I read alot of reviews about MyTravel staff in Goa, in the fact that they try and overcharge you for your baggage and because there is no scales for you to see how heavy the bags are you have to pay!

Anyone had any of this recently?

If they've no scales how can they determine the bags are overweight and by how much overweight to calculate the true rate.

The captain loads fuel based upon passenger numbers (averaged weight), baggage and cargo. How does he accurately work that one out if they cannot weigh the damn bags.

Don't think they'd catch me with that one.

If they absolutely refuse to load your bag unless you pay extra, get them to put a security tag all the way around the bag. Upon arrival at UK, go to a MyTravel check in desk, get them to weigh your baggage and reclaim the money (you will have to have been given a receipt) from MyTravel with the threat of legal action otherwise.

Can you believe the tricks some companies pull ?

The check in scales at Dabolim are the same as at any other airport, you can clearly see the digital display of the weight of your luggage, also immediatley on entering theairport your luggage is scanned and security sealed It is essentil the pilot gets the lugggage load factor right as it's one of the determining factors in whether the flight can go nonstop or have to refuel in Barhain, or somewhere else in the Gulf. Seems as if someone is trying to talk away being over th baggage allowance Alan

You may find others replying to this. It had nothing to do with the captain knowing the weight it had to do with the check in people doing us out of money.

Seems there are alot of people who have had to pay for the luxury of coming home with their baggage.

And no a receipt has not been offered.

I just wanted to know if it is still happening now, maybe things have changed due to the amount of complaints.

Hi gramps, we have just flown home with jet airways on monday, we checked our luggage in at dabolim straight through to heathrow via bombay no problem, just inform the check in staff you have an onward flight and you will get your boarding cards for the onward flight too. The flight with jet airways was very good, its the first time we have used jet airways.

I still cant understand the getting overchrged for luggage at Dabolim by Mytravel The weight of your bag is there for you to see at check in, the scales are airport scales not Mytravels and are used by all the airlines. as their accuracy is essential for the safety of all flight calculations we can assume they are accurate. The weight allowance is known by the passenger, if your bag is x kgs. over the limit, that ammount times Mytravels excess baggage is what you pay You should know what that charge is before you even leave the U.K. I still contend that the main complaints are from people who dont want to pay the excess and blame someone else for their own stupidity for overloading theirsuitcase. I got charged excess baggage on Feb 2005 with MyTravel, but as gramps said, the scales are on full view and a receipt was given to me as I paid...
No complaints from here. It really only our fault at the end of the day.

Agree Mytravel scales are fully visible and some people were overweight and asked to pay last year on our flight home. I do understand that it is a bit of a money maker but I guess they are within their rights to charge if we go really over the top - one girl told me it must have been the 7 bottles of honeybee in her suitcase that put her over the allowance so........

if you have any concerns about weight why not get some fishing scales they only cost about £5 even less on e-bay if your lucky!i have some upto 22kg light enough to take with you as well

Are MYtravel and First Choice not the same company?

I know the Gold section didn't offer any more leg room.

I'm 6'3"

I did my back in due to a faulty seat! My sciatica flared up! They weren't interested in my complaints!!!! Very angry I was and painful! Luckily I got sorted out by a pal who is a great Ayurvedic masseur (bona fide) not a beach tout.

I absolutely hate flying in these conditions.

im goin to goa in 4 days!! yepee!! but does anyone know if the flight from birmingham is direct or not?? where flying with airtours if that helps but i was really looking forward to stop in barhain as wanted to stock up on the duty free :D

sorry can`t really help but ask when you check in and if not stock up at the DFS at the airport before you leave if you need to, Don`t forget you can buy almost all in Goa for much less - Have a nice time :P

You can check how long the flight is, this will determine whether it is direct or not. The flight to Goa is approx 10 hours. As for duty free although Bharain is a lot cheaper you are entitled to buy duty free in Birmingham airport as you are flying outside of the EU, but be careful if you are buying ciggies not to have too many as when you land in Goa and if you have over 400, they will try to charge you the duty, if this happens stand you ground and make them an offer, I have heard through other sources that this is usually accepted.

Have a good trip.
