Flight Only / Airline and Airports

"In order to pay their way, aircraft need to be in the air 75% of their operational time so it'll be coming in from somewhere! Looking at the aircraft schedule for 752 movements on a Wednesday evening, there's nothing that sticks out so I suspect your flight will be the first out on the morning after some downtime. Even if theres delays from flights the previous day, there's plenty of time to absort them. One of the 752's will be operating a flight to Luxor on Wednesday (the flight I'm on in March!) but arrives back in the evening. Weds/Thurs are quite quiet in the winter months. If you remind me, I'll check again next Thursday to backtrack aircraft movements to confirm things. Todays flight is just closing its doors (at the time I'm typing) so will probably be pushing back 10 or so minutes late."

Darren - Thanks for your offer last week as above. Could you see whether it is the same aircraft as last week please ? And what its movements were ? Perhaps these are causing the slight delays. It was 29 minutes late last week and 30 minutes late today it would appear. Thank you.

HuddersfieldTourist,

TOM818/9 was operated by G-OOBH yesterday. As suspected, the aircraft doesn't operate a flight previously that day. It operated TOM388/9 the previous morning from Manchester to Sal (Cape Verde) arriving back late evening.

Thanks Darren - I can only assume it must be general airport congestion that is causing it to leave 30 minute late as it did last week too !!

I wouldn't have thought so at this time of year! The airport is pretty quiet. There are any number of reasons why it might have pushed late ranging from technical, late passengers, not taking seats quick enough, ATC delays, weather, etc, etc.

Hi Guys

We are looking at booking to go to Cuba (Holgin) in March 2010 although not sure who to go with we love our First Choice flights but Thomas Cook is way way cheaper.

Can you tell me if we fly on 22nd March with Thomson Airways if it will be a ex First Choice plane or Thomson? Also if we were to go with Thomas Cook what the plane would be? I've heard they do not provide seat back screens on their Cuba flights, is this correct.

Thank you in advance! :sun2

Hi,

It will be an ex-First Choice aircraft on the Holguin route, so what your used to.

This previous summer Thomas Cook had one aircraft in their fleet that didn't have seatback entertainment, however it is no longer operating flights to/from the UK.

Legroom is the same in economy (33") as Thomson Airways. The Premium cabin is 1" less at 35" and the seating layout in economy is 3-3-3 some people prefer this some hate it, it depends on how many people are in your party. Those are really the main differences the rest are the same really. Cabin Crew are on par with Thomson Airways, drinks are chargable and similar catering. Duty free selection is similar.

Thomson = 767

Thomas Cook = A330

Further to BY-TOM-AMM-FCA's post, you'll find lots of aircraft information for both airlines on our What Aircraft? guide.

uklady55,

BHX-LRM-BHX (TOM770/1) are operated by a former Thomsonfly Boeing 767-304/ER. However this is subject to change due to aircraft maintenance.

If the delays is passengers are slow taking their seats and the plane has been sat there for hours - why don't they start allowing people on say 10 minutes earlier ? :que

I appreciate they do not want passengers getting on a long time before departure but why not create a small amount of extra time instead of trying to do it in a timespan that may not always be sufficient.

Thanks

I can appreciate where you're coming from, but aviation logistics is a little more complicated than that I'm afraid!
