I'm flying to Goa from Manchester on 7 April 2013. I've never flown with BA before so am a bit apprehensive about sorting seat out on line (but sure i'll cope). However i'm told quite clearly that i can only check in one case of 23kgs. On previous flights with other companys i've taken my luggage in two seperate cases, making it easier to handle, since i am travelling alone. Off to look for a case now!!

But you also have a Hand luggage allowance of up to 23 kg too , case size restrictions apply and you must be able to lift it yourself , so if you previously took 23 kg between 2 cases and say 7 to 10 kg as hand luggage , that's a total of 30/ 35 kg , just put 15 to 17.5 in each case ??? , you can also purchase an extra case for the hold from £34 upwards if you wanted both cases put into the hold

Wendy , you could always try phoning their contact centre to see if you can book ex leg room seats , they do withhold exit seats which have more legroom too except for gold status members , one of the annoying bits I find is not being able to book seats in row 15 because they blank out the bassinet seats , but usually they are still available at online check in .

Thanks andy66. I need to check my luggage allowance once again. I thought my hand luggage limit was 7kgs but if its more then as you say, i can distribute the weight.

Hi tingaling , your hand luggage can be up to a maximum of 23 kg , and you have to be able to lift it yourself into the overhead lockers , the size of the case must not exceed 56x45x25 cm , which is a reasonable size and would comfortably hold around 15 kg of normal luggage , you can also take a handbag or laptop bag in addition to this too. Add to this the 23 kg allowed for hold luggage which has larger case dimensions restrictions of 90x75x43 cm and you should be able to distribute the weight to suit you .
Online checkin is easy , but they can always sort you out at the airport if you have any problems , I've usually selected my seat online which everyone can do 24 hours before departure or you can checkin at the airport , all you need is your reference number which is usually 6 characters of numbers and letters .

Hi Wendy,
Not sure if there's any different rules that apply for short haul flights with BA, but we managed to select & pay for exit row seats for both our flights in May to Berlin. The call centre is really helpful, but only open Monday to Saturday.

We are flying out to India on 4th April and returning on 18th April. Can anyone tell me if they are 777-200 or 777-300. I've also noticed from BA.com that the in flight entertainment is much more limited on the return flight, any idea why?

Thanks,

Jim

jim98,

BA143/198 should be operated by Boeing 777-300.

Thanks Darren,
Any ideas on the entertainment conundrum?

After years of charter flights we have our first Schedule flight (Las Vegas) at the end of the month. If I'm reading this thread correctly we may have a massive 23k of hand luggage allowance on top of our hold luggage. Does this apply to World Traveller class.
TIA

Yes 23kg in WT is correct. You are also allowed to carry one handbag or laptop in addition to the 23kg hand luggage.

Yes Judith is correct.

Remember to check in online as close to 24 hours before departure so that you can choose your seats.

Are you flying from LHR or LGW?

The food is fine on the way out, but not great on the way back so maybe pack some snacks. I don't know what the food outlets are like at the new T3 at McCarran, but the ones in T2 were dire.

There are several threads about Vegas in the America forum

Thanks Judith & Luci,

Also thanks for the extra info about the flight, which leads me onto my next questions :-)

Were out of LHR on BA275 but are then going on to New York with AA (AA1936). Return is From Newark (BA188).

Looking forward to trying some different aircraft for a change, hope they live up to my expectation (especially the 747).

Will there be a choice of food on the BA flights or set menu, what sort of drinks selection can we expect?

I don't think there is any food on the LAS - JFK leg so will stock up before we get to the airport.

Happy days with 23kg hand luggage or maybe not, I suppose that means the OH will want to buy more.

Many thanks

It's a few years since I flew BA Longhaul but there was usually a choice of two main meals. Drinks available were wine, beer, soft drinks, water, tea and coffee.
I always bought a few snacks on the airport to take with me as the meals provided by BA were often quite small, but do eat anything that you have with you as you are not allowed to take many items of food into the USA.

There is usually a choice between pasta or chicken

AA are a great airline, at least on the LHR-LAS route as they were constantly coming round with drinks. Snack boxes are usually available, alcohol is chargeable, but soft and hot drinks were free. Check their website in case things have changed. It is cashless so you will need a credit card to pay for all onboard purchases, including drinks.

We have never had our hand baggage weighed or measured on BA flights. However you would need to have something extremely heavy to get anywhere near 23kgs in a cabin size case. We were struggling to stay within the hold baggage allowance a couple of trips ago so put all the heavy stuff in the cabin baggage. It weighed 13kgs, but even that was a struggle to get up and into the overhead locker.

There are 6 pairs of 2 seats at the back of the plane, which would save you sharing with a random third person, but you would be very lucky to get those as people with status normally book them in advance. That said, we managed to get them last year by checking in 24 hours before departure. This year I reserved them on booking as we are Silver BA Executive Club members.

Does anyone know if you have time in the airport at Singapore on BA15/16 LHR-SIN-SYD and vice versa. It's on the ground for just over an hour.
Reply
You will disembark in SIN go straight to the transit lounge and then its literally back on the aircraft, you will be off the aircraft for about 20-25mins.

Hi Helen , as L10 said you will get off the plane to have a short wait in the transit lounge , most likely because they will be re fuelling and loading on more cases etc . We were on a two stop flight recently but the next airport was only an hours flight onwards , they were on the ground for only 40 mins max so the passengers stayed on board just waiting for the new passengers to board .
Shame really as you could easily happily spend at least a couple of hours in SIN .

I was wondering about it in terms of getting coffee and a keyring.

The stops are actually 1hr 45 and 1 hr 20.
