Hi Lovethesun
I'd be grateful if you'd post a review for the hotel HERE.
Many thanks
Pippy
Does anyone know exactly what building work is going on at this hotel. I really like the look of it, and was thinking of booking to go here, but have seen on some tour ops websites a message that there is some building work going on here. Any info most welcome.
This used to be two separate hotels, Luna and Mares which were then amalgamated into the Sol Luna Mares complex. The Mares side is closed for refurbishment and only the Luna section is open. But its not really like building work with diggers and stuff, and nothing can be seen from the Luna side.
Anybody else going, give me a shout and we can have a little drinkie out there. Leaving from Gatwick with TC.
PS. I enquired from hotel about room upgrades and although there were none available the quoted price was 40CUC pppn which I thought was a trifle on the steep side.
The hotels email address for future queries is jefe.ventas.srm@solmeliacuba.com
And yes mods, I will post a review as soon as I get back

We are Tiffany . 20th July from Gatwick.
We stayed there back in November and had a fabulous time! I did write a review in the review section and posted some pictures. You won't be disappointed!

Yes Lyn those were my pictures you saw. We stayed in the Mares side which was the busiest side and we were in room 2019 which was a family room. We arrived when it was dark so didn't realise until we pulled the curtains the next morning what a fantastic view we had. I'm hoping to go back again in the next year and I will be asking to have that room again as it was probably one of the rooms with the best view in my opinion. It was definitely the best holiday I've ever had so far and was the epitome of paradise for me. You'll have a great time!
Thanks.I would probably prefer to be on the busier side but was worried that the rooms on the Luna side were better and were the ones with better sea views . I really need to have a good read before I email them my requests but we have 2 standard rooms with 3 sleeping in each .
hi lynn - we stayed in the luna side last may and it was lovely. i did ask to see a room on the mares side but it was smaller. we had a ground floor room in the block beginning with 5,but cant remember exact no. we looked out to sea and had a hammock outside on the grass. my sister has been 3 times there now and always stays in the luna side but on the 3rd or 4th floor in the same block as she says the views are fantastic. would love to go this year but i missed a brilliant price last week going in june and now its gone right up again. might have to wait until later on in the year.
Well i have to say that we stayed at the Lunar side which we thought was the best, just because you will be the closest to one of the best beaches, if not the best, in Cuba
Ok the rooms are not the best we have stayed in and could do with some money spent on the bathrooms but the beds were huge and comfortable and they had everything we needed in them . I emailed ahead for ocean view rooms , Luna block 5 (nearest to Mares side) and that is exactly what we got . The staff and A/I is excellent value for money when you consider we paid less to go here than we could get anywhere decent in europe A/I for this year with plenty of rum and even champagne freely available. the food is very good with a huge selection . It did get very busy the 2nd week though as english School holiday really cranked into gear with chaos in the buffet restaurant most evenings around 8 and sunbeds on the beach disappearing very early . On our first week we could easily stroll down there at 8am -9am and get a decent spot under an umbrella with the help of the sunbed man but in the 2nd week they were mostly gone by the time he arrived7.30-8am and believe me it is not an easy job dragging 6 of those through the sand on your own without any help in that heat.
As we were leaving though they appear to have grasped the buffet chaos and instead of everyone going in and wondering aimlessly for a table they now are holding you back at the door until tables are ready . Much better too for large families like ours that need a large table.
