I'd recommend the CONRAD HOTEL, SHARM EL SHEIKH.

Great hotel, great beach.
Not much in the way of entertainment but it's a short mini-bus ride away to the night life of Naama Bay

Can't comment on the weather in January as I was there early August last year and will be there again early August next year!

Pippy :D

ive just been looking at the conrad for us next may, and it has good reviews on here but bad ones on trip advisor so very confusing. last time i went to this area it was totally undeveloped and was just sand so will be interesting to see it after 24 years, a few things i would like to know is, do they do a childrens menu as i have a very fussy 6 year old, do they cook any food infront of you ie pancakes for breakfast etc,do you get any free alcoholic cocktails or is it basic vodka etc. are ice creams included in the all incs and are there any shops, within walking distance thanks a lot

I think the Conrad is still a bot too far from town... best look for a hotel in Naama Bay or maybe in Hadaba. And then go BB not AI.

im fairly restricted to first choice as i have a holiday booked with them and due to some changes in the hotel ive booked they are going to let me change it without charge, so im looking at other options ,we were going to morocco, i love turkey too, so i dont want to be isolated, and all the hotels ive looked at arent giving free child unless i go all inc so the price difference isnt much

For you Elie I reckon that the Conrad would be a good choice. It is ideal for families and is a very nice resort. The beach is also spacious and flat unlike many other resorts in Sharm ( they don t have the lovely beaches that we have here in Nuweiba ). But for Kaz I reckon in Naama Bay would be much better.

24 years ? Long time... first time I went to Sharm was about 18 - 19 years ago and then it was very much different. I did nt get to Nuweiba till 1994... but then Naama was fairly well developed by Hadaba was literally just starting.

i know and i slept on the sand in a sleeping bag and it was freezing all night not a hotel or shop in site, will be interesting to see how much its changed, we were coming from israel into egypt on the bus it dropped us off there with no where to buy food or drink and we had to wait til the next day to be collected by a bus to take us to egypt, god i would die now, how things change lol

Hi Karen .As you probably know we went to sharm for our main holiday this year and are going back next easter. I think Karen egypt would be an excellent choice for you for May. it would be the perfect time to go + your hubby could get some diving in :D + the egptian people are similar to the turks so you would love them.
although one word of warning if you go A/I because i know you like a town to walk round, as i have just said in another post there isnt anything outside of these hotels except beach on one side and dust on the other . it really isnt the sort of place you would walk out the front of your hotel for a stroll :D how you would in Turkey unless of course you are staying in Naarm bay on a B+B or HB basis.

Im really not trying to put you off I just know how important it is for you to make the right decision.

Im sure you would love it if you know what to expect, the hotels are of a high standard , food is good and cheap if you decide to stay in town and the egyptians cant do enough for you.

p.s and Yes Karen they do cook in front of you , at least at breakfast . Eggs of different variety , + ommlettes and yes the most delicous pancakes :D

lyn its stressing me out changing this dam holiday, everything i pick is either too dear or bad reports grrr, the 2 ive come up with so far for egypt with good reports especially the coral sea resort the other is the conrad sharm el sheikh, there is about £300 difference in price for the coral compared to the conrad so not sure what to do, its a pain being tied to first choice too as i cant see any in naarm bay which sounds like i might prefer if theres shops around, i dont like to be hotel bound, im happy there during the day or beach but at night i like a wonder around a town or shops, not sure not if this is the right place to go ,what a nightmare its doing my head in lol

Elie... you really can not imagine how it has changed. I know lots of people have said that to you already but really it is unbelievable. Whether you like it or not remains to be seen.

I don t go down to Sharm much.... usually only every 3 or 4 months... it is amazing and very beautiful but not my cup of tea.... too big ... far too big... and every three months I see more and more changes !

I have to confess Swiss . We only ventured down to Naarm bay once and that was enough for us. must be a sign of getting old. We are going back to Hilton sharks bay next easter but we wont be feeling the need to go into Naarm bay. its going to be purely a relaxation and diving break for us and then the next time we go to Egypt we are heading for Nuweiba for more of the same :D

There are a few AI's nearer to Namma Bay, so that you would have somewhere to walk about in the evening. Do First Choice do any of them?

I think the Sonesta Club & Sonesta Beach, also there is a Jolie Ville Movenpick (I think that's what it's called?), and one of the Three Corners.
You'd need to check the reviews though.

I've checked the Coral Sea and the Conrad quite a few times for price and the Conrad has always been more expensive, I think the Coral is 4* and Conrad* which might explain it. - Chris

KazeBabe, I agree with the others, I think the closer to Namma Bay for you the better. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza which was nice and about 10 mins in a cab, they do B&B but have restaurants you can use if you don't want to go out some nights. Some of the hotels going north are 25 or 30 mins in a cab which can be a bit wearing night after night. Portlanddirect normally have the Crowne Plaza on at a good price.

hi chris

i can see the sonesta beach, movenpick resort, elwekala three corners resort but brochure is saying they are all in taba, ive read up on taba and thats saying theres nothing there ,so getting well confused now or is there other hotels in naama with the same names lol

coral was coming out £300 more for the 3 of us for 2 weeks than the conrad but reports a lot better

Karen perhaps I'm getting mixed up  I thought there were hotels of that name close to Namma Bay. But if FC web site says Taba, I guess they must be there.

It's odd that the Coral is working out dearer for you, for me its always the Conrad that is more expensive.

Is it First Choice you booked with or is it Eclipse?

chris - there is the sonesta beach rsort and sonesta club in naama bay but dont think they are A/I. I thinks thats the one in Taba.

Karen - i did notice on the eclipse site they have an A/I in el gouna where there are shops/bars. maybe worth a look.
