Are the plugs exactly the same as in France and Spain? As I already have a French plugged hairdryer and straightner. Should I bring them? I am hoping to fianlly get some use out of them

plugs in our hotel

can i just say that our european spain etc, plugs fitted, as long as they also have a whole, for the hotel sockets had the same prong coming out of theirs, we took 3 adaptors one did not have whole in it, so would not fit.

Excellent advice debs. The first time that we went to Tunisia for the winter, I took several adapters - not only for our personal things, but also for the electric gifts that we took for friends over there. We travelled from Tunis, so on arriving at the hotel in Mahdia 3 hours later, we were desperate for a drink -- yes, you guessed it - not one of the adapters had the hole in!

It was only after trying to ram the thing in the rather dilapidated socket for what seemed like hours, that closer inspection revealed the missing orifice! A 5 dinars tip rectified the situation! A timely warning from Debs :lol:

Sorry, folks, completely confused. Are we talking round hole three pin plug adaptors or three square holed ones, or two round hole or two square hole. Actually, think am confusing myself even more!!!

Can you clarify and advise as to where we can buy the correct type of adapator?

a two round hole plug usually for spain, etc, but the ones in tunisia in our hotel had to have a hole in because their sockets had a round bar coming out of theirs. we took three plugs with us and one of them did not have a hole in it. Hope this is a bit clearer. :lol:

All the times I've been there this was the first time I've needed an adaptor with a hole in and guess what - I didn't have one. :roll:

Luckilly the hotel room had one of the other type of socket as well so I made do with that.

You know Aslemma - this was what happened to us. All the previous times that we had been to Tunisia - staying all over the place - we never had any problem with our plugs. The first time we went to stay for the winter - ha! ho! - I tried my best to push that **** :evil:

plug into that socket and just couldn't understand what was going wrong. It was only when Frank saw me throw myself on the floor, drumming my feet and screaming with frustration, that he investigated. "What do you expect, there's no hole" he said. I will not risk being banned by HT by telling you what I said, but you can guess. :no

Take notice of the advice from debsp! :wink:

going to tunisa on sunday,does anybody know what travel adaptor we will need,
also do we have to take english notes to change over there,

You need the ordinary 2-pin continental adaptor in Tunisia.

You can change English notes or Euros in Tunisia, either at the bank or at most hotels. ATMs are also plentiful in most tourist areas so you can use your credit or debit cards (Visa or Mastercard). You can also use travellers cheques. There is nothing to be gained by using dollar travellers cheques. The rate of exchange is set by the government so it will be the same everywhere, therefore you don't need to shop around.
You may like to print off the currency converter 'cheat sheet' just before you go. I always take the £/dinar and also the £/euro one, as prices in the duty free are in euros.

Hi Alison - as Aslemma says, you need the 2 pin adapter and make sure that it has a small hole near the pins, a many of the Tunisian power sockets have a protruding pin which goes into your adapter. Enjoy your holiday. Jenny x

Aslemma, Jenny, I was in Boots on Saturday looking for an adaptor but it was confusing as there were only ones UK-EUROPE and UK-USA,FAR EAST AND AUSTRALIA??

Can you advise where you got yours? or do you think I could purchase one once I get there?

Hi Jilly, you need the normal 2 pin continental (presumably EU) adapter - 2 round pins in the middle with a small hole a little above them. You can't miss them if you see them - if you know what I mean!I would advise that you buy them here, as the ones in Tunisia are not particularly easy to find. The 'pound' shops etc often have them. Jenny x

Electric Adaptors

Can anyone please tell me what electric adaptors do I need use in Tunisia (UK - Tunisia)
Is it 2 pin round? 2 pin flat? etc.
