We have booked a standard room which is suitable for 2 adults and 2 children. We fly on the 22nd August 2010 and I am in a dilemma as to ask for an upgrade to a select room, Kids Den or just leave it as it is.
What are peoples views on both rooms please?
The difference in the two types of rooms (kids den and select) is that the select has a walk in wardrobe whereas I believe that the kids den has the actual "kids den" part ie the bunk beds, housed in that part. Both types of room are of a good size - huge really.
Correct me if I'm wrong - just what I was told by another holidaymaker!!
I loved our room - it was lovely, big, nice view and I loved the wardrobe which also gave my daughter that lttle bit of privacy when she wanted to get changed!! :-)
Standard room are pretty large as well so I'm led to believe....I never saw them though!!
I have just read the latest review on a holiday review site and it is very positive about the standard room, but they were in block 10. I am tempted to leave things as they are and if we get there and we aren't too happy I will try and upgrade then.
We had both a Select & Standard rooms last year - booked the same this year. My teenage boys had the Standard room & myself, husband & 7 yr old daughter had the Select. I certainly couldn't have had the standard with my daughter. The boys had a camp bed in their room & to be honest there wasnt much room for much else, let alone a 3rd person. Personal choice really - I just prefer more room.
Hi we came back at the begining of August and were in block 10 with a kids den. I thought this block was best as its attached to the main building where the buffet restaurant and air conditioned bars are. It only takes 2 minutes to walk to your room. Some people prefer block 6 as its in the middle of the complex but to be fair its only a few minutes walk from block 10 to the main pool. Block 10 looks onto the quiet pool so you can use that pool if you don't want to walk. The kids den has a seperate room for the kids (bunk beds in) and has a TV and bean bags in the kids room. Block 14 seems to be the worst block as its the furthest from everything we met a couple who paid £130 to be moved to block 10 and another who requested a move and didn't pay anything, however they had to wait 4 days until there was a room free. The blocks that were nearest the main pool and the beach apparently can be noisy at night as the hotel next door has a beach bar which plays load music into the early hours and the sound carries, this didn't disrupt us as we couldn't hear it in our block. We had a fab time. Any questions just ask.
Hotel rooms are massive, so was our balcony. We were in block 13, a room above the swim up pools. Buffet restaurant had antibacterial hand pumps at entrance, food choice was brilliant, freshley cooked omlettes, fried eggs, pancakes for breakfast and then the choice of fresh bread and rolls and all the buffet food as well, fruit, cold meats, salad etc. Lunch and evening buffets were just as good, plenty choice for everyone. There is also 3 a la carte restaurants, Indian, Chineese, Mediteranian, you can have one visit a week in each of them, you have to book day before. There is also a fish restaurant on the beach, you pay for weight of fish, starter and sweet and all drinks free.
The pools were nice, we stayed at quiet pool because our room was closer to it. Was never too busy in the pool. If you came down after 10 it was hard to find any sun beds. They had a quiz at 12.00 every day at the pool appart from sunday, it was good fun and you got to know people sitting arround you as you had to mark each others answers. They also had french boules at 2 pm behind the pool. The main pool with slides was busy and I think you had to get towels on beds by 7 in the morning.
The Hotel grounds and gardens were lovely and well looked after.
The beach was a short walk down the gardens and had a small pier and a long pier, it was nice and the water was crystal clear.
There was entertainment in amphitheatre in evenings and entertainment hall off the lobby bar.
The hotel was spotless clean, staff were friendly. A top class holiday village.
We had a standard room, it had 2 3/4 beds and 2 single beds and a huge walk in wardrobe which I used to change in. The room was huge compared to rooms I have been in on past holidays, bathroom was large as well, so was balcony.
It is good to hear that you enjoyed your stay in the Holiday Village.
Would you mind adding your review (copy & paste is fine) to the reviews of the hotel http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/reviews/egypt/sinai-penninsula-and-red-sea/sharm-el-sheikh/holiday-village-red-sea/

Not long now till we go, 6 more sleeps Can anybody please tell me if they have a tv room showing the english premier league football games? Last time we were in Egypt we went to the Coral Sea Resort and they charged £1 english to watch the games.
Hi There is a sports bar in the hotel which has Sky and will show the match. You can change english money at reception, we were there for 2 week and used mostly english.
dont it work out dearer if u use english money tho
We tipped £1 coins or 10 Egyption pounds which works out a little less. You can haggle a bit more on price if you pay in English because the locals get a better exchange rate than tourists.
do u have to tip them all the time then
No some people left a tip at the end of the holiday but we tipped bar staff £1-2 a day and we got drinks brought over day and night obviously if they are very busy you can't expect them to keep bringing drinks over. the staff work 14 hours its the same staff am/pm they work really hard. You find if you have a laugh with them they get to know you, they are all really good hardworking people they don't expect tips but I didn't mind giving an odd pound here and there.
ok better get some pound coins ready to take with me then
we told them we weren't travelling out of Sharm only to discover after waiting in queue for 40mins we could of went straight to passport control!
ok so ive no need to queue for a visa either then good tip that
re the football and the sports bar, the sports bar opens at 6pm and is free. however if you want to watch a match prior to 6pm them will open the sports bar but everyone has to pay £1 a person (drinks are still all inclusive though). You can usually find premiership matches on TV in your room as well, although with Egyptian commentary.
Hello, we went in May and booked a standard room for 2 adults and 2 children. We were put in block 14, it was awful, far too small for 4 people. They put 2 camp beds either side of the double bed but we could hardly walk around the room. Also the wardrobe space was only really big enough for 2 people. The receptionist said I should have booked a family room but I pointed out to him the First Choice brochure clearly states a standard room will sleep 4 people!! He kindly moved us to block 11 to another standard room and it was huge!! Walk in wardrobe, sea and pool view!! We were thrilled. I honestly think the rooms in block 14 are just double rooms and they try it on!! Some people just put up with it but I'm so glad that I complained, we would have been falling over one another literally!!!! Any questions feel free to ask!!
We've just got back from the HV this morning, and it was the best family holiday we've ever had. We had a standard family room in block 10 and it was huge. This block is right by the quiet pool and also the shops, main bars, reception and buffet restaurant. It's also quite close to the pharmacy! I'll post a full review when I get time, but the only real negative I can find is that the 'poo in the pool brigade' were at it big time. The main pool was closed 8 times during the 2 weeks, but it didn't affect us as much as it might've done as we were often doing other things at the time.
Any questions, please ask.
