As I was saying to Ve94n earlier, its all about individual tastes and likings.
We tried Over the Flames in November. It had great reviews other HTers. anyway we both hated it. Food was yucky. Nice setting and stuff and very central for watching everything that is happening, but didnt enjoy the meal. Maybe we just ordered the wrong food, I dont know. Everytime we walked or drove past (even in Feb) the place is jam packed. I wouldnt go back to try again tho. there are so many other nice places I would prefer to try instead.

Can I ask if anyone has ever tried Poisson Rouge on the Baga Road. Saw it loads when we were there last (a year last Jan boo hoo!) but never got to try it. Anyone got any comments about the place?

Oh and has anyone ever tried Taste of Tibet? Ron (Ronaldo190172) and I went there and the food was awsome, although starter course was like a main course in itself, and they missed an order off the main course, but wished we had never said anything because when it came we were too full lol.  We costed the meal up for 2 of us and 4 drinks and it came to 7 pounds, the food could have fed 4. Very basic setting, but excellent food.

Poisson Rouge is worth a try. French food only, but quality (and prices) are high. It is closed on Saturdays.

I managed to get off my backside yesterday and made it up to Chris' Sublime in Anjuna. I know it's been mentioned on here before but thought it was worth another mention.......FANTASTIC food, really good quality and great value for money, 2 starters, 2 mains with a couple of beers and water RS775/- Ok the setting isn't exactly the best but the food really is amazing.

Been meaning to add my recommendations to this thread since returning from second trip at the end of January - but have been too distracted reading all the trip reports and catching up on the wealth of information to be had on HT! Anyway, here goes...

My partner is vegan, so take time to choose restaurants that cater for both our tastes - which isn't difficult in Goa (another reason why we love it!) - and on this trip, these are the three establishments that stood out for us:

Saffron Court, Arpora - a recently opened restaurant, near to All Spice. Their 'blurb' bills it as a restolounge (there are some tables on the perimeter with lounge seating) and it is a large and airy place, with a lovely atmosphere in the evening. We had dinner there on several occasions as the food (and drinks) are excellent and both of us enjoyed every meal. The service was great - the waiters' even remembered just how my partner liked his Navratan prepared! Definitely worth a visit.

Veggie, Calangute/Candolim Road - this has also recently been opened and is a purely vegetarian restaurant - hence the name. The head chef there worked for years on the P&O Cruise ships and took a personal interest in our opinion of his cuisine. A really comprehensive menu (which we both fancied working our way through!) and I can personally recommend the sweet-corn fritters for starters... :D

Finally Pescadoro, Baga Road (I think I have the name right) - a lovely place, again with a great atmosphere - you could almost forget you were on the busy Baga Road once inside. We both enjoyed our meals and even though I didn't have the seafood (on this visit), I believe that is what it's known for. Cocktails are good here too.

My mouth's watering just thinking about all the great meals we enjoyed - can't wait for Trip 3!!!

I got back on Saturday and we went to Over the flames on the baga road the food is amazing (I had a tia maria coffee which cost more than my main course, it was worth it though) All spice in Arpora is right up there at the top of my list too. My mouth is watering just thinking about it and it was only last week only another year to wait now.

There dosn't seem to be many recommendations for the Southerrn area, so here's one
Martins Corner in Betalbatim very good for Goan and Indian food and fish, no English or Contnental food, main courses start at 80rps in fact the whole menu is very reasonable unless you want lobster etc. At least half the guests are local people, go early for a good table it's always busy.
You can have a look here http://www.martinscornergoa.com
ps-- I don't get commission nor do the Taxi Drivers

I looked at the Martin's Corner website and it looked immpressive - then I noticed the plastic chairs,

I don't care how good the food is, we don't do plastic chairs - they're only for the beach where people may come in with wet swimmies.

By the way - there are loads of local furniture makers who could supply traditional reproduction Portuguese chairs at a reasonable cost. :)

We went to Little Italy a couple of times. The food was excellent the first time we went, top notch. The second time we went it was good but not as good. The third time, the service was really poor and food not as great. This was a shame as the first time we went there it blew us away, it was like a little haven. Any other experiences?

yes you will find bargains and cheap places to eat but its nice when you have saved all that money to go that extra mile when having that special night in goa me and irina had asian clothes made me the long baggy knee length cool inthe heat top,and cool baggy trousers with nice tan leather slip on sandals, irina in a rasberry glitterley sari, tall russian women are made for saris we took a taxi from candolim to the capital and the marriot were i treated myself to what was thin on the ground in goa a good congac and a couple of margaritas for irina sitting in the marriot gardens by the river,it was good we were sitting as when i got the bill i may of fell over if i was standing, but i knew it wasnt going to be cheap the ambiance didnt lend its self to cheap,we left the marriot in one of there taxis they use 4x4s aircon top of the range, then to the deli dabar (check spelling) for a feast of food we had our pictures taken with the big guy on the door in his traditional garb the photo sits on our fireplace in a fancy crystal frame, locals waved and seemed happy to see us dressed in our eastern clothes for us two it was one of them special nights you have throught life,so yes you can get great value for money in goa but if you go that little extra mile you can turn it into a true magical night ,steve

Thank you for letting us know that you find plastic chairs in Restaurants unacceptable, and the sugestion as to the type of chairs Martins Corner should purchase.
I only made the posting as in my opinion it was worth a mention as it is a traditional Goan family run buisiness with good food and Ambience, I didn't expect someone who had never visited, to give such a reply.

Most of the best food I,ve eaten over the years in Goa has been in small local places , usually selling only local food, and in some of them, a plastic chair would have seemed like a luxury, but then it was the food that took me there, not the seats. Alan
