Flight Only / Airline and Airports

I've bit the bullet and changed my May hol to November at a cost of £100 in the end. I'm ok with this rather than all the wondering and second guessing regarding contingency plans etc. funny that the are waiting until all ful final balances are paid before they are announced?

deana,

Given Thomson Airways don't know what is going on at the moment, they can't announce anything. They won't know when they are getting the aircraft until Boeing tells them. It's nothing to do with waiting for full balances, there are thousands more travelling besides you that have already paid their balance in full! When the airline know what they are doing, whether it's operating 787-8's or using 767's to cover, they'll let people know. From what I'm hearing, plans are afoot to cover for the first few months. Glad you got your plans sorted though.

If Thomson have to use a 767 instead of a 787 they could use a 757 to top up the capacity. Of course they would need to take out a few rows of seats to make it more bearable.

Darren, you poo pooed my comments about the late deliveries of the 787s. It looks as if I am sadly right. I would like you to look on youtube and look at the poo poo Blackadder clip. You will then see that this poo pooing can cause untold disasters!!!!!!!!!

Qman,

Not really. Where are they going to get 2 or 3 757-200's from at the busiest time of the year? The 757 doesn't have the range to cover most of the long haul programme without technical stops plus they need to be ETOPS rated (not all are), have available crews and i'm sure passengers wouldn't want the extra flight time this would involved either. It would also be very costly to impliment. My information is ex-TOM 767's will be deployed, but all is still up in the air.

No one poo poooed anyones comments. All I said was we need to wait until there is official information from a reliable source before commenting on the length of any delay. Speculation rarely proves to be accurate. While a contigency is beeing looked at and the information I'm getting from Thomson Airways suggests there will be a delay to the introduction of the 787, there is still nothing official from Boeing or the airline so no one knows at this stage, and certainly nothing to suggest the delay you initially suggested. It's just a waiting game until things are announced. I don't see it as a major problem anyway. Thomson will make arrangements to get everyone on their holidays. It's not about who is right or wrong, it's about passing on reliable information to benefit members.

You are right as usual, but I am a pessimist it helps prevent disappointments
However only one 757 has not got ETOPS, so they could use them to top up flights. It's lucky that they haven't swapped all the 757s to 737s, they would have been useless for this task.

My poo poo comments were a joke. I enjoyed watching the Blackadder clip, "it could cause the loss of the airline" would be a modern way to look at the catastrophic problems of the doomed (Dad's Army) Nightmareliner.

Darren I know you can't confirm but if they are going to use the 767 Ex Thomsonfly these are not as comfortable as the Ex FCA is that about the size of it?

I do hope things get sorted out with the dreamliner after all the years of delay!

Wonder if this will have an affect on my flights to Turkey this summer? We are supposed to be on a SH config. 767 (TOM 512& 437) and have paid for extra legroom seats. If this is downgraded, I presume there are less extra space seats on the 757 than the 767? Would we get a refund if we couldn't get them or would it be classed as not their fault.
Will just have to wait and see I suppose... going to have massive implications all down the line if some of the SH 767's are already nearly full/ got more bookings than the 757 can handle! and then where are the extra 757's going to come from!!?? :que

pallan,

I would wait and see what happens over the next couple of months before worrying about changes of aircraft.

Thanks Darren.
However I've paid extra to be out of the whole scenario but will not be compensated for it. However the £10 per person that Thomson are supposed to be offering to my original flight is a joke. The price was over £90 each extra each when booking for the Dreamliner last year (that's not including the premium fee which has also gone up by £150 each!) I just think its wrong that compensation will be paid by Boeing but most Thomson cistomers will be short changed.

Pallen,

With the new 757 configuration of 221, there is more extra space seats in these than the 767s -any config.

Hi

I am just wondering does anyone know if the Short Haul config 767's have seat back IFE? Been following this forum and im suppose to fly on the dreamliner in May.

I don't mind them reducing the legroom on the Thomson 767's but I would be very angry if they did not have seatback IFE?

Thanks

The difference in the Premium Club price is due to the upgraded seat product, similar but not exactly the same as that of LOT Airlines - http://www.airliners.net/photo/LOT---Polish/Boeing-787-8-Dreamliner/2226407/L/&sid=54651428dae69e014d19b2b203f84067

Hi I am new to this site and would appreciate your help please. I am flying to Montego Bay on 23 March from Gatwick and there are twelve of us and we have paid to assign seats. Are you able to advise the best seats to book? Would you have any idea which airplane it is at present?

Thanks very much.

shirley h,

CWL-SSH-CWL (TOM466/7) are operated by Boeing 737-800. There's no IFE onboard these aircraft. You'll find extensive aircraft information on our what Aircraft? guide (link below).

Fly21,

MAN-MAH-MAN (TOM2514/5) should be operated by Boeing 767-304/ER (short haul), subject to confirmation after May. You'll find extensive aircraft information on our What Aircraft? guide (link below).

LGW-MBJ-LGW (TOM024/5) are operated by former First Choice Boeing 767-300/ER. You'll find extensive aircraft information on our What Aircraft? guide (link below) including aircraft and cabin photos, seat plans and seat photos as well as lots of other useful inormation. There are no 'best' seats, it's personal preference. All seats offer the same basic facilities so it just depends what you like, eg window, isle or centre, front middle or back. I'll be in Negril from 18th March, see you their!!
