I totally agree with you. My dad said to me from a very young age there is no point going abroad unless you are going to try their local food.

Now whenever im away i remember what he said to me. I will try any food once if i dont like it at least i can say i tryed.

Even my little girl who was 8 when we went to france tried snails and frog legs and yes she did like them.

When away do try the local food you may just surprise yourselfs and like it!

Yep your right. One of the great pleasures about travelling is trying different things, you can make mistakes but more often than not you have positive experiences. My kids when they were younger would try anything we would and I always remember my son complaining about the kids menu at a restaurant "Dad why do they think kids only want to eat Burger and chips or Nuggets and chips? " chip off the old block my boy is no pun intended. We went to a Polynesian (sp?) in Napa back in April and my son wanted the Tom Yam Thai soup to which the waiter was a bit taken aback "thats very spicy are you sure?" "of course" he replied and lapped it up.

I agree totally.

Yes people go abroad for the weather but they shouldn't moan that the local food is not to their liking. Try it, if you don't like it fine.

Lots of these people happily eat indian, chinese, pizza here in Britain. Are these foods british? NO

If not happy go find a McDonalds (American!!)

Snap my daughter was the same, in fact she hates burgers. She's 12 now so she eats off adult menus. (and tries new things)

By the way shouldn't you be in Cardiff?

Come on kilgoreck we're trying to keep them out of Cardiff . Only joking. :D

I agree with those thoughts.

The first evening I am in Protaras in 15 days time I will be heading to my favourite restaurant for a kleftico'

I can't believe the queues at Nc Donalds when I go past it in the evenings.

Got to be honest I will be gutted when Wembley opens again . Been to the Millenium for all but one of Man Utd's trips and had a great time in Cardiff: Station, pubs etc 5 minutes away from ground hard to beat it. Don't know why they renovated Sam's bar it looks exactly the same!

Personally i'll be happy when Wembley is finally up and running.

The building I work in is right next to the Millenium satadium and is a real pain in the rear end when working on match days.

I was due to work today but I booked a days leave as there is no way I want to be in town with 30,000 Swansea fans there.

one of the things that has always annoyed me are the usual questions i see
1) where can i get decent English food/is there a mc Donald's etc
2) where can i buy cyder/ proper English beer etc
3) where can i watch xyz team on sky t/v

my most hated complaints
1) the food was allfull (this usually means no chips or processed food)
2) the drinks were terrible/watered down (they are not usually its just brands taste different to the UK)
3) the television could only get ABC stations (what do you expect its their country)
4) the hotel defiantly was not 1/2/4/5 star etc(tour operators re grade property to their own specification which usually bares no reflection on official tourist board grades

my reply to all who would say any of the above GO to blackpool/ brighton/clacton and dont bother to go abroad if you do not wish to sample the delights of another country

rant over
my own experience and opinion

I totally agree with your rant Brian.

It's all part of the experience.

You almost get the impression some people are more than happy to find something to complain about especially when they can compare something unfavorably with the UK  . Like you said go to bl**dy Blackpool then. Think you should get a list of 50 questions before you are allowed a passport and if you don't give the right answers you don't get it!

It's a pity that "fish and chip shop in Napa" thread didn't get carried on there was an interesting debate going on there about the same thing

Daughter is there with her Dad, Hubby should have been there but someone dropped out of a trip to Newcastle at the last minute so he's watching it in a pub up there.
I have the radio on and checking on BBC website!!

2-1 to us at half-time!

OOPS :offtop

how annoying must it be for the locals to hear us moaning about the food - we go to their country to experience their way of life (well thats what i like to think), to enjoy their food and their hospitality and all some people do is moan! what on earth do they bother going for?????? the sun - well, like the above said, they should stay at home and hope for a sunny day in clacton.!

just over 2 weeks for me and i cant wait to have a greek salad and a kleftico - with music playing in the background and them lovely hot evenings where its too hot to do anything but just sit and watch as the locals go about their business.

who on earth would want to holiday in clacton?

:D ............. We love Cyprus.......... what more do I have to say  :love2

We LOVE the top end of Blackpool in October for the lights - sand, sea, seagulls and 'me' fish 'n chips, hotdogs and donuts ---------

We also love Cyprus / Greece for the food, the Greek entertainment, the Greek dancing etc etc ---- even though the drainage isn't so good, the water not as reliant, the breakfasts not GB style (horror) --- and the food very healthy!

And we love Italy for all that Italy offers - the list is endless

In most cases the rooms aren't what we'd find in the UK but they are the rooms and decor we'd find in Greece, Cyprus or Italy! Why don't people read up on where they are going and just enjoy the break. I bet they don't crave the British weather ---------

Thank God that everywhere isn't typically British ---

Like you I cringe!

(Don't knock Blackpool though --- the folk who go love it and enjoy their holiday -------)

Anyway, off to Italy this year and can't wait for the real Italien cuisine, basic rooms and lively locals --- etc etc etc.

How much sense can you get in one thread the amount of complaints ive heard over the years , the biggest one is normally the appartments , now i agree they should be up to a certain standard but alot of people expect champagne for beer money , ive heard people complaining about the state of their tourist class appartment on a holiday theyve only paid £150 for , there was no telly , hairdryer etc , lol

*edit please do not post in phone text Briar
