Hello peeps! just thought i would give a little warning to anyone thinking of staying at a hotel called the Pirineos Pelegri in Figueres. I travel about quite a bit in my car abroad, we tend to book hotels on the net from a really good hotel booking service, and drive down through france spain portugal, spain, french rivera then back to the UK. always had really good hotels at cheap prices including meals, and have done this hundreds of times, so usually know where is good and not so good!. Got really caught out this time! We booked 4 nights in Roses and it was superb, 4 star for 2 star prices, then on to Pineda de Mar for 4 nights, again great value, then had booked a hotel in Girona that was advertised as being in the city centre, was only booked there for one night before moving on to Barcelona and south.
Arrived in Girona, had trouble finding the road, so called into another hotel for directions and help, only to be told that this hotel(pirineos pelegri) did not exist in Girona! after the receptionist checked her hotels book, it was discovered that the hotel was in fact 35kms up the motorway at Figures! we had already been up that way. Headed back there as we had booked it, complained to the manager that his hotel was advertised as being in Girona, and he said he did that to get bookings!! blatant as you like!! Attitude was awful, and the hotel was the pits! room was nothing like we expected, dark, noisy and filthy. meals were included but when we orderd our food it was inedible, and to top that the waiter actually made lewd comments towards my wife.
I told the manager that i wasnt happy and he said"well you can always leave! we have already received the money for the booking, so if we were not happy, we should complain to the website operator as he couldnt care less!
I could not believe what i was hearing, and we collected our bags and left.
I have written to the hotel booking agents i used to book this "nightmare hotel"and it truly fits the "faulty towers" image! so will see what happens!
SO BEWARE AND DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!
We are currently on the Costa de la Luz at present, NO WATER PROBLEMS HERE!
Hasta la vista amigo's!
As a side note, I hope you found Figures to be a lovely city. We have been there ourselves for the day and found the place lovely. The Dali museum is there, which is well worth the trip alone. It's fantastic.
I specifically wanted to stay in Girona to show my wife the roman ruins and old city, but because we had to be further down the coast we didnt get chance to stay in girona this time! might call in there on the way back up through spain in August.
I have reported the hotel to the website, who incidendtaly have been very good in past bookings, and they are looking into it, if nothing is done and its not removed from the website, then i will report it to the governing body that seals with it all because as you say, its totally disgraceful. The cheek of the manager and staff were unbelievable, rude and couldnt really care less as they already had the money!.
As you say, if someone had flown there and were stuck with it, it would have been a nightmare for them!
Thank god all catalans are not like these few! catalonia is a lovely place and generally better people than the normal spanish in other areas, but this hotel and its staff really take the biscuit!!!.
They had a cat that was on a balcony that couldnt get out of the sun, and we told them it was trapped out on the balcony in the room next to the one they gave us, and they didnt seem to care about it, just before we left, i climbed across the balcony from ours and let the cat in, but if thats how they treat a "pet" then people(and especially paying guests) do not matter.
WILL LET YOU KNOW HOW IT PROGRESSES IF YOU LIKE! BEST WISHES
REGARDS
LAURIE
Is Girona worth a visit for the day? I haven't had my driving licence for long enough to hire a car abroad, so would be getting the train. What do you recommend? When I have had my licence long enough (only had it since February), and am confident enough, we'll be doing the same as you and driving through France/Spain etc.
I just had a thought (hindsight is not always a good thing!), you should have asked for the hotels complaints book. It's the law in Spain that all hotels and restaurants have them, and have to show them to customers. If they refuse to produce it, you can contact the local police. Who are apparantly quite tight on this.
I know it's too late now though!
Good luck! Let us know how you get on.
