Like I said, I've stayed there many times and know they have some very nice and some very nasty rooms hence why I was after some options on room number. How long ago were you there and can you remember the nice room number?
I know (used to know) Raul & some of the staff there pretty well so the plan was to phone up to try to get a specific room number before I got there. Its much simpler asking for a number than trying to explain the room type I want over the phone.
I rarely eat at any of the hotels in Goa because there so many better places available so missing out on the hotel food is the norm.
We stayed for 6 weeks before Christmas, and found none of the problems mentioned. It seems that a lot of effort has gone into re-building the hotels reputation with lots of new staff, cooks etc.We had some great steaks for 150 rupees.Have booked to return in Feb and hope standards have been maintained, although being India nothing is guaranteed.
jhh
i would,nt stay there if it was free
Apart from being my worst holiday in Goa, my stay at the Prazeres was probably my worst holiday ever. I'm sure lots of us have got the end of a holiday and thought we've had a good time but now we're ready to go home. This holiday was one I couldn't wait to end, I felt really uncomfortable and unsafe there.
Hi Fritz,This post was supposed to be with other posts re the Hotel, and the big and much needed changes for the better that we saw at the begining of the season during our last stay.I cannot comment on Prazeres rooms as we stay in a private flat.We have been going for the past 9 years and have seen things at their best and at their worst. Our stay in November was a pleasent one with the music ending at a sensible time, generaly a better class of people including the Russians, some good new staff, decent food etc.We did not stay over the Christmas period which would have been the tester.Perhaps others could comment on recent events?
Like you I've stayed at this hotel many times over many years and I've never had any of the experiences some people write about. I've met some great people, including Germans & Russians, some of which liked a drink or two but none of whom have been so out of order I felt threatened or even uncomfortable in any way. Maybe it's the time of year we go (usually November; back end of Feb; or March); maybe we've been lucky (7 or 8 times); or maybe we just don't look like people that can be easily intimidated as there's normally 4-6 30-40 year olds in our party. To be honest the music wouldn't phase me anyway and as I said eating out is the norm so as long as I have a large clean room then I'm going to be happy. I think this means the bar block, the more I think about it the more I'm convinced that's the block with the apartment type rooms but it would be good if someone could confirm this.
Do you know if Raul still runs this hotel. And how about Geoffrey or Cosmic, are they still there?
Mods - can you merge these two prazeres threads please?
that's the old block hypo, I've only ever stayed on the bottom floor of that block, facing onto the pool.
The apartment directly above the bar is very nice, stayed there 3 years ago. It was very noisy, Raoul was in party mode so the music went on virtually every night until at least 4.00am!!!!. No good for me but if you are party people you will probably enjoy it
we had to ask for our room to be cleaned all the time. we had a room over the pool and the noise from the bar till 3oclock every night was unbearable then to top off what a great holiday apart from hotel. we got burgled 2 days before we came home and apparantly this happens quite often and that manager was so arrogant he made out that we had done ourselves.we spent a full day at the police station but nothing got done about it. if it was the place on earth i would not stay there.
I would not stay at this hotel ever again, not whilst I possess the ability to make a sane decision.
Stayed there 3 yrs ago and the rooms were decrepit. We were at the rear blocks overlooking the stream and grasslands. The pokiest bathroom and bedroom i've ever seen. A door that my cat could open, even when locked. Safety deposit boxes that were quadruple the normal charge in rupees. Arrogant bar-staff that started fighting with a couple of lads staying there, actually glassing one of them quite severely. And the straw that broke the camels back for us, one free bog-roll and then you have to purchase your own from thereon-in.
Approx 3/4 mile away, and the Silver Sands Hotel is a complete opposite to this poor excuse for accomodation. If memory serves, we actually payed MORE to stay in the Prazeres than another couple who came out with us did, to stay in the SS.
I cannot state strongly enough what a god-awful 'hotel' the Prazeres was ......... and if it's still under the same owner ...... is !!!!!!!!
Raul is still the owner and certainly in November we never saw him with an alchoholic drink and he couldn't do enough for us.As I said there are a lot of new staff and Geofrey,Cosmi,Salou,Savesh, have all left for pastures new.

I remember this only too well we sent for the F/C rep when they were charging 200 a day yes pr day for the safe box but she said they can charge what they want its up to us if we want one or notSafety deposit boxes that were quadruple the normal charge
Why have we 2 prazeres threads I have just made a post on one of them ...
Merged.
there are 2 new reviews on this hotel and they are very negative. dont know if you have read them yet.
It still seems like the nicest rooms are probably in the bar block so that's what I'm going to be angling for.
I don't doubt there are some potential problems with this hotel but I have to speak from experience and I've never had any of the issues others have had whilst staying here. I can't help but think it might be to do with the time of year and how busy the hotel is.
I've paid £ 545 per person for 2 weeks so I'm not expecting to be staying at the equivalent of the Hilton & to be honest I'm more worried about the Monarch flight than the hotel. It was the room numbers for the decent rooms that I was after.
I'll be sure to write a new review when I get back.
P.S. If you're there between the 18th Feb & the 5th March please don't drink in the hotel bar, at least not late into the night. I'll buy you a cold Kings at Ice N spice up the road if you promise not to.
P.P.S. The rating average on the review page is 2.8/5, admittedly with the poor reviews are most recent, but it still doesn't seem too bad a rating despite what a lot of people are saying.
Fritz
I know this place always gets mixed reviews but there are some trully appalling ones about this year. I'm booked for two weeks with the wife & my son but I have options on other places, it's just that the Prazeres is ideal for us location wise.
So hopefully someone here has stayed there before and has stayed there this season and can give me a true opinion.
Never had a problem with cleanliness, the apartment on both occasions we stayed were spotless. I wouldnt stay there again, need the quiet life now but undoubtedly it will suit some.
Hope you have a great holiday whether you stay there or not
