Well I'm going to bite the bullet and buy an epilator this weekend.....Argos have a silk epil on special offer. What's always put me off is that if it didn't work or hurt too much I could have wasted in excess of £50-60 but Braun are offering a money back guarantee on a few models now. So I thought I might as well go for it with nothing to lose.......except the hair of course :rofl

oh my god...my appointment for my waxing is this thursday!!! my friend has chickened out on me so i got to go it alone!!!! having half legs, underarm and bikini done....ouch!!!! having my nails done as a special treat though to make me feel better!!! :)

Top Tip which does work when being waxed, take a couple of painkillers about an hour before your appointment.......it really helps dull the pain a little :tup Don't tense up just prior to the strip being whipped off or that hurts more, try and relax despite being worried about the pain, it's all over so quickly.

Having been a faithful salon waxer for years I definitly think the thinner the skin area the worse it is, underarms for me no problem nice and fleshy there, tops of legs no problem nor calfs but as for around the ankles it's a killer because there's little skin thickness there. Bikini line.....not too bad IMO, I cope okay with that.

I'm going for that Silk Epil at the weekend so will try it straight away and see how I get on....wish me luck, I'll be taking my painkillers just in case ;)

miss chief,
i have had an epilator for years and it was only used once, i have very thick coarse hair and i`m so sick of my bikini line spoiling my hols i`ve started using it down there. i have found if i use it as soon as i`ve come out of the bath it doesn`t hurt as much..i also stretch my skin while i do it. it`s painful but bearable..couldnt do me legs with it though :cry

I was in Boots yesterday and they had the babyliss salon smooth epilator half price, so it was down to £22.90 or summit like that.
It was definately no more than £25.00
I would get it but I'm too scared so will just stick to waxing. :yikes

mmmm Think I might be tempted to buy the babyliss salon smooth epilator for my little bits and bobs :tup

One bit of advice I can give, chose whether you use an epilator or wax, always exfoliate the area regularly, especially the bikini line because people tend to forget that bit.

I used to go to the local salon for a "landing strip" done in the nether region, never liked the idea of having a minge fringe poking out. but I once had an ingrowing hair that came up like a hard lump and despite antibiotics I had to go to the local hospital for it lanced, and the gunk that came out of it was horrible, the culprit hair being about 3 inches long, but it seemed 3 foot long when they were pulling out of the gunk....I've always made sure that I exfoliate regularly in that region ever since.

One good thing about being a woman of a certain age, is that you tend to lose hair and what does grow is fine and sparse, unfortunately some women sprout a moustache instead, so the epilator would still come in handy :rofl

The pain,? well you get used to it, it's a bit like having a tattoo done, it hurts like hell at the beginning, but the bodys endorphins kick in and as you progress, it doesn't seem so bad afterall.

Sanji, that must of been awful having to go to hospital. I could put up with the pain of useing an epilator, but only if there,s no rash or bumps after.

Got a great tip from an experinced and long established Epilator user today......have a pro wax first everywhere you intend to epliate for the first time and use the epilator from then on in to remove the hairs as they grow back. According to her, far, far less painful for first time users and much quicker too :tup

Already booked my wax for Saturday, then off to buy the Braun Epilator. I guess I wont have to start using it until a couple of weeks time....update to follow for those interested :)
Sanji.......been there done that, but thankfully my waxing lady got mine out, it was HUGE and looked cone shaped and seemed to me to be about 5" long :yikes It was a reoccuring problem until she took the core out, it's never been back since.

morning just read some of the above posts,
i had my first wax last year and lets say never again, i cried like a baby afterwards, think they may have something to do with shop that done it (lets say they are closed down now)

ive got an epilator, and it has been out of the box once!

sanji, i would much rather have a tattoo than a wax lol ( i dont feel them as much) apart from one on lower inside arm, hurt like hell.

i have pcos so girls know all about the beard im just a big ball of hair! :rofl, do need to find something as it really annoys me to keep shaving and missing bits then getting that awful rash whilst on holiday, its bad enough covering up all the baby lines (as i call them) let alone the rashes aswell. :yikes

what a state i must look lol :rofl defo thinking of trying the sudo cream that someone mention earlier.

Thats what the ingrow go and no bumps does and on the ingrow instructions it recommends using it a few days prior to waxing. I have started using it on my legs now, I've noticed the last couple of days I've had a few red bumps appear on my legs, I'm having them waxed next week so I've started popping some solution on now. Seem to be getting them from shaving now as well :(
