Hi qatarman,
I see you fly out of Manchester do they always use two classes or do they have three classes on certain days?
Thanks again
bfletty,
Darren is 100% correct there isnt the market for 1st Class out of Manchester,Qatar are even having their A340-600s refitted and removing the onboard 1st class lounge to allow more Business Class/Economy seats and cutting back on 1st Class promotion.Sign of the times I am afraid.
Hi, In February flying with Qatar airlines from Colombo via Doha to Heathrow, our connection time is only 35mins so a bit concerned we will not make it. The booking was direct with the airline so presume they think this is ok. Will we have to pay if we miss the connection to be transferred to another flight?
That's a little tight and doesn't give much leeway for a late arrival in to Doha. Qatarman is best placed to comment on whether it's doable or not, but the airline wouldn't allow you to book it if it wasn't. You'll just have to go straight to the gate for the next flight as soon as you disembark from Heathrow as the your connecting flight will have already started boarding. If you don't make your connection through the fault of the airline, the airline will transfer you on to the next available flight free of charge.
Darren
Thats a very short connection time,I would say the same as Darren if Qatar Airways have taken the booking they should make sure you catch the onward flight, please remember to book your luggage all the way to Heathrow,I dont wish to worry you but when I came back here in September we disembarked in the new area and it took us 30mins from landing to the arrivals hall and we were 1st off being in Business Class. One tip try and book your seats if you are in economy at the back of the plane as in Doha economy passengers deplane by the rear door.
Thank you both we will have to put our running shoes on!
Qatarman. Thats a good tip about sitting at the back will keep that in mind...
I am a bit like lady when I fly to Doha the connecting flight to Melbourne is only 40 min, if the flight was delayed would they wait for us to arrive or would we have to catch the flight the next day? And if so I would presume they would put us up at a hotel? Thanks again.
Unless there's a large number of people late for the connecting flight, they'll not normally hold the flight. They'll do all they can to get you on it, but holding an aircraft can be costly as well as inconvienient for the other passengers. If you miss the flight through fault of the airline, they'll do what they can to get you on an alternative flight and accomodate you if needed.
Darren
Hi just to add to what Darren has said,I have sat on the Tarmac on a Qatar Airways flight for 45mins waiting for a late passenger??,however I will say I am suprised how many bookings Qatar Airways are accepting with very short connection times.I have also waited 45mins for my luggage while they took the luggage to a waiting Bangkok flight. To be honest I dont think Qatar Airways worry too much about inconveniencing other passengers.
We have a 35 minute change over on our way back from Kerala next March. I queried it's viability with Qatar and they said the minimum they allowed was 30 mins.
Did you ask them to put it in writing?? But as I say they do hold flights.

No !!!!
Since it's on the way home I'm not as bothered about being delayed, and the prices I paid were very, very competitive !
Are the facilities in Doha reasonable ? I believe US $ are the best currency to have for flexibility for such stops ?
cheers Dave.
Where are you flying on to from Doha and what day,as Manchester has only 1 flight a day Heathrow at present 3.Yes USD is okay make sure you get change in USD???? The departure lounge is ok dont think I would like to spend too many hours in there waiting if I missed my connection.
We are flying from both Goa and Trivandrum, the latter is the fast turn around. Both times to Manchester. I'd love to spend a bit of time in Qatar but the hotels look a bit expensive !!!!

They might say that's the minimum they accept, but personally I'd always factor in a longer connection time for peace of mind. I know you're tied to timetables, but it doesn't take much of a delay either to the flight or disembarking the aircraft and you'll struggle to catch your connection. Other airlines stipulate a minimum of 90 minutes.
Darren
I am with you Darren but I have to say Qatar at their hub here in Doha dont seem to follow the norms of other carriers.

We were in a no win situation in terms of alternatives. If we miss the connection due to Qatar, they presumably have to find us a flight. The next one is 18 hours later, which I could have chosen in the first place but didn't as I didn't particularly want to hang around for that long. If it happens and we have to catch that one, at least we have a full day in Qatar rather than an overnight, although the later allows some sleeping time. Alternatively we could have booked to fly to Manchester via Heathrow but they are asking £3580 instead of the £340 we have paid per ticket so that was a NO !!!! Oh, and the change over for the Heathrow flight is only 55 minutes too. Must admit there will be a bit of organising needed for that Trivandrum flight just to get the luggage off in time.
cheers Dave
Hi does anyone know the days qatar depart from manchester and the days they depart from goa, thinking of doing diy booking for 2010 / 2011 as prices for package deals are through the roof, thats depending on next seasons flights being on the same days. Thanks Denham
