They are recommended, not compulsary.
Most people get them done I would think (I have)
Prevention is better than cure, so they say.
Have read a few postings now regarding jabs and seems you are right, down to choice but most people seem to get them. Will be in touch with GP for more info.
We don't have to bother with the doctor. We just saw the nurse at the practice, she did them. Costs nothing.
Even better
Myself, hubby and kids going to nurse for jabs today. Hubby very scared but i'm wandering now if we're going too early and we are working ourselves up for nothing as we are not going to Sharm until May. Any advice or feedback would be very helpful.
Thanks
Nia
Never too early. I think there's one or two that you don't get the full protection with for 10 weeks (or something like that).
ASAP is best. Make sure of full protection - and if you should have an adverse reaction (as happens occasionally) it will be well cleared up before your holiday.
Thanks guy's you've been a great help. Only 45 mins to go
no you have to go back a week later for another injection..
Yipee had them all today but have to take kids back in mid april for their last one. Had Hep A and Typhoid and Diptheria, Tetanus and polio had to pay £3 each for the tetanus. Wasnt bad at all really but arms aching a bit now
Going to Sharm on 1st April - haven't got vaccinations yet. Do we really need them?
I don't think they are mandatory but I have had mine and the kids are due their second lot now. I think it's worth it for precautionary measures plus the fact that if you did come down with anything would the insurers pay out

Years ago we had the whole bagful for a trip to Moroco, then were still covered when we did the Nile cruise. 6 years ago we went to Nuweiba on a last minute and we never thought about jabs. ....... went back 7 or 8 times and never gave it a thought.
This January we went to Kenya; when the nurse told us all the jabs we should have my reaction was " we don't have to have those for Egypt " her answer was that we should ! !
So we've been lucky, but I wouldn't knowingly go without being covered.
Does anyone have any current info on jabs required for the Red Sea area of Egypt? We are due boosters this year, but wonder if this is really necessary?
Typhoid Vaccination recommended 10 days before travel
Hepatitis A Vaccination recommended 2 weeks before travel
Diphtheria Vaccination recommended 3 months before travel
Tuberculosis *Vaccination sometimes recommended 3 months before travel
Hepatitis B *Vaccination sometimes recommended 2 months before travel
Rabies *Vaccination sometimes recommended 1 month before travel
Meningococcal meningitis Not required .
Yellow fever Certificate of vaccination may be required 10 days before travel
Japanese B encephalitis Not required .
Tick-borne encephalitis Not required
As we are going back to an all inc this year, think we shall just play safe and get the jabs... find there are more tummy bugs going round in an all inc hotel than b and b - reckon thats because the food is lying about in the buffet etc etc. In El Gouna last year we were b and b, and we knew everywhere we went the meals were freshly cooked [sometimes because we were the only diners!] and none of us went down with anything. Sadly, cant say that for all incs!!!!

There is also less food served in a B+B so less risk of tummy bugs. But we've done AI for the last five years, six holidays in all and not had a food borne stomach problem yet.
Seriously!!! Lucky you! I have only had one mind you [but then I am dead fussy eater on holiday, wont go a mile within salad, cakes lying about etc or anything that isnt PIPING hot!]... but rest of family been less lucky! Got to say though, the Egyptian remedies are second to none... was absolutely fine immediately after taking two magic pills
I am not sure whether there is already a post regarding this, but do we need to have any injectios etc if travelling to Sharm el Sheik? I have tried to find a post, but without having to go through 1000's, I thought I would ask 1st...
have to have any but there are recommendations same as most places - the usual diptheria, tetanus, polio, hepatitis, typhoid. Best to have these anyway.
No malaria in the major holiday places in Egypt.
There is a long thread, somewhere, with loads of opinions - but the bottom line is you don't No malaria in the major holiday places in Egypt.
