Doing next instalment as a quick summary as I keep trying to write it as a daily thing but it all seems to merge into one so here goes:

Over next few days I was invited to join HT Julian and his son Ben at Bobbys shack. Had a few beers there with Julian on his last day and some very nice mix noodles. Bit peeved having to pay for a sunbed as I'd not had to so far but the shack was very nice. After Julian came back to the UK I discovered Club 21 shack which became my "local". Free beds, great shack boys and some wonderful repeat guests who made me feel so welcome. Food there was excellent too and I can especially recommend the chicken masala and aloo gobi. Heaven.
Through this shack I was invited to the Tuesday karaoke at Ma Thai (good laugh though I don't usually do karaoke)and also to an Indian birthday party taking place at the shack one night. The shack arranged me an escort who collected me at my hotel, and walked me to the beach. The party was a bit of a letdown though as when the "party" turned up it consisted of an all male group of 40 from Mumbai and me ! thank heaven for mobile phones and I frantically called an English friend I'd met 2 days earlier who came to my rescue. Anyway - party was over by 10 as after some unenthusiastic dancing to some 70s hits it disbanded as the group had brought their own alcohol and left when the shack wouldn't let them drink it. I was then driven home by one of the shack boys who instead of doing the 2 minute journey to my hotel detoured all the way down to baga, down Titos lane then all the way back to Candolim????
I had many a good night out, namely Teama on the beach road (where I met a great bunch of UK long term stayers), Jazz corner (top beach road turn right - good live band on Tues and Thurs) and ice n spice where I was taught some very useful and amusing konkani. I also found a very friendly place near casa seashell (cannot remember the name but is on the main road almost directly opposite Tony's place - comfy chairs and did nice tandoori )where the waiters were all from Northern India and really went out of their way to chat to me. I only went to J29 sports bar once and they only had Cobra and at 100 rupees a bottle I decided it was not for me.
All in all once I got over initially being apprehensive as a woman alone I enjoyed my holiday and met some fantastic people. I must admit that being alone I saw the place through different eyes but I still loved it. A couple of things happened during the first week that changed the course of my holiday but this had nothing to do with the place and I'm still looking forward to going back there in 2 weeks.

Sounds like a really good holiday Sim1. Can I ask what you meant when you said you saw your holiday and Goa in a different light because you were a lady travelling alone this time :think I am just being nosey thats all!
Will you be in Goa around 17 March and be coming to Mollys?
Your report is smashing by the way :D

Great report Sim1, it's really getting me in the mood we go a week tomorrow. Have to agree with you about Teama Bar, it's a great place for meeting up with people, we always start off there on an evening, even if it's only 1 drink before we go for something to eat.

Teamas my local - you may have met some of my friends, most of them should be still be there when I'm out in March.

The Teama mob were friends of the famous Les ???? that might mean something to you. Great bunch of people. Really saved my sanity on more than one occasion.

Got to tell you that we went to a meet up at Teama bar with Mike Richardson and Carol and about 10 other Ht members and I had the worst meal I have ever had, sweet and sour prawns it was yuk. I even got Newbutt1 to taste it, it was vile loads of dye and watery. Disgusting. However the meetup made up for the bad meal ,we had a great evening and met lots of really nice people all arranged by Mike. Well done Mike and Carol. I dont really rate the place but its down to personal choice. The best drinking and meetup place for a chat to friendly people I found was Nirvana down Holiday St. Fantastic people and so friendly and they did a lovely Pizza when you get sick of the spice. WE took one back every now and again for the lads who worked at Kingstork where we were staying and they woofed it down
. Hense the next morning we got special treatment at breakfast. :cheers

Yep - Famous Les from Manchester! I'm looking forward to seeing them again, I know some will have gone home.

Yes Les was from Manchester and yes some of them were leaving while I was there.
Gemma I just saw your Q about why I saw Goa in a different light because I was a woman alone. Probably the best way to explain it is that I was treated differently so saw things differently. I wasn't treated badly or anything, in fact most of the time quite the opposite, but I was treated differently. I've always gone with my family but am recently separated and boy did it make a difference. Things that I'd always taken for granted with my hubbie suddenly had to be thought about and I learned so much more about the culture and people by spending time with them alone. Especially as a woman. It's hard to explain without going into lots of detail but it was a definite eyeopener.

Hi sim well firstly you done a very brave thing going away on your own and when you are used to doing things as a "couple" its very difficult to adapt to being on your own again. But overall you had a good holiday and youre going back which is wonderful. Looking forward to (hopefully) catching up with you in Goa :tup
