Sorry to be a pain and bang on about this room/bed issue, but was the double a double bed or 2 twin beds? Only as well as a family room for 4, I could consider 2 twins. Often they don't cost much more than a family room sometimes less (how weird is that!).
Also where is Ras um sid in relation to Sharm, is it near Namma Bay where all the resturants are?
Hope you had a brill holiday, I'm assuming from what you said about the photos you had a good time. Did the hotel contribute to this? Will read your review when its up.
the room we had was a standard twin...sea view room. the beds were of a good size. there was an inconnecting door between us and the next room, which obviously we didn't use. the view from our balcony was magnificent.
the renaissance is at the far end of sharm near old sharm. it is next to the lighthouse and "el fanaar" which has a restaurant and a public paying beach. it is a good taxi ride into naama bay. but the hotel provides a shuttle bus four times a day which takes you in and can pick you up 2 1/2 hours later.
the hotel is only 5 minutes walk to fantasia ( or alif leiha wallia leiha) which has loads of shops, a great show in the evening and a few very cheap places to eat. we went here three times and we thought it much better than naama bay.
any more info just ask,

Ive got a price of £1,656 for b&b in 2 twin rooms for next spring, does that seem like an OK price for 4 people? It seemed alright to me.
we booked this hotel through portland direct on the internet. it offered the cheapest deal for the dates and airport i wanted. i paid just under £900 for the two of us...b&b for one week in a sea view room. medot.xx
just a quicky...this is a picture we took of the view from our balcony on the first morning of the sun rising. bliss or what. medot.xx
What a stunning picture, if we choose this hotel it certainly looks like its worth paying a supplement to get the sea view.
oooo forgot to mention.....saw two ospreys at the hotel which was a magnificent sight. there were other smaller birds of prey about here as well. missed the dolphins which played around the hotel on the day we landed...............and the sea was too rough to get into the water when the sharks were near the jetty!!!!!!!!!!! nature its a marvallous thing. medot.xx
ps brair will post in the relevent topic regarding the dolphins on monday. xx
this is the main building with the top swimming pool. we spent a couple of days here. our room was about a minute away.
this is another view from our balcony. you can see the main building from this picture.
this is one of the many streams that ran through the hotel grounds.
this is of the main reception area lit up during the evening.
what i like about most of the photos we took of the hotel......is there weren't any people in them!!!!! it was so quiet and spaced out.

Read your post about the dolphins. I kind of thought it would have been closed down by now as well.:bawl
doepsmc.
thanks medot, i'm pretty certain this is the one I am going to book. Am I reading it right are you going back next year?
well heres some more pictures as promised.
this is looking up to the rotunda bar. here you could get a drink and snack and look out to sea.
this is a picture of the aqua pool
ok this isn't a brilliant picture but this is of one of the ospreys that landed on one of the palm trees by the aqua pool
this is a picture of one of the many beach terraces you could use
this is one of the many many flowers they had here. the colours were amazing
here are a couple of underwater photos we took.....i'll be honest they just don't do it justice. the coral and fish that you could see from this hotels jetty were amazing. we identified 30 fish....that is not taking into acount the little fish or the many different butterfly fish.
providing we can get the flights and dates we will deffinately be going back to this hotel next november. i stayed in naama bay the first time i went and the fish and reef there are no comparison whatsoever to the one at this hotel.

medot it looks like a lovely place to stay. I am really keen. Have just got to persuade other half that this is the one. Hope it doesn't get fully booked as a result of the beautiful pictures.
After much deliberation and scouring lots of different hotels/brochures weve just booked this hotel for 2 weeks in july. We were just wondering if anyone has stayed there recently as some of the reviews are a bit dated. We havent found any info on towel service or the difference in standard and superior rooms(we opted for superior b+b basis),also entertainment if any is availiable.
Any info would be great.
Also it seems that the hotel is not too far from naama bay and that there are a few shops e.t.c nearby is this true???
Thanks!
Nige &Nic
i went in november and will be booking to go back we loved it that much.
we found that there was no need to take towels with us. you get them by the pool..and we tipped the pool boy on the first day...and he always reserved us the same sunbeds with towels on then gave us two further towels.
the hotel is a taxi journey into naama bay but there is a shuttle bus that runs frequently during the day/ evening.
literally about 10 minutes walk up the road is fantasia. here you will find lots of shops and a few very cheap places to eat. we found this better than going into naama bay.
we had a standard twin room...but it had a sea view. we loved it and were not disappointed.i think the superior rooms have a king size bed and are slightly larger.

Thanks for the info thats just what we wanted to hear glad you had a great time.Only 6 mths to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nige & Nic.
Were off to sharm el sheikh the first two weeks in july and staying in the ras om el sid area at the Renaissance golden view hotel we have been to sharm before but to a different area and in the winter time.We were wondering if anyone out there has any tips for eating out near by or anyone who has recently stayed in the hotel could give us any info?????We are also wondering if anyone who has stayed recently could let us know what the building work near the hotel is like and if it affects the hotel at all.
Cheers nige & nic.
Any updates on the hotel from members would be great. Particularly interested in what's in the Ras um sid area as I understand there is somewhere to walk to in the evening.
Would it be Old Sharm? Only managed to get to Namma Bay last year.
Thanks to any who reply. Doe
i asked about the ras um sid area a while back and got some very useful responses. Will have a look back and see if i can find it for you. only trouble is I cant for the life of me remember which thread i would of been on at the time. I probably hyjacked someones thread and started rambling on about ras um sid

Yes managed to get a good deal to the rennaisance golden view beach, going from Stansted yoopeee! I think when you're only going for a week and a flight is 5 hours that's a bonus. Normally I don't care where I go from as long as I go somewhere. LOL.
Its a Panorama holiday. I tried to book through the goingplaces web-site but ended up having to do a phone booking as it wouldnt take the kids details properly. it was about 200 pounds cheaper than Portland wanted for the same thing.
The hotel has brilliant reports and I think you can walk to Fantazia from it plus it's about 6 or 7 kilometers from NB, but in the other direction from where I was last year.
