Hi People,
I've just booked a late last minute deal with Redcrest, going out this Saturday (13th). I know its not going to be a tent as its "accommodation with private shower and toilet".
Just wanted to know if anyone has any hints/tips for me. I'm taking a guess that I'll end up in Estartit since thats where they have most of their accommodation. Has anyone did a last minute deal with them before?
I've been to Castell Montgri before, 13 years ago when I was 16, so I'm really looking forward to it. I've picked up from this site that there is a Lidl's pretty near the campside entrance and as this is a really really cheapy holiday (I only got back from Turkey last month) I'll be using Lidl's a lot and have the case packed with Savoury rices, pasta and sauce etc for my three year old.
What sort of food etc do they serve on the coach. Would I be best packing my hand luggage with lots of food etc? Do you think I'll survive the coach journey with a mental 3 year old? I forgot to ask how long it actually takes but I'm taking a guess at 30 hours from Glasgow?
All other hints and tips greatly appreciated, the last time I did this journey I only had myself to think about!
Ooooo its exciting, wonder where I'll end up.
Thanks for all hints/tips in advance.

I myself was at castell montgri 13 years ago and i went on the dreaded coach journey i done it twice, could'nt do it now.
Anyway re the food on coach when i last done this which was a very long time ago it was mainly pot noodles but you could make up sandwiches, take juice etc and prepare something for the wee one that could possibly be heated up but why not call redcrest and ask them if they have any facilities on board coach.
We're off on 6th sept and now have 4 spare tickets avail flying from glasgow.
Have a good one and hope the wee one is ok on the coach..

Last time we went on the coach we had ten youngsters with us ranging
from two up to ten and they were great!
We had a crackin hostess who made toasties, sandwiches etc but mostly it's things
like pot noodles it's entirely down to the hostess apparently what she serves.
We had a breakfast at the first services we stopped at, then we stopped at a services
further down the motorway and we had a BK.
Next we had a meal on the ferry and we found that kept us going till late at night.
When we stopped in France during the night we bought croissants.
I hate to say but in between we had toasties from the hostess
Next stop was breakfast then Estartit
Hope that's some help.

I'm waving back across the Clyde to you, quite literally because I'm sitting overlooking the Clyde from my office at the moment, lol!
Thanks for that. I'll be quite happy if she does toasties and I think my little fella will eat one of those too, so thats lunch sorted. I'll take his weetabix in the morning for the bus!
Do you know, can I take his buggy on the bus? Its a folding three wheeler thing though not one of the little fold umbrella down ones?
Thanks for all your help. I just phoned Redcrest there and apparently it tells you on the tickets (which are on their way out) which resort we'll be going to. I soooooo hope its Castell Montgri and a decent caravan/lodge. I think all of redcrest's accommodation out there are pretty good now aren't they?

We had a couple of umbrella ones on the coach but I think it's at the
drivers discretion
Wouldn't think it would be a problem. Cidermonster knows a lot about
it but he's conspicuous by his absence at the moment

Cant really add too much to what Bluebabe has wrote. The journey can range from around 26-30 hours, and like babe says, take advantage of the main ferry stop, and get a good meal. In between times, we just had some sandwiches that we made up ourselves pre-travel, some crisps, etc, or bought some stuff from the hostess who served up lots of different stuff in her usual friendly manner (i know you read this, Mandy! ) - Actually, if you are heading out on Saturday, you might get Mandy, and her driving hubby Stevie....if you do, tell them Cidermonster says hi!
Dunno about buggies, i think i have seen people take them, but stored in the luggage hold, maybe for the entire journey, to be used once there. I pack some packages of food too, being a veggie i like to have my fav pastas, etc, available!!!.....and do take advantage of the LIDL, it's worth it!
Finally......if you are going to Castell Montgri (or any of their other sites for what it's worth) dont worry about their accommodation, Redcrest (in my opinion) have the best of all the operators, fantastic mobile homes! Let us know what it says on your tickets, i can maybe give you a better idea of what you'll get!
Cheers Cidermonster
My tickets should arrive today so hopefully I'll know soon. Also I called Redcrest re the buggy and they said I've to phone back on Friday and they'll have allocated the buses by then. If it's a single decker I can take the three wheeler as there's more luggage room on it, if its the double I'll have to beg borrow or steal an umbrella one. No problems about it being hidden underneath as we only use it at night for when mental hyper three year old becomes grumpy mental three year old! pmsl
Will definitely say Hi to Mandy for you if she's our hostess, she sounds very good at her job from what I've read of your previous posts, so I hope we get her and Stevie.
Thanks all for the advice, will put a post on later once the tickets arrive (fingers crossed!).

I have to say the Bay of Rosas looks fantastic and I'm sure we will make the most of it. According to Redcrest's website Castell Mar is owned by the same people who own Castell Montgri only it looks like a teensy weensy little version of it, there are only 300 pitches.
On a plus point, the Castell Mar Lodges are very similar to the Phoenix 100 lodges at Castell Montgri, only without the air conditioning. So I'm sure they are lovely.
Away to find nice things about Empuriabrava to cheer myself up!

Sorry it wasn't Estartit, but as you say Catell Mar does look good
Apparently it's had some good reports so I think you'll have a great time.
Please let us know how you get on
Helenxx
So looks like this holiday is turning into one that will be full of sightseeing and interesting walks rather than one where I lie by the pool all day! Buts that fine. I could lie by the pool all day but there seems to be so much more to do. Empuriabrava itself is actually the world's largest marina, every house has its own mooring for a boat, lol! My stepfather will be very jealous!
Cidermonster/bluebabe, thinking of the route, does that mean I will be last off? Calella de palafrugel gets dropped off before Castell Montgri doesn't it? And as Estartit is north of Calella with Empuriabrava being north of both of them, I'm guessing that we will be last to get off the bus.
Thanks for all your help both of you.
Regards,
Catherine x
Calella as it wasn't going to Empuriabrava so you'll probably find you'll be first off
Helenxx
Yay! Thanks for that!
...in fact, let us know once you come back...id be interested to see if it is just like Montgri on a smaller scale
Will do!
I hope you don't mind me asking something else. I haven't pre booked the Bed Linen package, she didn't offer it to me as part of the late deal, will I be able to book it when I get there.
Also I know they offer hire of beach towels, but what about normal towels, are they in the accommodation or will I have to take my own.
Many thanks (again!)
Catherine x
Linen? I think you should be able to hire it once there, although might be best to check that with them, give their head office a phone. Sometimes they dont make it clear, when we booked for May, we didnt hire linen, and packed a couple of sheets for ourselves....but when we got there, the linen was there for us, even though it hadnt been stated on the form we got back as part of a special offer, etc! They could have made it clearer, as we had packed our linen for no reason!!
Need to phone them today anyway, so thanks again.
BTW If I tell Mandy "Cidermonster" says hello, she'll know who you are and I won't look like a maniac? lol
Catherine x
What day are you leaving, Wed or Sat?
Oh...and Helen, thanks for the nice welcome back you gave me a few posts back....very kind Spent a lot of this week going to and fro to your neck of the woods!
Ah you should have let me know and I would have made you coffee
