ya !
have fun on your hols,
juby
though I'm going to try mosquito milk for next year, sounds less messy !

I'm kinda hoping that as I have never been one to get bitten even when other people have been that the jungle formula will be enough. Guess i will be able to tell you better when i get home lol

Or perhaps I should do as a friend in work suggested and take a mozzie net for my sun bed :rofl

Thanks again for the helpful advice xxxx

Just had a conversation with Tweetie Pie on the Perfume thread and promised to put this link on the mozzie thread as not all bites could be down to mozzies it could be sand fleas. Here is the link about the little critters.

Few drops of Eucalyptus oil or lemon Eucalyptus oil in to your hand full off suntan lotion and rub on... this is quite effective or Tiger Balm.

My next question is what spray etc is the most effective and puts the mozzies off

What we do is start taking garlic tablets around 6 weeks before we go.... we also use lemon shower gel (and have got to say this the BEST thing we have ever used!!)

Hope that helps :sun2

I have tried searching through old posts to no avail, ( I am rubbish at the search thing :que ). I remember somebody recommending a certain type of vitamin to stop you being bitten, the choice was take the vitamins or eat marmite. we are due to go to thailand in april and there is no reccomendation for anti malaria tablets. I do get bitten to bits, I will also be taking deet spray and eating marmite.... yum :)
if anybody can help that would be great.

hugs la
