Just back from 2 weeks in Dubrovnik and a rented car from economycarrentals.
Everything was fine, but I was a bit upset to find out that I had to pay about 90 Euro extra to get the green insurance card without which I would have been unable to enter Hercegovina.
it sounds really nice and a good family choice as sol hotels have lots going on- however as croatia is listed on ht along side bulgaria i wondered if they are similar- as i really have no fancy to go to bulgaria,
ie horror stories of prostitutes, dancing bears etc so don't want to go if its going to be anything like that. any comments would be welcome.
In September the weather in Trogir is very nice -not too hot, usually no rain ,without too many tourists.
My advice for your holidays is: from Trogir you can plan several excursions.
a) you must visit Split capital of Dalmatia / old Diocletian Palace / 28 km from Trogir
b)Waterfalls Krka and town Sibenik- only about 2 h from Trogir
c) Solin or Salona-old Greek town only few km in front of Split
d)Fortress Klis also near Split
e)Dubrovnik by your own car is about 3 h with the coastal motorway- you can visit Omis,Makarska they are beautiful litlle towns on that way.
If you need more advices you can ask me because I'm living in Trogir.
Hope it will be helpful for you...
thanks very much
Reading other message boards taxis are certainly not a cheaper option.
Economy car rentals do a late opening at the airport maybe cheaper to higher from then rather than a taxi
Just reading through some old threads as we have just booked Slovenia and Croatia for June 2007! I note you stayed in Rovinj and obviously enjoyed it. Love the pic by the way.
We have booked into the Hotel Eden in Rovinj, after reading so many good reports and the Kotnik in Kranjska Gora.
Rovinj looks and souns a beautiful place. Did you by any chance take the Hydrofoil to Venice?
Would love to hear about your holiday.
Thanks

We're hoping to go on a trip to Venice too, so we'll let you know how we got on, once we're back.
Acorncup, thank you. Thay would be brilliant.
I hope someone can help me.
We are entertaining going to Croatia this year, to the Island of Brac?
I got a price for appartment, flights etc from Ireland to Split then transfer to Brac.
We are two adults, one three year old and one baby age 6m at time of travel.
Has anyone been?
Any verdicts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Would you recommend car hire?
We are thinking of going in September as it is good for us holiday wise but also I figure it won't be too hot.
Any advice more than welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Tobi
I have just been told by a friend about croatia need to know is there anything there to do ...ok i have 3 children 2 boys 11 and 9 and a little girl 3 is there anywhere people would suggest or is it stick top turkey or spain any help appreciated also prioces would be nice as it would be nice if cheap
You will find children's activities in the hotels in Spain or Turkey (if you choose carefully) and lots of varied entertainment in the hotels and in the localities, plus much more child-friendly food and things to see and do.
Croatia is much more for 'mature' folk and couples, looking for interesting sites and quiet evenings. (There are discos and clubs but 'tame' and expensive for drinks compared with Spain and Turkey.)
If you live in Germany, I would suggest you look at Alltours, Neckermann and Oger Tours brochures where there is a lot of information and many good hotels too.
It really depends what you want from your holiday. The Adriatic Sea is beautifully clean and clear, BUT nearly every beach is pebbly and/or reached by steps from concrete platforms. I suspect your kids would prefer a sandy beach. There are swings and slides etc, but not very obvious - more likely to be found in residential areas rather than in tourist resorts. Prices are not cheap, and alcohol costs about the same as in the UK and Eire. Supermarkets have lots of goods, but not necessarily the same brands as at home eg for formula milk and nappies. Incidentally the milk seems very thin compared to what we are used to and is often boiled and then cooled, even if it comes out of a tetrapack. Brac does not have a great deal of nightlife when compared with Spain, and although the Croatians love children they are a bit reserved because they tended to keep themselves to themselves under the previous Tito regime.
Weather wise, still hot, so take sun cream and cover up clothing for the children, and perhaps try a siesta in the hottest part of the day.
You might prefer to wait a few years until the children are older, and go to a more child-friendly resort with a sandy beach and paddling pool and play parks such as in Spain, Italy or Portugal amongst others. Just my opinion.
I agree with most of what Alsacienne but if you really want to go to Croatia the area of Biograd has lovely sandy beaches and lots of families stay there as we were there last year as a couple touring Croatia and Biograd was the only place that we saw a lot of families and there seemed a lot to do. Just type in Biograd in Google and there is a lot of sites about it.
I've heard Porec is quite busy during the season and after all kids only need others of their own age to have a good time. We were thinking of going there as you can fly from Bristol to Rijeka with Easyjet but have now decided to go somewhere else.
Many thanks for your reply and information.
It is exactly what I wanted, esp re pebbly beaches and playgrounds.
You have children?
We are now thinking of returning to Gozo and although I would love to go to Croatia myself, we will probably wait a few more years.
Thanks so much again.
The Croatian people seem to like the British, are very friendly towards you and will bend over backwards to help.
We found most staff had a good understanding of English.
The resort is good if you like watersports (windsurfing, kite-boarding etc). The water is very safe for kids as long as they have waterproof shoes on (around £5 in resort) as due to the rocky beach there are some sea urchins where it gets more rocky.
Food is reasonably priced and you get large servings. Hotel food was excellent. Hotel also has a small playground. They even showed every world cup match on a projection screen.
Just want to go back now!
does anyone have any informatoin on croatia please really fancy going but cant find out much about it thanks pam
