Thanks for that nadditude. Yes i'm a bit like you i need to build up my confidence in deep water. i know that its not the water that scares me but what is lurking in it. I think that if the water is so clear that i can see the bottom i should be alright. i'm afraid that "jaws" is my all time favorite film. i've seen it a million times but it still scares the living daylights out of me.
ps i'm looking forward to reading your review
Has any one stayed at The Renaissance Golden View We had hope to go theThe Hyatt Regency in April 05 but they are booked .
I have tried to book Hotels with Longwoods & Panorama but all flights from Manchester on 10/4/05 &24/04/05 are booked.

Thaks for you info very helpful.
We ahve booked into RGV going on 24/4/05.
I ahve been reading quite awful comments about the airport.my hubby will not like all the delays.
We have just stayed at the Rensassance Golden View Hotel at Ras um Seid. Beautiful hotel set on the cliffs bordering the best reef in the area if you discount the Blue Hole at Dahab. However, think people should be aware that in order to go to breakfast one has to go up 110 steps and finding ones way to and from the beach areas takes several days to find the best route. For the older person or those with hip or knee problems this hotel is not to be recommended. Food great especially Acapulco Joes!
That's where the hotel next door (the Waterfalls) scores it has a fuicular railway as a lift between the blocks of rooms
Yes - the reef IS stunning! Better than the Maldives and Gt. Barrier Reef we think. Just wish water was a bit warmer - but then one would not get the clarity I suppose.
Food was better at the Renaissance according to friends we met who were at the Waterfalls. Also at least tour operators were allowed through our gates to collect clients. At Waterfalls pick up we had to remain outside and guests had to walk down the drive to get in the jeep/bus.

We were only B&B
So went out every night -- except we did use the Lebanese restaurant once (rubbish style a cross between Greek and Arabic)
But throughly enjoyed going down to Naama Bay and eating out at a different restaurant every night although we did have Tappanyaki twice it was that good
Fun walking down the drive to our coach -- that was their security decision ?!
The only reefs I have dived better than those in Sharm are in Mexico and well away from Civilisation in a place called Mahahual a small fishing village on the Costa Maya the southern most Caribbean coastal region of Yucatan. About 110km from Cancun as the crow flies only one hotel no electric for 20 hours a day water when it feels like coming out of the tap etc in other words totally unspoilt
Jenny please help.
We are booked into RGV in 2 weeks Was very very concrened to read about all the steps !!!
I ahve walking difficuties and was not told by booking agent about this.
Can you recommend a block which will be the best to stay in.
I am been told that there are golf buggies but I will feel very unhappy using one.
We went to the Renaissance at Christmas and we loved it. Indeed, there are lots of steps, but there are rails and you can take your time taking in the brilliant views. There are also 'places to stop off at' and sit! It would be difficult to recomend the best level to be situated, as I don't know what you like! The reception and restaurant (breakfast buffet and evening meal) are on the very top floor as soon as you walk in. Then you have a flight to go down to get to the other restaurant and main pool. Then you have another, and then probably another for the Mexican restaurant and beach! Sounds worse than it it honestly! And there is a road/path type thing along the side of the complex too. (In case you wanted a lift in the buggies!)
Don't let the steps put you off, we loved it and are going back in july to frazzle!
Have fun.

This is my first time on the forum and was wondering if anyone knew if how far Naama Bay is to the Renaissance.
There will be two of us travelling in August for our first time to Egypt and would like to hear from anyone with regards to this hotel or any other that they may have been to?
has anyone stayed at this hotel prior and is the airport as bad as everyone says, i am just about to send off the visas to the consulate , is it worth it or should i get them there, i am also not a very good swimmer, it is possible for me to paddle in the sea, and still tread water, would appreciate any helpful info, i have picked this holiday for 4 of us, and and dreading that certain aspects of it will not be enjoyable. :
i would get your visa on arrival, just have your uk £ or Euro's ready with your passport and remember you only need this visa if you are leaving the Sinai Peninsular (ie to fly to Cairo etc). I had no problems at the airport apart from the locals desperately trying to help you with your cases in return for tips - that can be quite a shock as they don't seem to take "no thank you" for an ansa - best to let them get on with it, hold onto your case with them and tip them....
Paddling isn't a problem as the sea is very shallow to start with and then drops deep and you can see where the difference is.
Read up on all the warnings before you go this site has been really really helpful as it will prepare you for things that WILL happen while you are away - and avoid where possible local blue and white taxi's, they are extremely dangerous.
Hope you have a great time.
i don't know whether you have read up on this hotel on the following website. they have lots of info here and lots of reviews and photos:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g297555-i9225-k3434-Renaissance_Golden_View_Hotel-Sharm_el_Sheikh_Red_Sea_and_Sinai.html
if you also check out this site ( from a member of the trip advisor website ) there are lots of photos of this hotel including the jetty.

Anyone any views?
Has anybody stayed in the family rooms for 4 at this hotel recently? If so I would be grateful if you could tell me what the bed configuration is, do you get four singles, double plus sofa bed or some other kind of arrangement? My kids don't want to share now they are older (understandably).
