Just back from Los Cristianos on Sat and whilst we had a great time the place was very quiet. Found everything good value for money but there was very little happening in the bars after we had dinner and were looking for somewhere to have drinks.

I am just back from Tenerife where I was staying all inclusive.I am glad I was as the prices in some of the bars are frightening.I was charged 8 euros for a can of john smiths and a local vodka and coke in one pub and about 6.50 euros in another pub for the same drinks. No wonder the resort of PDLA was quiet. Is it just greed by some of the bar owners or does it cost a lot to import into Tenerife. When I got back I went to Asda and bought 15 cans of john smiths for 7 pounds, thats just over 50 pence a can, they are charging 3.50 for the same can in Tenerife.I really enjoyed the holiday but I would think twice about going back at these prices.

its not being tight or miserable its about paying a "fair" price!
never mind those people who think bars are "not" taking the pee, some are!!!

you "little legs" are the same as them and entitled to your opinion :sun2 off which i agree

Some bars are taking the pee but a lot aren't. Always check prices before going in! ;

I have just returned from Tenerife and agree it did seen quiet for this time of year. Whilst I have never been to Tenerife before I must say I have a very good time - even if some of the pubs were quite quiet. I was very impressed with the prices of the drinks and the food in the pubs - we certainly tried a few!

I prefer to "pub crawl" rather than sit in one pub all night. We were staying opposite La Vista beach (near McDonalds) and felt we were right in the middle for both Los Cristianos and PDLA - although I only ventured as far as the Strip in PDLA but did go along to Los Cristianos most nights.

We spent many a night (and a couple of lunchtimes) in the North an South pub opposite the La Vista beach and found this to be one of the most reasonable pubs - pint of Carling and a half of cider was only 3.50.

It is a shame the place is so quiet as we heard many pubs are closing on a daly/weekly basis as trade is so bad. Lets hope things pick up soon.

Having read through all of the posts on this topic with interest i have to say that 8 euros for John Smiths and 6.5 euro for a G&T even at 1.50 euro to the pound is a complete and utter rip off , i was recently in Majorca , it was 3 euro for John Smiths and shorts + mixer ranged from 4 euros - 5.5 euro based on what brand or type you asked for- why is it 5 euros more for JS to travel to Tenerife in comparison ??
Whilst i appreciate our pound is week , prices like those above is explotation of holiday-makers and these bars don't deserve to be in business , i'm all for people making a profit but not profiteering which in my opinion these bars must be doing.
i paid 1.7 euro - 2.50 euro for a pint of Estrella or San Miguel which i thought was pretty good , i would watch out for the 1 euro deal , some of it was coming straight from a can from Lidl , so if that happens in Majorca you can bet it's happening in Tenerife as well.
I'm going to Tenerife in December this year (for the first time in 22 years) and reading about these rip off prices has really put me off , am beginning to wish we'd booked somewhere else to be honest (we could have gone to Egypt for less !!!)

some of it does read bad with the prices but don't worry "you will" get a lot of places with fair prices just make sure you use the right places.

definetly a rip off , i have just come back from Benalmadena and the sandancer bar was offering a pint of john Smiths for 1.50 Euro, other bars doing bottles for 1 Euro and local spirit and mixer 2.50 Euro, this on top of the prices for a flight to Tenerife its no wonder its quiet

We're not long back from PDLA and we didnt find the prices too bad at all, there was one bar we went into and the prices were high, but we found most places reasonable and lots of deals for food and drink going on.We've been going for years and the only real difference is all down to the Euro rate, dont let this put you off :cheers

Sorry but there is a lot of unnecessary scare-mongering going on here.
The low pound against the euro has been the problem this year, as is the case with every country in the euro zone, not just Tenerife.
Another reason is the high cost of flights to Tenerife this summer - the tourist industry there on the whole relies on visitors who HAVE to fly to get there.
Of course, as in everywhere there are upmarket bars and classy clubs charging the earth for drinks - and people willing to pay those prices but the vast majority of normal bars have realised what is happening and are doing their best to offer good value.
I guarantee you will find pleasant bars with good prices everywhere in Las Americas and Los Cristianos.
Obviously if anyone is drinking in hotel bars then that is up to them, but dont expect cheap prices there.
Also some people still dont realize the Canaries are as popular in winter as summer because of the super climate so just because its quiet at the moment it doesnt mean it will be even quieter in winter cos it wont.
Smurf 1873, if you havent visited Tenerife for 22 years then you are in for a lovely surprise. It cant really be compared to Egypt except in price, its a different culture, different atmosphere, you feel safe walking anywhere at night. You will love it.

Please just make sure you do not need Compeed blister plasters when you are there. I got mine in Boots here for £2.99. The same pack in Los Cristianos in a pharmacy 7.95 euros. Looked at the pack and they are made in Spain. Rip off or what? We will be back but apart from food and drink it's the other bits and bobs that we bought which shocked us.

The winter time is the busy time in Tenerife.
In the summer months folk have a choise of the costas etc. Much shorter flights. No use in the month of November!

The price of food and drink has risen for us Brits since the Pound - Euro rate fell a couple of years ago.

We always used to go self catering in December for a couple of weeks. Last year the total holiday cost was about £1700 and we are not big drinkers. This year we have booked, independently, flights and 4* hotel AI for 11 nights for £1250, a much better deal IMO.
