Hi Heather, antibiotics should kick in soon, got bronchitus(?spelling) you look great in your cossie, if I posted a pic of myself in mine the worlds computers would crash xxx
Look lovely in my cozzie - you need testing girl!! Only put it in for a giggle, hope nobody recognises me with the mask and snorkel
I've just been looking at the new underwater picture album and was wondering what type of camera was used. Do people get good results just using the disposabel type and are any better than others?
These are the cameras I use (I'm more in to underwater videography than photography) and you can get lots of info onthe BSAC website:

hi, until last year, when my husband bought an olympus camera with underwater housing (costing around £300) i took all my underwater photos with the boots underwater camera's which were usually on offer buy 2 get one free - costed around £30 for 3 - i had really good results with these cameras. the last twice we have been to sharm we have used the olympus and the photos are ok - just the same in my opinion as the disposable camera - great for snorkelling i the disposable cameras are waterproof to 10m so unless you are diving they are great i have some excellent photos. have a happy holiday.
cam49. we have an underwater camera that we got from the gadget shop a couple of years ago. its just an ordinary camera with a waterproof housing. its was fine when we took it to center parcs but the pictures that we got from sharm were very disappointing. i am going to invest in a "proper" digital underwater camera blow the expense. pentax have just bought out one. its obviously only good for snorkeling and not diving but it doesn't look too bad. it looks just like an ordinary camera. i would love to have the one that everest uses but this looks a bit too advanced for me (and hubby won't let me spend tooo much money )
I've tried the single use cameras, Cam, and found them to be totally useless! As we don't deep-dive, just snorkel, I bought my wife a Sony DSC-U60 digital camera which is only safe to about 2 metres but takes medium quality pictures at that level. It cost around £170, but at least it is a perfectly adequate digital for normal land use as well.
So, in essence, the more you pay, the better your results, as Darren says. Its probably down to how many times a year you go on holiday and how many of those holidays involve the opportunity to take good underwater shots.
The housing was expensive but its a one of purchase and the results speak for themself (had one of my clips broadcast!). Compared to other marine housings, its balance and performance is first class (you get what you pay for!). This is a usefull website for underwater cameras:
Already found that site looking for a housing for my Sony digital. £170 seems to be the price, can't justify that, even with 3/4 holidays a year! I'll just let my wife snap away with hers and enhance them with Photoshop!
Thank you all very much for the info, I'll have to have a word with my hubby and see what he wants to do, like you, Elaine, I would probably opt for the boots disposable which sounds adequate, but my hubby would probably prefer something a bit better. The camera that you have, Carrot, sounds like it does the job and is not too expensive and, like you say, is alright for other use as well.
Have just seen Darrens reply and checked out a price on his recommended site for a housing unit for my canon digital camera. It was £140 and like, carrot, don't know whether we could justify that. It's ok if you're really into photography as a hobby but for me it's just holiday snaps.
I bought my housing over the internet from the US, you pay in dollars there what you pay in pounds here.
camera and housing which took turtle video and photos was £149 complete
We're getting more interested now, £149 seems alright for that. What model is that?
olympus camedia c 310 zoom memory card 128mb plus case sorry was £140 with postage
All I can say it go for it, you won't regret it. It may seem expensive at the time but once you've baught the camera / housing, especially if its a digital system, you'll have many hours of enjoyment snorkelling with it and have nothing to pay after that apart from booking the holiday and maybe an o-ring every so often. They are also great for use at home as well in wet weather, snow etc. These are a few examples:
