No plans to change venue just yet Pat;our Portuguese friends own a bar and stock draught Sagres. They always order an extra barrel when I go over-(don't know whether to feel honoured or ashamed)so I don't have to panic just yet. It's just that a lot of places that used to sell Sagres have switched to Superbock or Tagus, neither of which I'm particularly fond of.
On a totally different subject, has anyone else noticed a change in the drivers' attitudes to pedestrian crossings this year?Up to two years ago they just ignored them altogether as if they weren't there;then, almost overnight, everybody, including taxis and even busses, stopped if you even looked as if you were going to approach a crossing. This year it's back to square one and they'll mow you down without a second glance, crossing or no crossing!! :yikes Has anyone else experienced this or is it just restricted to the Lagos area?

hi Sagres, My opinion of zebra crossings on the Algarve are S====. The problem to me is the road markings are a lot to be desired, they dont seem to renew the markings when they are barely visable, and, what a stupid place to put the majority them right on roundabouts when you are concentrating on getting through the roundabout. They really should take a lesson from the UK . Personally if the Portuguese had to drive in UK they wouldnt stand a cat in hells chance of not having an accident, as they are not at all courtious, never give way or let you in on a queue of traffic. I never drive in Portugal, wonder why, I,m a bad enough front seat driver my feet are so active braking constantly really stresses me out. Makes me wonder why you hear the ambulance claxons goin more regular than ever just recently. Just another female moan but have sed mi piece lol Cheers Jayjan

I nearly got run over walking up to the strip the other day, crossing said green but the car still drove round the corner.

Sambache, you take your life into your own hands, I,m the same even when the crossing is on green for pedestrians I always look both ways. Considering we are all in the EU i think driving laws, road signs and crossings should be all up to standard which ever EU country you live in, then maybe it would be safer all across the board so to speak. So it's not just the Lagos area then ! I'm convinced that the police must have had a major crackdown last year for everyone to have been so careful at the crossings - pity the crackdown didn't continue.
I agree that the positioning of most of the crossings (just off roundabouts)is crazy- on the rare occasion that a driver stops to let a pedestrian cross, the traffic backs up all around the roundabout and traffic from all four directions comes to a halt.Never mind, they'll soon make up the lost time screaming down the main street with their foot to the boards !!

All golfers have plenty money to spare, they must have spending the amount it cost to play the courses. Have you played Victoria Mick? I believe that its daft silly money for a round. I personally like Salgados, reasonable price, nice course, loadsa wild life and lots of water hazards, luvs watchin him indoors face when on rare occasions the ball goes splash hehehe, although he does play well overall. Me i'm just a trolley dolly who looks forward to the nineteeth hole. Cheers Jayjan

jayjan,
Don't know whether or not you've got 2007 flights sorted out yet, but,if not, take a look at Thomsonfly(ex-Britannia).
I've just booked flights for next September for £131 return for the two of us and the flight times are,in my opinion, better than Jet2's.

Sagres is that flying from Doncaster, Manchester or another regional airport? Cheers Jayjan

Here goes my moan for today.......... I checked Thomsons although I've already booked for next year (out of curiosity) and for the exact same day in September it costs £437.96 from Glasgow and in May it is £477.96.......I paid £220 in total for each = £440 with Globespan and IMO better flight times!!!!!!
Although that doesn't sound like I should be moaning, I just wonder why Thomsons do it much cheaper from England than they do from Scotland (and these dates aren't even school holidays!!!!!) :hmmm

Pat,

Totally agree. When flying in Sept 2007 I checked flyglobespan for Sept 15th for a fortnight and it was only £290 for me the missus and an infant? Much more on Thomsons website £468. Shocking

They used to be quite reasonable as well. no surprise they always have last minute seats available from Glasgow eh? :?
