There is nothing you have to have for Egypt. Just advised, and good advice it may be. None of the jabs that come with a certificate yo uneed to show at immigration.
Best is to see the doc asap - take his advice and then all go enjoy your holiday.
My wife. my 12year old son and myself are due to go to Sharm El Sheikh on the 13th August. We have asked our GP whether we need jabs and he has referred us to a travel medical centre where we have made an appointment for the 24th July, the earliest possible date. Our GP wasn't certain whether we would be given any injections at this appointment. If not, then time would be running out to get the injections in time. What I would like to know is what would the risks be of not having the injections if time runs out? Is there any other medication that we could take as a precautionary means?
Decided to go for a last minute holiday at the end of August hopefully. Egypt is coming up a lot but i am pretty sure you need injections. Last time i had a lecture from a nurse about injections when i went for them 3 or 4 weeks before flying to the Dominican Republic, that was again a last minute break so i am a bit scared to ask for advice. So is four weeks too late for injections. Were mainly planning on staying in the resort somewhere llike Taba or Sharm....
I had an apppointment with a Travel Nurse at the local University on Monday and she advised that you should approach a holiday in Egypt in the same way you would Spain or Greece, be careful with the water, salads, shellfish, etc. She recommends the injections generally and that there was nothing that we needed specifically for Egypt.
We've travelled to Spain and Greece over the years without considering injections (probably due to ignorance) so we're going to take the same precautions that we normally do when on holiday. The Nurses advice was a relief as we also had booked a late deal.
Enjoy your holiday.

As has been said many times before, NO inoculations are compulsary, just advised.
When we went this year and last, i had malaria as well, i didnt want to take any chances , none in the bum either, and didnt cost a penny.
Personally i've always kept my vaccinations up to date for years and years, but i'm aware that a lot of people these days dont bother, or even just "don't know". Surely, as most people can obtain the "jabs" for nothing, it must be worth being safe and not sorry? ESPECIALLY when kids are involved!
we are thinking of going last minute to egypt with a little aged 4 now i have heard injections are not compulsory but if we decide to go how long before do we need to get them. we are thinking of going october half term which I know is only two and a bit weeks away would we still have time to get them.
At least if you get the shots now and follow up with the boosters you'll be covered for several years to come.
Best to go see your GP asap.

Following on from Lardylegs post on another thread
I can't be bothered to check, but is there actually someone called Lardylegs or are you on about PSH?
I have the typhoid ect for my holiday to Sharm in April this year. I passed out about four hours after the jab and felt wierd and displaced for around 4 days after. I am due to have the booster next week but am apprehensive due to last time. Anyone else had a reaction like this? If so, did you ahve the same problem when you had your booster?
Maybe people react differently to vacinations!!!!
To be honest since then I've never been vaccinated
Just had an idea give The School of Tropical Medicine a ring {0151 708 9393] They'll be able to tell you if that is a normal reaction or not----and whether you're likely to react the same way again

It would appear that you should take medical advice before having a further dose of vaccine if it has caused you discomfort before.
We have just had our jabs 4 days ago and when I asked about the booster the practice nurse told me that the latest medical thinking is that you don't always have to automatically get the booster anymore.
What we have to do is go back in approx a year and get our blood checked to test something called titers and this will determine if we require the booster, but it is apparently now found that very often you have immunity to the diseases after the first injection and therefore don't need the booster.
It would be worth discussing this with your doctor / practice nurse before you get your booster especially after your reaction to the first injection.

thanks for the advice guys, i am due to go back this thursday for my booster but not going now. i spoke to my nurse last week when i had my flu jab and she thinks i am allergic to something in the injection (never!) but saying that, i had a bad reaction to my flu jab last week (which i have never had before), my arm swelled up and had a bright red rash, apparently this could be due to an intolerance to eggs, but i have been alright before when i have had them so why this time i dont know!! I think i will just cut my arm off next time! Thanks again for all your advice and helful links.
seen some posts as to regards people having jabs- is this a nessesity as my misses is not too kean when i just mentioned it.i had polio/thypium v1/hepatitas/tetanus 10 years ago (for goa) is it a must please??
I don't know what your travel insurance would do if you fell ill after refusing the jabs, they may hold you responsible and invalidate the cover.
If you had the jabs 10 years ago they need doing again - for some boosters may be adequate, others will ideally need a new course of treatment.
It really isn't a big deal - better safe than sorry.
BTW - you will find more info and other threads on this topic if you use the search option at the top of the webpage.
Thanks Alan have merged it Briar
Got a question for all you Egypt travellers - my partner and I have booked a 2 week break in Sharm-el-Sheik in June this year. We were wondering, do you have to get vaccinations??? I have read up on various sites vaccinations that they recommend but does anybody actually get them???
Any direction on this would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Christine
