He's decided to stay in resort and find a hotel for the night thanks Shirley.

I still havn't been able to contact Ryanair. It states on there website that they will email you if your flight has been cancelled, and i have had no such email. I havn't had an email back after changing the flights to tomorrow, so he has no way of printing his confirmation off. Does anyone know if he will be able to check in with his documents he should of used to fly on todays flight?

I'm probably at home worrying and he'll be sat round a pool having a beer without a care in the world!!!

I'd suggest that you ask him to get his docs reprinted using any new reference number that Ryanair have given him for the changed flights by visiting an internet café or sweet-talking the hotel reception. I presume he will have to still check in online or risk paying £40/40€ at the airport ... and once he does so, he will have a new sequence number on the boarding pass ...

You can either get an email or text message from the phone number you provided to them. Recently when our flights were cancelled I got an email and our friends (on the same flight) got a text message to the UK mobile they provided at the time of booking.

If you have a flight that has been cancelled, you can log onto 'manage your booking' and put the flight ref number etc and reschedule your booking to another day - no cost to you and if the fare is higher on the reschuled flight you pay nothing more.

We did this a couple of weeks ago on some flights to Spain and the reschuled flight was also cancelled ! - we popped onto a ferry at Dover and then drove to Spain !

I'm just about to book 4 return flights and trying to avoid paying the £40 booking fee . I was going to have all this sorted ready for my next booking and I now see they have changed the goalposts with the electon card fee waiver and I now need a pre-paid mastercard which I dont have .

Long shot I know but does anyone know if there is anywhere I can purchase one instantly now for immediate load and use . I dont want to risk my bargain flight prices by waiting several days for a card. :duh .

Lyn,

There is a thread, link is below, that has lots of good info regarding Prepaid Mastrercards.

Probably need to go halfway down page 3 to get the lastest info, which was prompted by the Electron withdrawal.

lyn,

In answer to your question I got mine from Phones4U - it is an 'Escape' card. I walked into the shop and picked it up - getting it was easy as that !

Net cost £9.99 for the card, there was a bit of admin to get pswds, PIN etc setup - no monthly fees, free loading of money if you go into a Phone4U shop or via interent bank transfer, I have moved money from my HSBC account to the Escape card without a problem and at no cost.

I could use it immediately once admin sorted. Dormancy fee of £1 a month if you dont use it for 90 days. They have annual spending limits.

I have booked several flights since having it and it has saved a few hundred £'s in not paying Ryanairs handling fees of £5 a person per flight.

There are other many cards but I'm happy with the one I got. Thats not to say that there arent others that maybe more appropriate for your use.

Kevin, i've definatly read it but couldn't say where. I've looked at that many different things on there site today. I did eventually get an email from them, saying that the flight was cancelled, but it took it's time coming. It was only about 4 hours before they were due to fly home, and on there website it was showing as cancelled at least four hours earlier.
All being well they will fly home tomorrow....

:pele All done and booked with no charges

It was all very simple . Headed down to phones4u early to get my escape card .Must say they were very helpful and knowledgeable about why I was doing it .Paid the £20 (one off £9.99 charge for the card which lasts 3 years + £10 mandatory top up) . They activated it there and then i added the remainder to give me enough for my flight booking . Came out checked my balance in the machine accross the road . It was all on the card and home I came to book . All done with the hour . I'm very pleased as we have a holiday booked to scotland for Oct half term at a bargain price and I have avoided their £40 credit card charge .

Ok I know the card has cost me £10 but I have saved £30 alone on that booking and the full cost on any subsequent bookings over the next 3 years until the card expires.

Thanks everyone for all your help .

Just check the conditions, some of these cards have a non-use charge if you don't use them for certain periods.

Yes it has a £1 monthly charge Steve if no use within 90 days so I'm going to mark that date on my calender and make a small top up if I havnt used it . I have a small balance left on it so could even buy myself a coffee in 3 months time.

Good thing is you can at least use it in any shop too .

It would have been so much simpler if they had gone for the free option that Lufthansa use - Paypal !! But this isn't intended to make life simpler for a lot of people, it's just to get an obscure method so they can keep the prices used in adverts lower.

Yes and I bet they change the goal post again in the near future Steve. It says here mastercard prepay cards are exempt from handling fees for a limited period so I guess we have to watch this space. http://www.ryanair.com/en/questions/how-can-i-pay-for-my-flights

The limited period will be until a lot of people have them. The reason they do it is because the prices they advertise in the papers etc have to include all the unavoidable extras, like airport charges and government taxes. It doesn't have to include avoidable options like luggage and airport checkin charges. If there was no free method of payment the minimum amount (probably on Delta debit cards) would be an unavoidable cost and have to be included in the advertised price. By having some obscure method like this the booking charge becomes avoidable and doesn't have to be included in the adverts -even though most people will have to pay something! They used to have Electron cards as the free method until early last year but more and more people got one so they changed to pre-paid Mastercard.

I believe a lot of Europeans were also 'creating a fuss' about the Electron card as it is not available in some countries. They had to change it so they could keep the 'avoidable' fees claim.
We too are using the Escape card from phones for U without any problems.
