We have just returned fromTurunc this morning. We were eating dinner in The Green Garden when the fired started. The entire village seemed to rush down to see what had happened. Enormous flames were comig through the roof and the place was gutted so quickly. The road was cordoned off and there were many fire engines and ambulances about. Luckly as far as I know there were no serious injuries, just superficial burns and smoke inhalation. Goodness knows whats going on...two fires in as many months

We came back from Turunc on Thursday. The night of the fire had just finished dinner in Bondjuk's, when someone came in and told us there was a fire at Fidans. About 6 ancient fire engines thundered past and the same number of ambulances, sirens going, lights flashing. The whole of Turunc came out to see the fire, this time it was the bar, it was completely gutted. The restaurant had burnt down in April, and been refurbished, now the same will need to be done to the bar! No one was injured fortunately. The official story seems to be from welding work, as some one else said. Apparently Mr Fidan's house also burnt down quite recently.

We are off to Turunc in August. I've never been to Turkey. We're staying in a self catering apartment -the Rose for two weeks so will be eating out most nights. Looking forward to a lazy beach holiday.
Was wondering how much things cost? Also, is it best to use Travellers Cheques or use the ATM? One more question...will it be hot hot hot? Trying to decide what SPF to buy!!!
Thank you!!

Groober,
Yes it will be hot hot hot!!
Its really a matter of choice between T.cheques & ATM, depends how much commission you pay with your card I suppose. If you have a safe its quite a good idea to take sterling, easy to change or you can use it in shops and some restaurants. This year prices are pretty good, because the exchange rate favours us. You'll find it cheaper than places like Spain. Have a great time!

Am going back to turunc this coming monday 31/7/06 with the family staying at the loryma hotel (which was brillant and we are all looking forward to visiting again) and am just after some quick info please from any whio has just returned from turunc please.

Is the local market still on a monday, with four under 9's any views on where to eat ( as we are s/c and not h/b this year ) and also any advice on whether to shop in the turunc jewellery shops or to travel into the bigger towns and how to haggle while there.

One last request last year i found turunc more expensive than say marmaris re drinks, is that still the case, although the tranquility and hassle-free when in turunc is priceless.

Cant wait to go and look forward to reading the replies to my questions..

Hi Vince 1

We have just returned from two fantastic weeks in Turunc. In answer to your queries -

Yes the local market is still held on a Monday although be sure to go early as its so HOT at the moment.

Most of the restaurants in Turunc, if not all, will cater for your family. We tried many different ones this time including the new Fish and Chip shop who bake steak pies to die for! Plenty of burgers and chips and chicken nuggets for the children everywhere if they are not too adventurous.

There are loads of jewellery shops in Turunc selling both gold and silver and you can actually browse in the window without being hassled. Make sure you bargain for anything though starting at about half the price and working upwards until you agree on a price to suit all.

Enjoy your holiday

Christabel

PS Although the drinks are a little dearer in Turunc there were many bars offering "happy hour" each night.

PPS The dolmus into Icmeler costs 4TL and the water taxi 7.50 TL (I think)

Thank you Christabel for all your help there. we are looking forward to going back to turunc again and will certainly be trying the fish and chips shop. Thanks for your help regarding the haggling, i'm not to bad at it in the markets but didn't know where to begin in the shops. Thanks once again

Off to turunc on Wednesday 9th august - can't wait. We are staying in the barbaros apartments. Has anybody been there. We have booked them through June at JM Travel who we used for all our trips when we were last in turunc in 2003. Has anybody returned recently? What temp was it? I am hoping the couple of scorching weeks we had here was good preparation for what is to come. Hope everyone has a good summer whereever they spend it.

Hi we went to Turunc for the day when we were in Turkey a couple of weeks ago. The weather was great. As you have stayed in Turunc before what is it like to stay there for a week or two. Is there enough to do on the night etc, are there enough bars and resturants. We were only there for a couple of hours so we didn't get a chance to look around properly.

I have asked for your apartments to be added to our review page.
