No dont bring her anywhere near Baga Beach!!! I know what you mean about the sentimental bit, but she is an eyesore!!!
Let's hope we get to wave bye bye to the Old Girl. I'm sure they'll get her further than Baga but after being supposedly dumped there the in the first place you wonder where she will go (isn't that a Beatles lyric?). Let's hope she's thoroughly recycled or at least Rusts In Peace
I just hope after they move the lady inquestion it leaves no oil leaks,or rust fragments lurking in the sea .
I came across four pges of photos when I Googled " river Princess Goa They were take by somone who got on board with a camera at xmas 2004. The rust damage on deck is horrendous, I've always thought that a competent salver would be able to get her off the beach and towed to the breakers but now I,m not so sure. Bearing in mind that she was 19 years old when she grounded and that those ships are usualy scrapped around the 20 year mark, the hull must be paper thin and when subjected to the stresses and strains of being floated off and towed away, there must be a distinct possibilatley of her breaking up during the operation, and then you'll have a hell of an envirmental problem on the surrounding beaches Alan
Let's hope the RP holds together while they move her Unless they ar going to dismantle her where she is and cart her off in bits? That sounds unlikely but my day job isn't maritime salvage so who knows?
Work is now going on 24/7, constantly pumping water out which to me indicates that it is still getting in!!! Thay have also been dredging around close to the hull. There has been a small tug on standby since November, I would have thought that more than one would be needed, I swum round her two years ago and even then there were rust perforation holes visible in the hull, If she doesn't move easily I can imagine her being pulled apart. The date on the street is 15/3 for action, we'll see?
Water still pumping but less and less each day.
There are also another 2 tugs moored up near the prison with the Dredger.
We leave on the 12 th so hope to see the removal .
The 9th is a better time as far as tides go, it is just after a Spring tide, the 15th is a Neap tide. The difference in Goa is about 1.5metres. My betting is still the 21st March. Should be the biggest tide this year.
Any update on whats happening with the ship. I arrive on the 1st April - will she be gone?
In the Herald today its says she will be gone by the end of March
I was hoping to take a look at her, We dont get there till the 1st april so it likes we are going to miss it
Never mind !
Pip
The Goverment seems confident anyway-
...and here was me thinking I would see it in October!
You might do Fiona! This is Goa after all!!
Spike, we might see it go wanted to get a few more pics of her, it may be my imagination or the the angle of recent Pics but the bows seem to be pointing out to sea more than they were last April.
Well Alan - they seem to be going back 2 weeks, so hope it's not 2 months, then come the monsoons then another longgggg wait ? Hope it does happen though !
Right Spike, so we wont hold our breath It could well be Goan time
