thanks carol. i'll tell him you were asking for him next time i'm there. i was there this year and bought my two daughters rings from him. i thought they were very cheap i was just seeking confirmation from someone else that i had got a good buy as i had not bought gold anywhere else in turkey, so had nothing to compare with.
My daughter has recently broken up from her fiance and has asked me to take her engagement ring (9 diamonds) and a 1/3 carat solitaire ring he gave her for xmas to Icmeler with me to see if any jeweller could change/modify or combine them to make her something different. She never thought about this when she came with us in May. After deciding she could no longer wear them and deciding to try selling them at the weekend she was amazed to be offered next to nothing for one and told no we have enough solitaires thank you for the other. Rather than practically giving them away I,d like to have them changed for her. Any suggestions of where this could be done and a rough price would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Mege in Altinkum are good value too
Going to Icmeler September 5th and hoping to buy a nice piece of jewellery whilst there. Can anybody tell me if it is acceptable to barter in jewellery shops or would they take offence - don't want to make a fool of myself (well no more than usual anyway)!! Many thanks.
They would be more offended if you didnt barter. Iv'e bought a few pieces of jewellery in marmaris and usually end up paying half the asking price or less. The quality is always good. So enjoy your shopping.

The way to buy jewellery in Turkey, especially gold is by wieght, not by design, so if you see something that you like ask the price and also ask how much gold is per gram. then go into other shops and ask again how much per gram, necklaces, bracelets should be around the same price,( per gram ) but expect to pay more for the rings etc with stones in.
Hope this helps

We buy some jewellery each holiday for my wife, but can't help feeling that they (the Turks) are better at bartering than I am! I never seem to get much of a bargain.
Some of the jewlers in Olu Deniz also have stores in Hisoranu and the Hisoranu prices were much cheaper for exactly the same items.
we went in may and ibought my wife a ring from a jewllers called narsis, which is actually recommended by first choice reps.the ring was very unusual and we bartered a good price on it ,so we thought.2 days after purchasing it one of the stones fell out and we retutned it to the shop where they did actually repair it,but on returning home the stone fell out again,i have tried contacting the company on various occasions to see if we could send the ring to them ,they have still not replied and i have been forced to sell the ring as gold because no jeweller will touch it,because of its bad workmanship.please be carefull when you are out there and please dont use this company for any purchases. jon
We got lots of jewellery from Safirs in the square in Icmeler, including our engagement rings this year. Hal and his wife are so nice, and their daughters are charming.
Recommendations from the reps is not always such a good thing - they are often getting a kick back. best recomendations are from people who have bought jewellery in resort before
Hello, this is my first time at all o this so hope i dont make a complete hash,,,,, anyway, just got back from Olu and my hubby got himself a chain for 270 pounds, bartered down of course, so far ok, at the same time going on the kindness and generosity of the chap in the shop I asked how much to have my engagement ring re tipped, (a tip was missing) he took it away and said that they would replace the whole "crown" and this would be 25 pounds, Ok, i said. On collecting the ring 2 days later i had a good look (worried that they would replace the high quality diamond with a cubic z) (not at all suspicious am I ?) although it looked shiny and less worn round the band i am convinced that they didnt replace the whole crown, but just polished it and replaced the one tip, as this one was standing proud from the other ones which looked identically as flat as when i gave it to them! i was so confused as i am not an expert in jewellery but i know my own ring! I paid gracefully and said thankyou even though i wanted to say "but you havent blooming touched it" so how do you prove their expertise against your ignorance!!! I was more angry at myself for not opening my mouth! Also he said that my stone was excellent, very good quality but a shop in marmaris last year said it was ok and a bit "cloudy" who do you believe??? bought a ring from this shop and darent get it valued as im sure the diamonds in it aint the same ones as when i tried it on!!! I know, Im a right moaner, reassurance most welcome!!
hi everyone , last year in altinkum my husband bought me a gold bracelet , it caught my eye at the beginning of the holiday so a few days before we came home we went to the shop to buy it , the shop owner was very friendly but seemed reluctant to knock anything off the price , in the end he knocked £5 off . we are going back to altinkum in 2 weeks and i would like to buy some more jewellery can anyone tell me how far you can haggle for your gold - my friends got a much better deal
