Swimming pools are probably too warm to swim in eh?

is the sea actually warm to swim in may sound stupif but have never been abroad in peek times, only october sort of time.

We have just got back from Protaras and the sea was intially cold when you first got in but as soon as you went under the water it felt a lot warmer.

But i take it, that its def not as cold as swimming the sea in the uk at this sort of time, lol

God no! I wouldn't even set foot in the sea in this country! It just seems chilly because its sooooo hot out of it.The sand is really hot so when you put your feet in the sea it seems cold.Its very refreshing...

Keels hit the nail on the head. The sea temp at this time of year is about 82 degrees (in old money) about 28 centigrade, but it just feels cold b/c the air is so hot.

so its hardly threatening to cause a cold is it lol

Yes Pool water is 30c today and has been for three weeks or more, the sea will depend on currents and conditions, it has been rough this week so the sea feels cooler (much nicer) but calm condition and depending on what beach you use this also will feel warm, Coral Bay at the far end is notouiriosly warm now and gets warmer towards October and sometimes even beyond that date, as I said it does depend on weather and sea conditions..

so the water is going to be really nice at the time i go end of july?

It's nice now if you like swimming in bath water...yuk!

We are thinking of trying Cyprus next year, after years of Turkey. Prices really shot up in Turkey this year, so I was wondering if anyone could give me a rough guide on prices for a beer, or a decent meal in Protoras or Nissi Beach (as its a toss up between these two resorts at the moment).

Morning kazi! A price of lager i n Protaras ranges from £1.00cyp upto around £2.50, depending on where you go. We tend to look at the prices before we go in-the prices are usually displayed outsise. As for "eating out" when we went last year, they ranged from bar meals from around £3.00cyp, upto restaurant prices starting from around £5cyp on average-like i said before, depends where you go. Wine was around £5.00-£7.oocyp per bottle in a restaurant. We found Pernera, just ouside Protaras had some lovely restaurants to eat in, nice meals and good prices. A lot of the best places to eat are generally found away from Protaras main "strip". Only had one meal in Ayia Napa, 2adults and 2children with a drink each (dinnertime) and this came to £20cyp. We are going back to Protaras next July and expect prices to have gone up-thats a fact of life. We tend to base our spending money on English prices while we are in Cyprus-and more often than not, we do find it cheaper....... Protaras is lovely.

Compared to Turkey......even with price rises you mentioned, you will find Cyprus expensive.

It's always been that little bit more to get there and once you're in resort the prices are more to eat & drink out than say Turkey and the Greek Islands.

My best advice is along the lines of Cromwell's.......expect to pay very little difference between the UK & Cyprus especially for drinks.....although food can be less. I always allow enough spending money as if I was at home and going out every night to eat & drink.

However having said that Cyprus is very geared up for tourism and most of the time the experience tends to be a little better than Turkey who really are still a fledgling country with regard to mass tourism.

It also really depends on whether you go self catering too and use the facilities.....it doesn't have to be a very expensive holiday if you budget well.

Spot on Sapphire... we budget on prices in England, which we have told our inlaws to do when they come over with us next year. That way, you are not suprised at their prices-although to be honest, we generally find it cheaper than England, especially eating out in restaurants..... We save up hard all year to enjoy our holiday, so when it does arrive, we have saved up all the spending money we need, and are prepared to enjoy every minute of our holiday, no matter what the prices are........we are on holiday, after all!

i didnt think it was too bad, as long as you drink the alcohol that is brewed other there. meals arent that expensive compared to england.

I noticed this year that prices have risen slightly, possibly linked to the EU.
However it's still a great holiday destination, your on your hols sod the prices, worry about it when you get home. Enjoy!!!

Now just got to find a nice apartment in the middle of everything - looks like Protoras is favourite so far!

I would not call £1 for a pint and £3 TO £3.50 for a meal expensive. We have just returned from Ayia Napa and found it much cheaper than when we were in Icmeler in June.

HHHmmmmm interesting... we have just returned from Icmeler and found the meals to be very reasonably priced.... although Turkey has gone up... we still thought it was alot cheaper than prices we were payin in Protaras last year.... Off to Agia Napa in 5 weeks.... will compare the prices there... But... In Agia Napa in Oct anyway they tend to half the prices again as they are gettin ready to shut up shop and they all want your custom.. so will prob find it cheap there anyway We shall see... Will keep you updated...
