barnio, it's my daughter who is excited about the beach party i'm one of those weird people who dont like sand (her words not mine). You'll all know who I am - the one with the wellies on!

I must say that my 2 boys were not overly excited each night

they were 11 and 13 and if it wasn't for their Gameboys and Top Trumps i think they would have been a nightmare...they couldn't wait to go home, which is not like them at all...they even got a bit fed up during the day towards the end...

They didn't join in the 'kids Clubs' cos they like me felt a bit itimidated by the behaviour of some of the other guests...were quite shocked at times by what they saw and heard and didn't want any part of it

But hey that was last year...maybe this year will be different, who knows :!:

I know wild horses wouldn't drag me back there but I do hope you all have a good time who are going.

Where do you stand if you've booked The Palace ?

Do you still have the right to a full refund even though its The Tropical thats shut ?

We are booked into The Palace September 25th and I've got a sneaky feeling that with it being low season The Tropical will be shut then aswell.
I've decided that I'd rather cancell the holiday than go with half of it open and book The Kos Aqua Beach Club (depending on reviews).

IMO opinion alex I would go with your instinct and cancel because you just won't find out or know what FC decide to do with this village.

I will cancel providing First Choice will let me cancel free of charge and refund my deposit.
If I had to pay for cancellation charges it would be £520 and I'm not willing to let that go.

I suppose if I phoned they would only fob me off with the same old balony they have told others :twisted:

I think because I'm booked for The Palace they might try the whole "Its not you hotel" trick.

Alex, been there last year and got the T shirt, when the Tropical hadn't been finished we asked to cancel but was given all the 56 days and upgrade nonsence as well. That holiday company will hide behind anything they can, they are the worst in my experience of package holidays (25 years of using agents) and I will never use them again.

Alex, contact them and ask. I was told by trading standards that they were breaking their booking conditions as they were not giving me the holiday they sold me, ie only half a holiday village, doesn't matter if it wasn't my hotel or not. They sold me a holiday where I could have use of the full facilities and therefore they had to offer me the chance to cancel at a full refund.

If they say no tell them you've spoken to Trading Standards and this is what they said. If they don't budge then phone Trading Standards and they'll take on your case. You also have a right to go to ABTA with this once you have put your complaint in writing to them and given them 28 days to respond.

to Alex,I have changed my holiday i was staying at the palace (after being changed from the tropical by fc)I called to say I did not want to go as I am not getting What was advertised they changed me over free of charge but told me I would have to pay any extra if the holiday was more expensive.I changed there and then to the holiday village Majorca it was £600 more but they said they would knock off £233 for a free child place (which had all gone)just be firm with them.Hope this helps.

Paula, that's good news and I agree with you totally. I just feel sorry for all the people who are going who haven't been on this site and are totally unaware of the "changes" to their holiday plans AND will only find out the true extent when they arrive. They will probably have a good time but if it was me and my family (2 kids) looking over the Tropical with it's slides I would be completely peed off seeing it closed.

To the best of my knowledge, its wine, beer/lager, local spirits and soft drinks (not including fresh fruit juice).

watery gin, watery vodka and brandy. Not sure if there was whisky but to be honest I drank the beer because although I like the odd vodka, there never seemed to be anything in the vodka and lemonade.

All the drinks seemed to taste very weak last year we thought they were watered down. We had vodka and coke and got 2 straight vodkas to mix with 1 coke and still it wasn't very strong.

i was there in last 2 weeks in october in th pp we all loved it and there were 7 of us and did not think drinks were watered down in october .and were in the pp most of the time as in 90% time was good times .yes its away from the shops and barrs but we new that there is still lot going on at the pp . yes at times it did get boring yous going will have good time if you go with that in mind
