Do you mean Antinal. If so that is something you buy in Egypt and I would doubt if you would get it in Goa.

Last time I was in Goa I suffered, my husband went to the local chemist, got some tablets and I was ok to go out for dinner at night. Usually the stuff you buy locally is the best!i

;) Just go in any chemist and ask for yellow bombs :D same as Imodium but fraction of the price!

I've been travelling to Goa for about 17 years and have only once been so unwell that I did not feel like leaving the room, got some tablets locally and fine after 24 hrs. Remember not all tummy problems are related to poor food, the change in diet and especially dehydration can cause more problems. I make sure I drink about 3 litres of water a day, that's is water and not other more enjoyable liquids :cheers

Been going to Goa for 11 years. The best advice we always give is to wash your hands or use the liquid cleaners, before you eat anything. Everyone shakes your hand in Goa and "things" get passed around. We find if we do that, never a problem! Enjoy your holiday! :sun2

Good reply from jaajaa with many blaming the last place they ate, a build up of spicy food over a few days may give you problems, have a break and eat non-spicy for a change. The only other thing to mention with water intake is how cold it is - ice cold (although very refreshing) can cause stomach cramps.
Hand cleaners is another good suggestion from goangirl, use them whenever possible.
Common sense is needed in any country in the world.

Usually get a touch of tummy problems for day or 2, nothing bad though. I blame change of food, climate etc. Only once had a day confined to room! Ask at pharmacy for "vomitstop" same as we get in here under name of Motilium ... fantastic stuff. Strangely I am the one who takes all precaustions and the only one that gets affected. Can boast that on last trip had no problems whatsoever. Hoping for the same this time :tup

Twice in the last 3 years I have suffered with acute gastroenteritis whilst there and had to get the doc out early in the morning. I would not wish the illness on anyone :(
I know that the last time wsa from a salad on Morjim beach. Never believe it when they say the salad is washed in bottle water, its a lie haha! I was less than an hour from being in hospital hooked up to a drip due to dehydration. Took a good few days to feel 100% again.

Not sure what the cause of the first time was.

Doctors are good though, having an injection in each bum cheek is not good though :rofl

I think the chemists in Goa are so good though, they will be able to help with anything.

And as Goangirl says, wash your hands!!!! :D

I have been going to Goa since 1993. The only time I have been I'll (touches wood) is twice when I ate hotel buffets. Luke warm food hanging around for hours is a explosion waiting to happen. I really do think that often stomach upsets are not always bad food but too much sun and not enough non alcoholic fluid.

in hospital hooked up to a drip due to dehydration......... but it was still the salad at fault and not that you never took rehydration salts before going out in the sun on a beach or after drinking even a modest amount of alcohol the night before

Alcohol often affects bowel movements, in the normal course, the small and large intestines reabsorb salt and water, but alcohol interferes with this process often causing diarrhoea.

A packet of Walyte costs 15 Rps put it in a litre bottle of water and share it at breakfast, it is not a cure for the diuretic effects of alcohol or to much sun but every little bit helps

dont forget, sometimes you can pick "things" up in the swimming pools its not always down to the food :(

hubby was VERY bad a couple of years ago as were a few people that were at the same hotel as us and they had all been in the pool in the afternoon, he had been fine up until then

I drank water all the time I was at the beach, hardly spent any time actually in the sun as it was too hot, and I had not drank the night before. I felt ill after the salad, added to that the doctor telling me that yes it was gastroentoritis and asking what i had eaten that day. The reason I was so dehydrated and nearly ended up in hospital was due to the fact that I has been sick so many times that there were no fluid left in my body.

Not really sure where your comment comes from really. Do you know me?

I don't know if I know you ??? but I do know it takes a lot longer then less than an hour to get yourself dehydrated to the point of needing to be hooked up to a drip due to dehydration. so I pointed out how very easy it is to get dehydrated out here with a day time temperature around 40 degrees and even if only drinking a modest amount of alcohol

Drinking water only helps to prevent dehydration but it also flushes the body of essential salts and minerals that have to be replaced, that's why the rehydration salts are so important, it is possible to kill yourself by drinking just water thinking you are rehydrating yourself

I am sorry if by using your experience as an example of why rehydration salts are so important upset you but I was only trying to help prevent similar happening to someone else

I didn't say it took me less than an hour to get in that state, I said I was less than an hour from being in hospital, as in if we had not got the doctor out I would have ended up in hospital.

Apologies for the sort of off topicness everyone x

Google Bimuno.

Skeptical to say the least but no problems last year so will be using it again.

Is it true the glycerin in the beer can upset stomachs?

I have seen people extract this from the beer before drinking it.

I'm not keen on taking immodium or similar drugs-they're just like a plug but don't treat the cause (sorry to be so graphic!). I had to do it last year as the dreaded trots struck on the day of my return flight - not a pleasant journey! :yikes

If the worst happens, I always starve myself but drink litres of water with rehydration salts. If you're really hungry - crisps are okay because they have loads of salt.
