Thanks for the reply Kath - no not coral bay: Kamares Tala

I have had input from the excellent cyprus living who have reccomended (spelling) a purpose set up in Polis - I think she is pretty keen

If advertising is naughty, I apologise but anyone with a similar question might want to look at http://www.ca.tourist-apts.com.cy

Rates seem good and it is geared to those in wheelchairs plus their carers
I have the email address of a place on TOTk that may also be of help if
anyone is interested!

Thanks again - I would still be interested in anybody else's experiences

hello all
i have now swapped the tickets over to my son for our salou holiday, as the husband didnt fancy spain :? anyway we have now booked an allocation on arrival to paphos, fly out of luton on Jan 27th for a week. I know its going to be a lottery, but am determined to make the best of some much needed time off work. I have a few questions that I would be grateful if some HT'ers could answer for me. :) I wont ask re weather as I have checked on previous posts, we thought it would be swimming weather  I think thats a no no?
I have seen on posts there is a market, is this just fruit and veg or is it like the kind you get in turkey?
Are there likely to be many restaurants and bars open?
please excuse extreme ignorance  I have never been to any greek island before but can you get anything like a turkish bath experience?
Will the Jeep safari be running and if so where to book? we are travelling with portland so not sure if they have reps that do this or preferably there is somewhere in the town to book.
I apologise for all the questions, finally my husband is excited about the break away :pele and I am too, even if I now have to pack my Jumpers.
thank you

Hi. I live in the UK but have a place in Paphos and have been many times in the past few years so hopefully I can put your mind at rest. I love cyprus and Paphos is a great holiday place but things things will be quieter than peak season, you will find quite a few hotels, bars, restaurants closed for holidays / refurb. I was there for 3 weeks in december and ate out alot. Have they given you any possible allocations or will it be random? We had temperatures in the 20's for December with only 3 days of cloudy weather, when the sun was shining it was sun bathing weather, provided it wasnt windy. several hotels have heated pools so you may be lucky. The sea temp was between 18 - 19 at surface as my husband was scuba diving regularly there.
There is a market in the old town, mostly fruit / veg when i have visited it.
Many of the large hotels on Posidonos Ave have spa facilities.

There are quite a few agencies in the town offering regular trips, including a jeep safari. One i know of is in the same shopping area as Cydive, only a couple of doors down but i cant remember its name, there are also several down tomb of the kings road. you wont have a problem.

Any more q's then please ask

The market is well worth a visit. There is a lot of local fruit, veg, etc sold outside but if you go into the main building there's quite a variety at prices a lot cheaper than in the 'tourist' shops.
I always visit to buy spices there. Seriously, they are so cheap. For example, a huge packet of Saffron cost me £1.50 a couple of years ago and I'm still using it!!
If you walk through the main market building it leads you into the old town which has some excellent shops.

Only 19 weeks to go now!!

thank you both so much for your quick replies.
we have been given no idea where we will stay. we are going expecting the worst in terms of accomodation and that way, anything better is a great bonus
we will definately visit the market and check out the spices. I would be delighted if i get even a couple of days warm sunshine, our current weather here in norfolk very grim
I am just looking forward to a new experience and finding out about cyprus.
Happy hols to you both :fly

Hi la,
Hope you enjoy your first visit to Paphos, we have been going for 14years and love the place. Although you are going when the weather is a little 'ify' there are compensations, if you are interested in any of the mosaics and archaeological sites then you will be able to stroll around without being out in the blazing sun in the summer :sun so if they are open give the Tomb of the Kings a go (main coast road) the mosaics are near the harbour along with other sites.
The jeep safari would be well worth it, as again you would not be crammed into a vehicle in heat that can be very intense in the middle of summer, I'm sure there will be some available, your hotel should be able to help you. :gluck

A few companies doing jeep safaris

here

here

and here.

Fire off a few emails to see who is doing safaris at this time of the year.

Be warned, Cypriots are notorious for being slow to respond to emails.

Mark

Note; I'm not recommending any of the above. I have no knowledge of jeep safaris, as such.

Yes like to know also..

still get that invalid message session when trying to post directly on HT!!! :x

No not really, but the letter above was forwarded to my inbox and I managed for some reason to reply, I guess it's that roaming ISP that many of us have these days that is causing this posting conflict..

wasnt sure whether it would have been ok to bump this but did desperately want to tell you all how it went.
:wow what an amazing place. Our flight with thomson was good although we had about 15 minutes of turbulence going over the alps :yuck however once at paphos airport we were through very quickly. By this stage I was ready to run out to the thomson rep to find out where we were going! handed a ticket that said King Jason apartments. As we slowly dropped people off at lovely hotels I wondered what ours would be like. We pulled up outside the apartments and were met with a welcome drink and shown to our room. It was lovely, so much nicer than we could have even hoped for. I have put a review in, although on here they are known as louis king jason?. WE used the hotel indoor pool jacuzzi and steam room so I got my spa experience :D we booked our jeep safari through thomson just in case we couldnt book anywhere else (which we could have done) and went to Akamas Gorge, breathtaking place :love2 . Both of us really completely fell in love with cyprus, everything about it. we had a real windy day on the sunday and constant rain from friday through saturday our last day there. other than that the weather was glorious. husband and I now looking at realities of leaving behind the UK and buying in cyprus. we have travelled to many places and never felt like this. so a big thank you for all your help and advice :ghug
