Hi, my partner's parents visited Side last September and loved it, and this year they want to return to Turkey but a different resort as they don't like to go back to the same place two years running. Criteria are:
* Lovely sandy beach, and plenty of the hotels either on the beach or right next to it so they can go out of the hotel and are on the beach, or just have a very short (100-200m) walk to it. My partner's dad is a bit of a sun worshipper!
* Flat terrain with no slopes to walk up or hotels built into hills with tonnes of steps, as my partner's mum has problems with her back and legs which mean she can't walk very far or walk up slopes or steps very well
* They are 63 and 65, but would like somewhere with plenty of bars to visit in the evening. Not 18-30s please, but not dead by 9pm
* Not too expensive for drinks in town, nowhere that's more expensive than at home
* Lots of choices of boat trips and excursions. Last year they went on most of their trips from Alanya, so a resort where they'd be going from a different harbour to that, as they've either been on or considered most of the trips they saw from Alanya
* Not too British - they like to experience the country they are visiting and don't like to visit somewhere that's like Britain but in the sun
If anyone can think of any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!
Hi Helen, Icmeler is the first resort that springs to mind whereby you've got hotels looking out on to the lovely beach and there are plenty of bars nearby and most importantly it is flat and therefore easy for getting about. Another resort is Altinkum where I can recommend the Kusmez Hotel which looks out over Second beach and the bay which stretches across to Bodrum peninsular. Close by are plenty of bars and restaurants. Scroll back through this forum to October 8th, 2010 to find the Discussion on Altinkum and April 22nd, 2008 for the Discussion on Icmeler topics.
