Hi Nick.
I beleive if you post your questions on http://www.cypriothomes.co.uk

This site covers the Easter side mainly the area you are interested in.

you will get lots of feed back on this subject. personally our electric was connected as we moved in, but in some cases generators are the norm.
Lots of members on the board are still on generators 6 months down the line.

You can join and post all you questions , you will find lots of help from the members on the site.

Hope this helps.

A few points on your problem, first this is not unusual, second be careful, as insurance companied do not normally cover you while using hooked up electricity, and if this causes a fire you may not be covered, if they put you on a generator make sure it is quiet and they pay for the fuel, if your electricity is hooked up to next doors also make sure your bill is being paid by the developer, but my advice is first check out you insurance cover!!

Hi Nick
You also have the problem of appliances tripping out if you overload,
There are plenty of owners who have been in there properties for months and have not got proper supplies, The main problem is if the Electricity has to run the cables in and sometimes the developer will not apply for the connection until the roads have been laid.

Like I say get on the Eastern site and you might find someone with the same developer and the same problem

We have meet 4 other couples who bought from the same developer as us from the sites, it was a god send when we needed advice.

As far as I'm aware it's the same as the rest of Cyprus, 230volts and the same plugs as here; there is no need to change any of your plugs. Hope this helps. :) (son and daughter in-law live in Episcopi)

the voltage is indeed 230v 50hz HOWEVER the plugs vary in hotels aimed at the brits they are most often bsi 3 pin BUT in hotels aimed at the mainland european visitor they are usualy euro 2 pin and earth i have met up with both types and therefore always carry an addaptor(lets face it they are cheep enough if you buy them in the UK.

Last time I went to cyprus I am sure we didn't need any adaptors for our electrical bits - am I wrong?

You are correct, you will not need any adaptors.

we had both in our hotel - the table lamps etc., were different but there were a number of sockets where we could use our own plugs. I did notice in all the supermarkets they sell adaptors - so you shouldn't get caught out unless you get there in the middle of the night and want to do your hair!!

I have been to Paphos 22 times now over the last 18 years and I usually stay in small SC apartments but a few times in Hotels. I have only syed in the same place 3 times.

I have never seen any sockets that are no the normal British 3 pin design.
BUT - this may be different in the North side.

We weren't sure what would be there (should have asked on here ! Doh ! ) so we bought a couple of multi travel adapters just in case. The only thing we took that needed plugging in was the Video Camera and when we got there we found out two things.. One everywhere seemed to have the standard British 13 amp sockets,... and Two the camera has a special plug that looks like a normal British one but opens up to reveal a Euro 2 pin type .,... DOH ! double DOH and Drat....

Askey many new electrical items sold here in CY have only a two pin plug fitted, they are trying to change this with legislation as in the UK, the way we fit these will make your hair stand on end literally, we push the earth pin in with whatever is handy and push the two pin plug into the socket...fun in the sun..
