Sorry to rake this subject up from the depths of the past, but I need some advice on jewellery buying please.

I am due to go to Hisaronu in May with my boyfriend. I notice a couple of recommendations for jewellers on here for there so thanks for that!

My question really is that we only have a budget of £500 and want to buy an engagement ring there (hurrah, my mother will be pleased!)

Is that a realistic price out there do you think, or are we living in a dream world?

Any advice gratefull received! :D

Thanks Briar! I have a lovely picture of one I'd like so I'll take that and fingers crossed. Boyfriend will be pleased as he's saved for ages to even afford £500 - bless him!

Maybe I'll have a fantastic ring to show you all when I get back :D

We got wedding rings made in Turkey 4 years they cost us £650 for both of them, a jewellers here was selling ones similiar ones for £800 each

The only problem I had was when I got home the ring was too big as my
fingers swelled with the heat, took it back the next year and they resized if for me for nothing.

You'll get yourself a fantastic ring for £500 have fun chosing one and good luck on your engagement

Have a look in Fethiye near the roundabout at the corner of the harbour, then walk down the two streets on either side of the shop. Some nice stuff can be found down there.

My wife got some nice stuff down there.

just read that tear jerker briar that is very bad the way they dealt with you and are glad you are letting people know of the shops that do have bad practices but would like to add we can't tar all with the same brush
just be careful and ask around before parting with your hard earned cash

Hi Peeps,

My husband purchased a beautiful diamond ring for me whilst we were staying in Olu Deniz. It was a wonderful design, different but very elegant.
I agree with other members let the shop assistants help you in designing your own engagement ring Haymans and you will be without a doubt 'chuffed'.

Good luck

PS PM me if you need the name of the shop that we went to in Olu Deniz, as it is only down the mountain from where you are staying.

Kind regards

Thanks for all the advice. I'm rubbish at haggling so let's hope I'm brave enough to get what I want at a reasonable price!

Sorry briar didn't mean it to sound as though i didn't care because i know you will never be able to live that moment again and feel totally gutted for you both

haymans quite sure you will get a good ring well within your budget. dont be scared to haggle ,it is expected ,first off ask for the very best price then haggle from there, and do not at any time tell them your willing to spend £500.,good luck and congratulations bluepeter no1

To say I am slightly heavier than when I got married is an understatement, the truth is I'm about a third heavier hence I was no longer able to remove my wedding or engagment ring, While in Icmeler last September I had them cut off and resized, the workmanship was excellent, the pattern was matched on my wedding band and you can't tell that it has been done.

I am a happy chappy and all for £25 for the two rings, Samuels in the UK wanted £60 for each.

When I go on holiday I leave my good rings at home as my fingers swell.I have a few very convincing Zircon rings and I couldnt believe what happened this week in Side.I wore 2 rings bought from Argos. They are silver, one has 7 small zircons in a row,the other 6 with a 1 carat size zircon in the centre. As I walked around Side and was asked if I wanted to buy a ring I just said no thanks and flashed my rings.3 jewellers asked me if they could take a photo so they could copy the design and one asked me to come into the shop to show his boss. The "boss" got his eye glass out and proceded to sing the praises of these wonderful diamond rings! He then said I must have paid between £4,000 and £5000.I was gobsmacked and had to tell him I paid the grand sum of £14.99 at Argos! He said they were a very good cut and then tried to sell me a real one.My husband bought a new wedding ring at our friends shop and when I showed him my rings he also was amazed at the quality of the large "diamond" until he got out a small hand held machine and placed it on the stone. He soon realised it wasnt real.So ladies if you dont want to be pestered get a good zircon ring and tell them you have a big enough diamond.

Hi, can anyone recommend a good jeweller in Marmaris who would copy a design from a photograph? Also, i've got quite a heavy 9ct gold chain which I don't like now - would they use that gold or has it got to be 18ct?

Thanks, Polly

I dont know one in Maramris but I would look for one that had their own goldsmith on the premises that way you get to see what their making for you every day. They should be able to melt your chain and use is I've taken lots of scrap gold and had it made into different things.

I use one in Icmeler called Kurt I find them very good

We had our wedding rings made a few years ago by Vogue Jewellery in Marmaris. We chose Vouge as they were a large company and we felt secure in using a large, established Jewllers.

The rings are stunning, Yellow and White Gold spinning rings, with our names engraved and 2 diamonds on each ring,,, total cost was £380.

Went back last year and they stretched them both for free. ( we have put on a few pounds since we had them made)

We were so pleased with the service we went back next day and asked them if they could make some 'body jewllery' for us in 14K Gold, as you can only get Piercing rings in 9K gold in UK.

We had 2 D shaped Nipple rings and 2 round rings (eyebrow and nose) made. All 4 with ball closers. they had to have our original titanium Rings to copy the designs, and because we didn't want our piercings/holes to heal they made them within 24 hours :!:

So 'hear hear' for Vogue Jewellery in Marmaris.... We were also informed that Vogue Jewellery now had an outlet in England.... Think it was Brighton ??? not sure,,, will have to check. But we were told any problems and we could use the UK branch.

a little bit of knowledge is the best bet ..look up advice on the internet .we have bought jewelry in turkey before and have been pleased till we went to goa ,,there is diamonds out there now that show up as diamonds when there not ,these are called moissan diamonds and need to be tested on a moissan tester otherwise you may end up with a worthless diamond ,dont believe every thing they tell you ,do the research first ,these testers are not expensive and all jewlers should have one ,dont be afraid to ask if theve got nothing to hide they will gladly test them for you on both testers ,we did our research and it payed off, £240 paid in goa for 2 rings and valued with british insurance company for nearly £3000 , both excellent diamonds . we found once we had bought the both testers we had no hassle over price as they know you know what youre looking for , a diamond glass is the best place to start ,we are not experts ,we just wanted quality, only trouble we have is our friends  testing every shop and diamond they see ,have fun choosing :P

:D Hello

Last year in Marmaris i bought quite a lot of jewerley.

I bought my hubby a copy Rolex watching i thought it was lovely :D

My hubby dont like it at all

He has never worn it :?

I was wondering if i took it back when i go in July do you think they would let me exchange it for something else? :)

I know its a big request due to them having new stock in this year

I paid quite a bit off money for it and its a shame to just let it sit in the box.

Also i bought my daughter a gold pendant while i was there same jewelers

It was for xmas i bought it in Oct but didnt give it to her till Xmas day on Boxing day all off the diamonds fell out off it

If i took it back with me this year do you think they will fix it for me i paid £120 for the pendant alone

Any advice will be gratefull :D
