I've just watched Thomas Cook holiday TV. It shows from baga through calangute-candolim-sinqurium on the beach and there was no River Princess in sight how old is this video footage have they paintbrushed our lady out? It might be wishful thinking on behalf of Thomas cook..

there was no River Princess in sight

Similar thing happens on Sky TV "Indian ocean holidays"

They film outside Calamari beach shack, Look north towards Calangute and south towards Sinquerim along the shore line,

You can see the erosion thats taken place by the shape of the beach, so its filmed within the last couple of years

Yet theres no mention of the River Princess. :duh

How strange

How has the River Princess survived the monsoon, anything happening on board or has she been left to rot once again ?. Also whats the position at Sinquerm after the "rubber tube" efforts to save the beach ? Are they still in situ, or are the just left discarded making a big mess much worse. Alan

The black rubber tubes didnt last very long at all, they got destroyed around July when the monsoon proper kicked in. Bits of them are spread liberally around the beach area, or they were when I last looked.

Its such as scene of devastation these days that you dont gothere unless you have too.

As far as can be seen, nothing is happening on "The Ship", but to avoid any accusations of libel, can I emphasise - as far as can be seen. There may be a couple of guys below deck with a hacksaw...........

Tubes all along the beach from the ship to Sinquerim in different stage of breaking up, looks a right mess.
The only difference to the ship was lots of washing hanging from all the rails. :D

And 'you' save up your hard earned cash to travel 5000 miles to stay around this. Can't understand why all this isn't sorted out by now.

What a right s**t hole CCG Strip, North Goa has turned into. My advice to anyone who is travelling to Goa and hasn't been back for years.... head South.

Row, row, row the boat gently down the stream,

Had a close look at her today, all along the Baga side there is huge holes,I've also been told she's cracked across the deck just forward of the accomodatiom. Regardless of the tenders nonsense in the press, she is now beyond moving ever. It would be unaccesptable and uneconomoc to cut her up where she is, so I guess she'll be left for the monsoons to finish her off sooner or later

From what I have seen it is beyond moving. However I am no marine or salvage engineer.

Heres how I see it going.

Someone will win the contract by promising to move it intact. The usual flurry of work will take place for a couple of months.

The company will then vanish

Back to square one.

Thanks for the link.

One interesting thing in there is that in this new tender, there will be no time limit for completion of the job.

In the first sentence, they talk about towing off the RP - further on from Gramps' post about the condition of the ship (which I agree with) - does anyone else think that this seems an impossible thing to achieve?

Further on into the article they mention options of refloating and towing the RP away in one piece or cutting it up into 5 pieces or less - and removing the debris without any environmental damage.
I guess they mean "without any further environmental damage than has already been suffered".

I think it's just been a tragic and unnecessary spoiling of a once-lovely stretch of beach.

I am thinking of tendering myself, but could do with a few volunteers.
An idea of how it could be done withpout any further damage came to me whilst putting up Xmas decorations.
My plan is to go there with my suitcases filled with surplus Xmas ballons,(purchased in the post Xmas sales) these would then be inflated, stuffed into the insides of the vessel and then as it floats it could be towed away.
So anyone with lots of spare puff.......! :)

I think your idea would work, it would take a very long time out there though blowing up all those balloons..............
Put me down as No 1 assistant please :rofl :rofl :rofl

Another nonsense from the Tourism Minister, whose knowledge of salvsge is matched only by his knowledge of beach cleaning equipment. Over the years various requests for salvage tenders have been asked for. No salvage company with the experience to tackle such a job, such as Smitt, the Dutch world leaders, even submitted a tender, as the time for float off passed years ago. I would expect another company with no experience will get the new contract, they'll mess about until the nex monsoon, and eventually start cutting it up where she is, or walk away from the job. Meanwhile the Tourism minister will be off the hook and the destruction of Sinquerm will continue.
