Hi,
Me and the wife are off to Mumbai and Udaipur this coming autumn. Stopping off at Mumbai for three nights on way out. Thanks to reviews on this site will def stay at Residency Hotel Fort in Mumbai. Would really like to stay at the old hostel I stayed at during my backpacking days! ie The Red Shield Salvation Army Hostel by the Gateway in Colaba. Not sure my wife would like now that we are both in our 60's.
After three nights in Mumbau we are off to spend just under three weeks in Udaipur. Have no real desire to go traipsing around Rajastan etc -- had enough of all that during my backpacking days. Just want to sort of immerse ourselves in the area and culture and , hopefully, make some friends. the only firm bookings of hotels we have made is four nights at the Mountain Ridge just outside Udaipur-- there we can do some walking etc.
The remainder of the time we will stay in Udaipur. Not expensive places either. Guest House type places will do for us. Normally get much more interesting people staying at those type of places from my past experiences.
Have been considering the Nukkad and Dream haven guest houses. If anyone has stayed at these places would appreciate any comments you may have. Also we will do some cookery and art classes to while away our time. Also spend a few days off and on volunteering at the animal aid hospital just outside Udaipur as well.
If anyone has any ideas of places to see in and around Udaipur-- would appreciate and recommendations etc.
Flying out with Jet Airways-- hope they are OK.
regards to all,
Pete
I will look forward to hearing how you get on- its the next place I fancy visiting in India

You can see Lake Palace, Jag Mandir, City Palace,Sahelion Ki Bari, Jagdish Temple, Fateh Sagar,Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandir ,Sajjangarh,Ahar Museum, Chittorgarh, Kumbhalgarh Fort and many more. browse this link for more information about things to see in Udaipur indiantraveldestinations.com/india-destinations-tour/udaipur.html
Yes, thanks for that site. I have done a fair bit of research etc on what to see, do, eat etc etc. I was hoping that maybe someone on this site has actually been there and could offer some 'first hand' tips and suggestions etc.
Looks as though I will have to do that when we get back in late November!
regards,
Pete
