Gramps: When i spoke to the fella yesterday who builds the shacks he said that the hold up was due to the hoteliers.

Allocation of shacks is due 29th October, although some of the shacks have started laying the bases. Each shack has to be smaller than last year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :que

From previous experience Spaldy, it takes less than a week to put up a shack and have it fully operational, so a lot shacks should be open before the majority of British tourists arrive! :cheers

Was told today by a man who builds the shacks for a living that they will probably not be up and running untill mid-december!

Building shacks for a living?
That's one hell of a seasonal job! :rofl

You make it sound like a one-man operation. :rofl

We were in Goa in November 2007 (when the shack licences were issued very late), the shack that we usually use was built by the guys who work in the shack.

Even though our shack wasn't ready until the end of November, there were many shacks up and running when we arrived on 15th November.
Maybe some shack owners just go ahead and erect their shacks on the expectation of getting a licence.

We usually visit Oct, Nov and consequently have seen the shacks being put up from scratch. Normally the "shack builders" , usually a couple of older guys , put up the main frame and roof supports and then move on, leaving the shack lads to do most of the filling in work. I'd say from start to having the main shack built at least about ten days, but the kitchen, which by law should have a stone flagged floor, electrics, fridges, toilets, etc at least a further week, so from start to the finished article at least a couple of weeks. Then the mattress "fluffers up" have to come and open the mattresses and what not, or you'll be reclining in last years accumulated sweat!! A couple of years ago, a young rat who had been nesting in one, made an appearance, much to the shock of the person sunbathing, I'll spare the shacks blushes by not mentioning it by name Alan

To be honest Colleen i used to think it only took a couple of days, but more like 2 weeks really.

Prettypollycat: Sarcasm is your strong point isn't it? I've noticed that about you a few times...do you have a problem? I didn't say the bloke built all the shacks just a few.

Squigs: You are talking a load of rubbish as normal.

I have to say that we were there at the end of October a couple of years ago ( only for a week) and we saw several shacks going up very quickly. Unfortunately, not long after we left, they all came down again.

Squigs: Do me a favour let me know which pile of wood your two sunbeds are in front of next week so i can avoid it. :tup

Just to keep the shack building info going, all I know about Ganesh shack is, that he has had his up within 4 days, working day and night (quite a bit at night to combat the heat of the day). All depends if they are built from scratch. Like Ganesh's and quite a few others, they are taken down the previous season in sections ie. the roof is in 4 parts so not much binding work to do.
As for the 'professional' shack builders - yes they do exsist. Babu who is employed by Ganesh had the help of Babu's father, who sadly passed away 2 years ago, great bloke and did an excellent job every time.
Fingers crossed for those going in the next few weeks, the problems are sorted, and they are allowed to start the season... Umm
Spike.

Thanks for that info Spike, I thought that after Spaldy's post,
that maybe age was getting the better of me and that I had imagined a shack being erected within a few days!!

PS. KISS, KISS, Spaldy!! Friends??
