After seven - amazing

Holiday street restaurants:

Roma - The best wood fired pizzas i have ever tasted along with wood fired roast potatoes. Massive menu that looks different from all the other italian food restaurants,

Riviera - pricey and really really posh

le jardin - easily the best. Tremendous adventurous food which all tasted unbelievable. The only place where we really enjoyed the wine for a decent price.
The owners' daughter delivers the menus at the start. She is five and will melt your heart with her patter.
To top it off, they recommend other places of similar standard.

Hot plate (down from subway, baga rd) - amazing lamb dishes brought in a mini tandori clay pot onto your table. New Zealand lamb n all!!!!

Hi

If you are travelling on the Sinquerim/Candolim to Calangute main road (lewandes, lacoste, nike, luma etc rd) you will see a clear sign for Holiday Street.
This street is on the beach side and hosts the Kerkar Art Gallery and is the access road for the Hotel Goan Heritage.

When you turn into this street you will have a sign for the Hotel Roma and Little Italy on your left. Keep going towards the beach and Riviera sticks out like a sore thumb. Vegas style entrance. This is again on your left.

The next area down is Le Jardin about five metres off the street.

For ease just ask any taxi driver. From Candolim i would say 100/150 at the most.

There is a website.

With under 4 week's to go thought I should check out which restaurants have gone up or down in the charts and as soon as I saw Floyd's & inferno my mouth started to water they were def on top of our list last year, we heard good things about the stonehouse but never got round to it, so will make sure we go to it this year. it seems scraf that we have the same tastes :glynis

Stonehouse. A good setting although at times has a Mozzie issue due to the plants very slow service, food OK.Also they seem to be in competition at times with Octopus, across the road as to who can play the loudest music! In addition the owner Chriss has a small child who at times runs riot in the place screaming whilst riding her little bike, not my idea of entertainment !!! Not my favourite eatery. :(

Cactus, Shepherds Pie. Took three friends here Saturday at about 9.30pm had been once before this trip, after recommendations from HT'ers, on the first visit the restaurant was almost full, they were busy but the service was good, statt attentive and the food as ordered was fine. On this second visit it was just the opposite, only about six people in, the staff were very indifferent and not at all interested in their customers, they lingered around the bar area chatting amongst themselves, our waiter had an attitude problem (cocky!) our orders were wrong and what we did get was not good eating, eg: Naan ordered extra crispy came like wet cardboard! I told the waiter that i'd had good reports about the place and food but that we wern't impressed, he just shrugged his shoulders. I think that this was a case of we are doing OK, we don't need to make that extra effort!!! Will not go again :(

Possibly the owner was not there that night. We had the same thing in Floyds last year, and also saw it in Big Daddies.

No Problem with any child running around the 2 nights we ate there over last 2 weeks, food service was not fast but food was good and when we are on our hols we not in rush for our food, have a nice drink and relax is what we like to do

The thing to remember with all these restaurant recommendations from our HT'ers, is that opinions given are purely subjective. I've read reports of people extolling the virtues of this or that meal at this place or that place, when all we they're doing is listing experiences they've enjoyed. It's not written in stone, that whoever follows will ALSO enjoy. I've tried some of the suggestions given out, and I really didn't see what all the fuss was about.....on some. I've also given a few selections - but it's my opinion. Others may disagree.

We all have differing and varying food preferences.

Only recently we've read of HT'ers attending these 'hot' spots, only to be disappointed with either the service or the food offerings......or BOTH
Obvious, but - keep an open mind. If you like it then, fine

Whatever floats your boat Gemma33 :) To me, the eating experience is not just filling my belly with food, but a pleasure that should excite the taste buds, stimulate the juices - no I'm not going off-topic  - and generally make me dissolve in the afterglow. And of course, the service is the icing on the organic carrot-cake

If the food's good, the service could lose it a few points, but if the food's bad...nothing can help it

over the flames serve lovely food tried the steak and indian both very nice and the naan breads are to die for you can watch them cooking in the kitchen through a big glass window also the toilets are lovely and clean

We, too liked Over the Flames. Only problem was they asked if I wanted curry mild or medium. The hottest I can manage is madras strength. When it came it was like a vindaloo. Know for next time stick to the mild and I might be able to manage it.
