Just back from another lovely relaxing holiday at our apartment in Turunc. You can't beat it, if like us you lead a busy working life most of the year, and really need to unwind. One of the best times is sitting on the balcony early evening between the day on the beach or by the pool, and going out for dinner, with a glass of wine, and watching the shepherd bringing his sheep down from the mountains for the night. The only sounds are the chicadas (don't know how to spell it!), cockerels crowing, donkeys braying etc., and we are still only minutes from many great restaurants and bars. Received the usual warm welcome from all the bar owners, waiters etc. Went on the five bays boat trip, which is a brilliant day out, very good value at £10 per head including barbecue, and the crew put on an excellent performance dancing on the cliffs, then diving in.
Oh well, its back to the grindstone tomorrow I suppose - saving up for the next visit!

I have read many posts regarding Turunc and the good always seems to outweigh the bad (92% satisfaction rate).

But would say there is one place to avoid at all cost and that is the .....

THE DIPLOMAT HOTEL.

The words RUDE arrogant, nasty, slob, dirty are a few that only start to describe the hotel and it's owner( an ex turkish diplomat no less) and with as much soul as a stone be warned go at your peril. The same goes for the B awful company that took us there HOLIDAYS 4 U.

Otherwise I love Turunc.

The main ATM is the HSBC on the street from the harbour but what did make me giggle was a KOC BANK portable ATM built into the side of a MERCEDES Van parked in a side street and full functional supported I might add by two armed guards worked perfectly seeing it was a dish/satelite connection.

Those Turks eh...!!!

BRIER & TINSLEY...i think you are refering to different DIPLOMAT HOTELS.. I think the one that BRIER stays at is contracted by TAPESTRY HOLIDAYS and is excellent... (right tucked away in the corner of the bay) & always fully booked the other DIPLOMAT has many floors and entrance in the HIGH STREET.. (looks grotty) there is also a DIPLOMAT "2" above Georgios bar to confuse things even more.. Tinsley take a look at TAPESTRYS web site http://www.tapestryholidays.com and you will see a photograph of their DIPLOMAT HOTEL... :ghug

JOANNE.. the apts. are fine, clean ,friendly owners, family run ..the only prob i can see is with KOSMAR i have always found them a little hit and miss with reps etc. & reliability, change of flight times nr. to departure day for example but your accommodation will be fine in TURUNC so dont worry..... i'm off to TURUNC next Monday 12th & also hope to be back next MAY/JUNE... take a look at http://www.turunc-village.com

My original comment still stands as again bourne out by postings on other sites which is a shame as the Hotel is in one of the best spots in the Village. The Diplomat Appts over the road from the the hotel are scruffy and the pool area is not kept well and the fact the GIORGIO has taken a plot underneath seems weird (TO ME).

NOW!!!!.....the VILLAS they are wonderful but are totaly run and managed by TAPESTRY the DIPS(Mr and Mrs) have nothing to do with them and according to a Tapestry rep I met last year if there was any interference Tapestry would drop them(Tapestry once had the HOTEL in the brouchure(long time ago) I will agree the Tapestry on line site is one of the best for pictures and is emulated by the breakaway tapestry mob also who have a site (the name escapes me )

Hello JOANNE,
The SEN APPTS are fine just up the road from the main street. I have not stayed there but like you do.. have had a nose at one of the appartments and they are well kept and clean. Pool area is nice and the bar and outside eating a very decent sized, they do a very good all you can eat dinner buffet of which I thought was good value/ quality . You are also next door to one of the best restaurants in TURUNC the BONJUK (evil eye) but then you will walk around and find you very own favorite....always explore you are your own quality control.

ENJOY!.

Can I have some recommended eating places in Turunc please? I have tried the Green Garden which is excellent and Fidan's has been recommended but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

CHRISTABEL... Give the KORFEZ a go.. it's our favourite you'll find it on the beach front next to the little bridge, ask Mehmet to reserve a table next to the sea for you ,you wont be dissapointed proffesional service and great food ,you'll be made most welcome and i'm sure you'll go back, also the HAN on the seafront to...but wherever you eat i dont think you'll have a bad meal as it's hard to find a bad restaurant ... bon appitite...

I really like mermaids on the beachfront It is very small but the food in the evening is delicious The chef is anatolian and sami the waiter is very friendly and helpful If you are there in the day ask him for a lookat the evening menu. Having said that I think they would make what ever you wanted within reason. Menemen was not on the menu but I asked for it one lunchtime and he made me the best enemen I have ever had Say hello from Ross my wee boy He loved sami and Hassan

Try ordering oven cooked lamb from Bonjuk's which is slightly up the hill on the way out of town. You have to order it 24 hours in advance, because they slow cook it over night and the next day. They then serve it with lots of accompaniments (don't order starters), they make a big thing of it with sparklers etc., As long as you are not veggies of course! Its really superb! They also do nice steak.
We've also had some lovely meals at Surmans (can't remember if that the right spelling). Also Antic is good which is round the back of the village near the Sunset Gardens. As Kingfisher said wherever you go, you're highly unlikely to have a bad meal! We also asked in one restaurant if they could get us some Sea Bass for our barbecue, and of course they obliged - 5 lovely fresh fish for £15 - can't be bad!
