Miccie, I will send you a PM once ive uploaded the photos onto the gallery, will save you from keeping looking all the time
Sunday 22 April Had our usual day at the Oceanic. Done nothing in particular except lie about and bake in the scorching heat
I meant to say earlier I got one of the lads at the shack to get me my own Indian sim card, its on the Idea network and cost 995 rupees and thats a lifetime sim card, so when we go back in November I can top up with that card, saves time and no hassle.
We decided to go to Candolim tonight cos I thought we might pop into Mai Tai and see if anyone was there. Ate at a place called Ruffles (just round from Mai Thai, on the main road). We both decided on traditional British food for a change. About 9ish I left the restaurant and walked round to Mai Thai but no HTers were there so we spent the night in Ruffles. Both had a two course (traditional) meal with several vodkas and some nice cocktails and the bill for the whole evening was 1463 rupees. Music was still being played about 11ish and the police drove by, so music very swiftly switched off and all the windows and door slammed shut, ive never seen Indian waiters move so fast in my life
Left at 12 to get a taxi back to Arpora. Stopped a taxi and asked how much it would cost, he told me some ridiculous price like 350 rupees which I just at. No way. We eventually agreed on 200 rupees.
Driving back to the hotel we saw a good night going on in our 'local' Sebastians. Jumped out the taxi and joined in the fun. Met some great girls from Manchester and had a fab night in there with 'Elvis'. That wasnt his name, but my friend Emily named him that. He was the bar person who was playing the guitar and we were all singing along to Elvis songs among others. Another late night but great fun.
Monday 23 April Had a lazy morning and decided to have a day at the pool. Never usually lie at the pool in Goa, cos there is so much happening at the beach, but it made a nice pleasant change. Had fantastic massage at beauty parlour, cost about £10 but professionally done and much better than the beach shacks. Emily also had her hair done, but the burst matress thingy that Irishman mentioned in another post was how I would describe the outcome . Had to go to the room and do it all again, so wont be using the hairdresser at the Lagoa Azul again. Hairdresser (if thats what you could call her) said she had too much hair and she didnt know what to do with it
Also had a nice two course lunch at the hotel restaurant, obviously more expensive than the shacks, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Made some phone calls home from the phone at the hotel reception, very cheap to use.
Tonight we decided to go to Banana Moon in Calangute for something to eat. Banana Moon was recommended by other HTers. Quite a down to earth pub/restaurant with a singer as well. Prices were great! A 3 course dinner was 200 rupees per person. Lots of variety and choices of food. Excellent value for money. We had a couple of drinks as well and the total bill was only 540 rupees.
Another early night. Got a taxi back to the hotel. Had a couple of drinks in Sebastians and then off the bed ......
ssssshhhh about Banana Moon - we wanted to keep it quiet!!!
Gemma next season the explosion in the mattress factory hair style will be all the rage and you dont need to go the hairdressers just bring those straighteners things,i can just see you and irishcolleen sitting in mai tia and all the other ladies being envious but dont sit in front of the bar or the waiter wont be able to see me when i need another drink
Dont worry I will make sure those large whiskies dont stop flowing and you wont be short of a drink or two
Looking forward to seeing you both in November
really enjoying your report Gemma, how were all the lads at the Oceanic??
Lots of new staff at the Oceanic Shirley and some of the old faces as well. Jay, Raju, Sikander, Sam etc are all there, but other ones have moved on, which is a shame. Also Johnny and Deepu moved along to St Anthonys Shack (2 along to the left).
Can I have a large whisky too in fact make mine a DOUBLE
Trebles are the business, most cant get past the doubles tho, cant see it changing either, can only cope with it once every 30 years
Tuesday 24 April - Just the usual routine. Get up and head for the beach. If its not the hotel bus to Baga Beach then we get a taxi. Ive noticed that our taxi driver Rupesh charges 150 rupees from the Lagoa Azul to Baga Beach but if we jump in a taxi with one of the hotel taxis it only coss 100 rupees Its only 50 rupees but I hate to think people are ripping me off!
Been having a look at the hotel shop and they sell gorgeous bags, shoes and other small accessories. Everything is cheap because it is end of season. Need to give this further investigation and get stocked up on some goodies before going home
Had a quiet night in the hotel restaurant tonight. Emily isnt feeling that great, with very dodgy tummy not the full delhi belly business, but still not feeing 100 per cent. I only had a couple of drinks this evening and Emily is on the diet coke and we had a nice two course meal. Bill for the whole night 946 rupees. Still dont like this circle shape bar at the Lagoa Azul and everone is also sitting facing each other, its a strange concept! Early night for us ....
Happy birthday Gemma,have a lovely evening.Paula
Wednesday 25 April - Taking some washing to Vell Wash today. We handed in ironing only and laundry to the LA. Prices are great, very cheap, only about 20 rupees per item. The clothes did come back clean, but they parcel up all the clothes so they still look crushed So its off to see the nice man at Vell Wash. Rupesh busy today so we got another taxi driver at the hotel called Amigo. Took us to Vell Wash, then along to a tailors in Tito's Road to see about getting a dress made (for Emily).
We also decided to get the taxi along to Candolim beach for a change. Got dropped off near the Whispering Palms and we were intending to go to Ganesh Shack, but its so quiet and the shacks are really deserted. So we walk along to the right, going more into Candolim. Evetually stopped at Bono's shack. Recognised the name from the forum (but didnt know if it was good or bad reading). Bono's shack is fabulous. I had never been in cleaner toilets anywhere, apart from After 7. Ive taken a photo of one of the ladies toilets so other HTers can see, will upload soon. I was amazed. Two ladies and two separate gents toilets. Food was great, shack immaculate and virtually no hassle from any sellers. Will definitely come back here. Amigo told us to phone him when we wanted collected. He came back about 5ish. Picked us up near the Snow Inn, just facing the football park. It was a bit manic near the Snow Inn, with all the bikes, taxis, buses. All the traffic was trying get round the temporary abandoned bikes cos everyone was watching the footy! So Amigo charged us 500 rupees for a whole day running about all over the place, cheaper than we would have paid Rupesh, thats for sure!
At night we ate at Lazy Days. Food here is nice, not fantastic, but very acceptable and no complaints. We were joined by Chilly and Mike and Lez. We had a good night, a few drinks and lots of chatting
Thanks Paula, thats really nice. Looking forward to a nice night out
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you!!!! Have a great day.
Cannot wait to see the photo of the ladies loos at Bonos!
Hi Shirley we are staying the the Queens Hotel in York and going to eat here. Was in the restaurant last night it was very nice. Do you know the hotel, its overlooking the River Ouze and in the centre, its very convenient.
We like Bono's shack too. The toilets are lovely except for the time I saw a live frog in one of them.
Happy birthday Gemma, we will be in thirsk not far from york tuesday and wednesday staying at the golden fleece, then on to Hull for the weekend to stay with my son for a couple of days, York is a brillant place we go quite a lot x
Yes Gemma I know the Queen's hotel , my friend stayed there recently hope you enjoy your meal.
I am nearly finished now, only a few more days to go. But we did try a couple of different restaurants the last few days (recommended by other HTers) so I will mention them as well, might give people new ideas for Winter 07/early 08
Carol: you and I were like passing ships in the night between Bono's and The Shining Star but hope to catch up with you on your next visit.
Thanks Shirley
Bonos toilets have to be seen to be believed - i was thanked on the way out for complimenting them!
