They say Nicosia has a great nightlife in winter, now I can understand this but it is a good walk to the beach, Limassol well have been there in winter (most weekends for shopping) but not my idea of a fun place, does have some great restaurants only bettered by Nicosia, Larnaka again a working city and really not in my opinion a fun holiday resort in winter, and yes we do have some sort of winter here, so not being biased in the slightest (Pugdog :) ) it has to be open all year (mostly) Pafos for a winter break, if nothing else you can buy me a pint!!

Well that gives us some food for thought!
If we end up in Cyprus we will let you know the verdict - thanks everyone.

You would be hard pushed to get a package to the Eastern side at this time , but a private rental and hire a car and explore on the quiet roads , check out all the fab beaches for your next visit,

Hi, my wife and I went to Paphos last Easter and really enjoyed it, however we were staying in the Alexander the Great hotel, and not in apartments.
You can't compare Paphos to other places like the Canaries easily, it's a very pretty little place and the harbour is really nice. Just off the harbour are some excavated villas with amazing mosaics from Roman times, well worth a visit, it's a world heritage site.
We stayed mostly in the hotel as the entertainment was excellent, but just opposite were two bars that had acts on and seemed OK. One place to avoid though is the place called Bar Street, not far from the harbour. Before we went we were under the impression that it was something like Las Americas or a small version of Benidorm club area. In fact it is an area full of noisy discos, drunken teenagers and prostitutes.
The centre of the town, with it's covered market streets, is nice to spend a few hours browsing around.
Trips out are plentful and interesting. Try a day in Nicosia, the old town with it's little winding alleys, full of lace and silver shops and nice little cafes, is very pleasant.
There are beaches at Paphos but I wouldn't call them top notch, you can do paragliding, fishing, skiing etc though. Prices are about the same as here, and there is a lot of cheap forged designer label stuff in the shops. The locals are friendly, the buses regular and reliable, and the local wine is cheap and good quality.
I'd certainly go back to Cyprus, and to Paphos. Enjoy your stay.
One thing to beware of, although the Greek Cypriots have absorbed more than a few Turkish customs before the partitoning, they will never admit this, and their resentment of Turkey runs very deep, so don't mention anything as being "turkish" or you really will offend them. Even their Turkish delight is called Cypriot Delight.

Hello

Eating out in Paphos can be as cheap or as expensive as you wish it to be.

There are plenty of good, reasonably priced cafes & restaurants along the Harbour and the Tombs of the Kings Road.

We enjoy treating ourselves at Siennas, between Paphos & Coral Bay. The food is lovely but a little pricey.

We always make a be line for Vikalari (The Last Castle) on the Akamas Peninsular, 30 mins drive up the coast from Paphos. They serve only at lunchtime, BBQ food, simple but great. The views are spectacular.

We also enjoy the Peyia Tavern, a traditional Taverna in Peyia, just 3 miles inland from Coral Bay - remember to book in advance.

Have a great trip in August

Hello there, first time to Cyprus this year, we are going to Protaras staying
at the Brilliant Apartments.

Can anyone help me out with some questions I have?

Can someone tell me if Cyprus (Protaras) is as expensive as some people say?

Can someone give me some prices for things such as bottle of beer, a standard meal for four, glass of coke etc?

Are there any ATM's in Protaras?

Can someone recommend any bars & restaurants?

Look forward to hearing from anyone

well i haven been to Protaras for a couple of years [although its my favorite resort on Cyprus] yes there are at least 3 ATM's {to find where and if they take your cards please use the ATM finders on page 1 of the ATM thread in general enquiries forum}

is it expensive depends on what you are comparing it to... yes its dearer than say Spain but compared to the UK no its not { like any other resorts if you get away from the main areas then taverner's etc are cheaper, its also a lot cheaper if you drink local booze and eat fresh local Cypriot food]

for members reviews on these apartments see this link

as for latest prices i will leave this for Pubdog or elizibeth mc fee who both have homes there to reply

Hi there. We honeymooned in Protaras in Oct 2005 and had a great time. We found it cheap to eat and got some lovely fresh meals too. Can recommend Nicolas Taverna.

There are several ATM's along the strip.

We are really looking forward to going back next year hopefully

I use my Nationwide visa , so no charges. that way it costs you nothing, i cant be doing with the hassle of travellers cheques. If you take your passport into the bank with your visa card you can get all your money in one go if you want.

I never take travellers cheques always cash and try not to use visa anymore, we have a safe in our place and would advise anyone to hire a safe where ever they stay especially if you take lots of cash or credit cards.

We usually change our money at the hut in ayia napa but i understand that has been bulldozed to make way for something else, I will need to check it out next week when i am over

in Protaras that does money exchange and does as good a rate as anywhere else.

I always bring Cy money back with me for the next visit but if i do need to get some currency here in the UK i usually go to Marks

I think the sunbeds usually vary in protaras I am sure its £1 for brolly and £1 for bed but I may be wrong as last year we spen a lot of time at Ayia Thekla outside Ayia napa and it was £1.50 there for bed and brolly.

Gooner family

sorry i missed your post we stayed at the Brilliant apartments about 8 years ago before they built Eden Square which is to the front of the apartments, you can cut through Eden Sq to get to the beach or the main strip, the aprtments were very good and in an ideal spot just of the main strip but withing walking distance of all the bars and beach.

You need to shop around for prices like all resorts all over the world prices vary, we usually pay about a £1 for a very large leon/Keo but we tend to drink in local places now, in the resorts you can pay from £1.60 upwards.

I would suggest you keep checking the site for information on best places to eat out especially over the next few weeks when it will get busier , hope you enjoy your stay and for some photos take a look at

Hi, I am going to Cyprus in July, in total there will be 4 adults and 4 children, we are staying in Villa Dalia near Coral Bay, i was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of the cost of taxi from Paphos Airport.

Thanks
Reply
£20 to £25 NO more than that, do ask before taking the taxi!! but there are a lot of you so a mini bus maybe what you will need, this will cost more.

Distance is about 30 kilometers
