Word of advice about the Prazeres - if you don't like your first room - ask to change.
We arrived tired and dirty after the long trip and were shown to a dingy box room - which had the saving grace that it was cool at least as the fan filled most of the ceiling! So after a good night's sleep my boyfriend went to reception and asked to be moved - thank god we did. We loved our new room - much bigger and it got sunlight on the patio too. We were quite far away from the bar etc so we didn't suffer from any noise.
I do think it's pot luck with the Prazeres - we did see the antics of the owner and hear about the disgust of some of the guests - so much so that they checked out the next day. However it didn't directly affect us. He seems to go on 12 hr benders and stay up drinking all night at the Prazeres bar - one morning on the way to the beach he was still there on our way through and he offered to buy us a drink! However he only did this once during our two week stay.
The room was cleaned daily and we had some good times at the bar. Was a great location and I liked the fact there were security guards 24 hrs a day at the complex.
Would we stay there again? If we got a good deal - without a doubt - but we will probably try somewhere new next time.
Oh and make sure you try the Ice and Spice bar which was our "local" - they are lovely in there!
we have used the prazeres for the past three years and been ther five times now if i remember rightly!
obviously we have enjoyed our stays there as we have kept going back.this year we took two friends who had never been to goa before.
the last few reports have been quite poor, the ones before very mixed. after our last visit i am afraid i have to agree with the latest reports.
the place was filthy, the staff and senior management had all changed and the new ones were completely disinterested.raul (the owner) seems to be spending more and more time propping up the bar whilst slavering over young russian women.arguments seem decidedly more regular between both staff and guests.the only saving grace as far as i can see is the location, although there are better located hotels around too.the place is an absolute joke if im honest.
i am so sorry that the hotel has turned out like this, i really am, but as long as it remains in this mans ownership i will never visit there again.
fortunately, the couple who came with us in march are coming with us again in november, this time we are staying at the santana.having spent the last few visits frequenting calamari, we decided to have a look at the hotel on the way home one day.what a breath of fresh air! clean (not indian clean, more like european clean), all of the staff were very friendly and the grounds were immaculate.not to mention its only a minutes walk from the hotel to the beach!
anyway, at least we have a new post to discuss while we wait for the new season!
h.
I have heard the prazeres was going down hill, but you maybe sad to hear that the calamari shack may not be there this coming season due to the sands eroding away, they are looking at pulling down Shiro's the big glass building just along the beach from calamari because of the damage the sea is doing to the beach. I will give you another update shortly when i go up that end of the beach.
Mike
i like calamari, nice staff and very hygenic, im sure there'll be others open along the same stretch if they dont move calamari back towards the dunes a little?
cheers,h.
has anyone got e mail for prazeres hotel candolm
On this page
thankyou phoebe have you stayed at the prazeres is it ok
Good luck, Allan.
Called in for a drink and a look round one of the rooms, nice setting and room wasn't bad either.
This is another one I have as a back up if we can't get in where we want to be, but only thing that puts us off is the walk from there to the beach, bars and restaurants, badly lit road from Candolim crossroads to the hotel (always taxis and tuc-tuc's outside though).
I did stay there, but it's about eight years ago. It was OK, but could be a somewhat noisy at night. Had a room round the pool area (probably why it was a bit noisy). Decor was a bit 70s, but the room (which was more like an apartment) was very spacious and was comfortable. It's not really my cup of tea, since I prefer to not stay in hotels, but for the money I paid I guess it was fine. At that time, I found the staff very helpful.
we had rooms at the back in block h
all the staff were new from the last time we went 6 months before so something had kicked off.nobody knew what they were doing except for the few remaining old staff.
been there twice a year for the last 4 years but never again, there are far better hotels out there.
we looked roung the santana resort on the beach down towards sinquerim, 100% better. spotless rooms and grounds and a nice atmosphere.
if i am correct, although i havent checked, the prazeres has been dropped from the first choice brochures this season?
Much the same story as Paxrax, the main problem with this hotel is the owner, he treats the hotel like his own personal party venue and cares nothing for his paying guests. Its a shame, its a nice hotel, great if you are a youngster who wants trance music blaring out 24 hours a day, not much fun if you are looking for a relaxing fortnight though
We used to stay up ourselves while the wee small hours, drinking and having a laugh, but if you were directly above the bar it must have been a nightmare to sleep.
It was fine for us and the other 27 people on our trip last year, but not for me and the missus this year. Silver Sands is far better for service, cleanliness and location.
If you're just using the Prazeres for a base like a quick change of clothes and back out, or a late drink and bed, its ok.
Not been to Goa for a couple of years, but am looking to book for Feb 2010. Last time I went to Candolim, I stayed at the Phoenix, but I haven't got the budget for that hotel next year!!
I've checked the hotel reviews for Prazeres, and it seems like a mixed bag for this hotel - just wondering if anyone had been this season, and what your thoughts are before I book.
Also does anyone know where the Prazeres is located in Candolim?
Thanks in advance!
Ali
It is located on the road that leads to Nerul so it's just off the main Candolim road but within walking distance.
I have stayed at the Prazeres 3 times in the last 3 years and it has really gone downhill on each visit. First time there really enjoyed it, excellent room and friendly staff, 2nd visit not quite as good but still enjoyable, on the last occasion it was terrible, the reception staff didn't know what they were doing and I waited 3hours to be shown to a room which was a disgrace. I was shown 3 more rooms before I was given one that was acceptable. There were a lot of Russians staying there and they seemed to get preference over the British regarding allocation of the better rooms and other services, the staff were also rude and seemed to treat the place as their personal holiday resort. That will be the last time I stay at the Prazeres, I would not recommend it to anyone.
hi, dont know how much it is for prezares but we have just booked for phoenix park in feb for two weeks, price for 2, travel agent price1820, internet 1674, thomson site.it might be worth paying a little extra. we have also stayed at prezares a few times and in my opinion has gone down big style, we have witnessed awful behaviour from staff towards holiday makers
I'm not after a review, I've stayed here many times, what I'm after are room numbers.
The rooms vary enormously at this hotel & I can't remember what rooms are what but hopefully someone reading can.
I'm travelling with my wife & 3 year old son so one of the large airy apartment type rooms would be good. I know they have these because I stayed in one 5-6 years ago and I think it was one floor down from the top in the same block as the bar etc.
Also does Raul still own/ run this hotel?
