THIS WILL BE ADVISED TO YOU AT THE TIME OF THE BOOKING."

The only cost I was advised about was my supplement. At NO time was I advised of any other cost, actual or otherwise.

19. No cancellations or amendments are possible after confirmation of booking.

Clause 19 of the Terms and conditions makes NO mention of any charges

Thank you for the clarification Craig, it helps!

I hope your headache gets better very soon.

Thanks Magsy for pointing out my mistake on my thread. I think i need a proof reader! Now you all know why i go quiet every so often.

Thanks Dave for keeping us up to date with what is going on. Any chance of claiming anything from your bus driver?

David,

While the insurance company should cover your costs, less any excess, (provided you didn't know about the problem at the time of booking), I think that, in the circumstances, you ought to be allowed another date - especially if they have messed you about in the past.

I would raise the issue either through the DE or with MKM's directors (or even Mr Koch). The way things are going, I don't see how they can stick rigidly to the rules.

Magsy - 'missed connections' is one of the most important things to check for in a travel insurance (including if the local bus/train fails to turn up and you miss the plane).

Tony - belated happy birthday. I hope you aren't too old now to keep us chuckling!

Oh dear, I really do have to read every single line don't I Cruiser - in fact we all do!

Now of course I wonder what would happen if the plane was delayed and I missed the boat!
Reply
Magsy,

If the plane was delayed and you missed the boat, what happens depends on the airline and the attitude of the cruise company.

You'd normally be entitled to EU compensation rates (depending on length of delay) and you ought to be allowed on to the next sailing if the company is customer-friendly. Otherwise, you'll have to stay put and claim expenses off the insurance: don't forget that some home insurances cover travel delay - and may give better payouts.

Hi Magsy,

I don't want to contemplate that Magsy!!!

You would find me rolling around on the floor with my feet in the air shouting "NO NO NO NO "

Then the men in white suits would arrive to take me away in the van with the square wheels.

I sent a long message about foreign exchange but it seems not to have arrived at HT!

Has anyone seen it?

Sorry to hear you're having to cancel David. Hope you get better soon.

Claim for everything, phone calls, domestic flight etc. Nothing to lose and you just might get something. I would certainly try to get them to change your dates......Tell them it will be good PR as you'll publicise it on HT.

Interesting bit about clause 19 is they were able to amend my booking. Ryanair changed the flight times, so instead of going a day early, now coming back a day late!

Good bit of news is Stephen got his confirmation from R*** today.

Peter A: As always, thank you for very useful information - where do I get an E111 form? Pleased Stephen has his confirmation and I expect he is too!

Cruiser, please search the ether for your posting re currency, I need all the help I can get! Checked with the Halifax today, their Euro rate is 1.40 buying. Went to M & S to check theirs, my local branch don't do currency! May check with the Post Office Tomorrow. High Street Travel Agent were offering £1.41 for a minimum of £500 exchanged.

High Magsy, you can get the E111 form from any post office.

Hi Magsy,

Pick up an E111 form at the post office.
This will only be valid until the end of the year as another EU regulation takes effect next year.
I think you can have the new card sent automatically if you indicate this when you fill out the E111 form.

It's almost time for Colin & Chris to return to the UK and for Alii to start her cruise. I am eagerly awaiting their reports of life on the ocean wave, in the sunnier climes.

Thanks Dizzy and Andy, and everyone!
I plan to go to the Post Office tomorrow so I will ask there. Ours is just a small village PO so I expect I will have to go further afield! Woe is me!

Andy, Don't worry, we can get a train in Venice and pick up the cruise in Bari!

I am still finding it hard to come to grips with Davids problem in not being able to reschedule his cruise! :bhead

Mike C, What an angel, I can download the form and have it all ready to go! Thank you to everyone for E111 information. I was under the misappredelusion that you didn't need it if you had insurance! Doh!

Luci - thanks for info re Nationwide debit card. I haven't got an account there, so I guess that rules me out.

Dave - I posted a reply on the 16/5 thread, but since catching up with this one I thought I should also tell you that I now think you have a much stronger case for phoning the DE and asking for another date. Craig mentioned claiming from the bus company - have you thought of that? If it was the driver's fault (e.g. if he can't claim he only swerved into you to avoid a child who ran out in front of his wheels), then your insurance company may claim off them anyway.

Allisu - I was quoted a cancellation cost, £600.

Magsy - I don't think you need an E111 if you have insurance. Anyhow, you get private treatment on your insurance, whereas I believe the E111 only entitles you to NHS-type insurance. I had a minor accident in Italy a few years ago, and was treated brilliantly - in and out of hospital within an hour. They took a photocopy of my insurance policy document and that was the last I heard of it - the insurers paid them directly. I didn't have an E111 as I was informed that I didn't need one.

Hi Fay, That what I thought too but Peter A posted this:

I have decided to get one just in case!

PS I am still trying to plough my way through my insurance policy!
