Glad that you enjoyed your SIA flight. I am travelling with them for the first time on the 17th November to Singaport/Auckland and home from Perth.
Darren has told me which Aircraft they are using for these flight and they have a Pitch of 34" which is excellent for economy.
I am travelling solo so I look at the Airline see what films are showing bring a GREAT book eat a little and hopefully sleep a little. I fell asleep on my sofa yesterday so there is hope that I will sleep a bit on the flight'
It seems to be that when you fly with them the allocate you an aisle or window seat but not a seat number. Only if you book directly with the Company do they do this.
I might give them a call about it as I have assistance booked.

Either way I feel sure that everything will go well. Using Qantas for my flight Sydney to Perth at the end of my holiday as SIA don't do the domestic flight.

Thanks again.

As long as you don't have a connecting flight first you can do an online check in up to 48 hours beforehand.
The entertaintment system is brilliant- over 100 films on demand and loads of different tv channels. You also have audio where you can even put together your choice of music from the countless CDs. If you like playing computer games you will be in your element too :)

Thank you for that. I did have a look at their entertainment and it looks fantastic as you say. On flights I have travelled on during the past couple of years I have seen some really good movies that I missed or they are completely new. No computer games for me!!
I am flying straight out of Manchester to Singapore staying 2 nights and then flying direct to Auckland. Flying back from Perth but I am not stopping over so will need to change in Singapore but I think I have sufficient time to transfer.
This is the home bound trip and I am never so bothered by it. If I miss the flight then I know a company such as SIA to get me home.

SIA goes twice a day with A380

Singapore Airlines is to introduce a second daily flight from London using the Airbus A380 mega jumbo.

This follows the airline taking delivery of a sixth A380.

This has allowed SIA to add a second daily A380 flights from Heathrow to Singapore from tomorrow (Saturday).

The Singapore-London route is the first in the world to be operated twice a day by the superjumbo.

Aside from London, SIA operates daily A380 flights between Sydney and Singapore, and Tokyo and Singapore.

Pity Manchester flights don't have the new Aircraft. The reason for flying with SIA was being able to fly direct to Singapore. Following a 2 night stopover to fly directly to Auckland.
The more flights and the more Airports in my opinion the more likely you are to lose your baggage.

Just back from a Celebrity Cruise and there were 200 guests whose Baggage was missing. Some got it the following day but others had 3-5 days to wait. Don't know for sure if everyone got their bags.

I understand the Aircraft they are using out of Manchester has 34" seat pitch and that extra 3" does count even if you are like me 5ft 1".

The airport can't handle the A380 as yet (awaiting taxiway upgrades, nearly complete) and SIA can't fill a daily 777-300ER year round let alone an A380! One of the main reasons they don't is the number of Business travellers out of MAN is tiny compared to Heathrow. They make more from Business / First passengers than economy travellers so I suspect if / when they do introduce an A380 to MAN, it'll be a higher density version like what Emirates have planned for 2010.

As always great information Darren. I don't really care which aircraft I am on as long as it gets me there. Well not quite.

Thanks

I flew with SIA to Malaysia, via Singapore last month, on a 777-200ER out of Manchester.
Having flown KLM last time, SIA was fantastic - good leg room, comfy seat, fantastic IFE, good food, attentive and helpful crew. I knew before i left Man that my bag had not connected with the SIA flight, but i had to go anyway, but the crew were lovely, and low and behold when i got to KL, there was my lonely bag going round on the carousel!!!!
The flight was very busy going out but coming back, i scored an empty row, so i stretched out, the crew fastened my seatbelt round me and off i went to sleep, fantastic!
They really have got a class product and I would not consider flying with anyone else to Malaysia. The shocking service and dreadful planes flown by KLM is never something i would consider again, having flown SIA.

Great to hear that you were so impressed with SIA. I am travelling alone and IFE is quite important especially on the outbound flight as I am leaving in the morning and will have the whole day to get through.
I am so looking forward to my trip and 4 weeks today I will be on that flight.

Darren could you please confirm which Aircraft will be used for my flight with Singapore Airlines from Manchester to Singapore on the 17th November. I just wanted to look at the seat plan on seat Guru as I would like to be able to make the best choice.
Do you have any favourite place on the aircraft (not 1st or Business I can only dream)
I normally like to be as near the front as possible. I do have assistance booked as I need this when I am doing long haul and changes etc. (Medical problems)
I don't know how busy the flights may be and also do you think that I should go on line as soon as that 48 hours deadline to check in on line.
I will need to go to the check in desk in any case re the assistance but I would like to have a seat pre booked.

Once again sorry for the ramble and thank you in anticipation

keela1eva2,

It'll be a Boeing 777-212/ER. That's the only aircraft type they operate from MAN these days since they pulled the 747-400 service on a Tues/Fri. There's a seating plan on SIA's website or a clearer one on Seat Guru. Seating is personal preference really. The economy section is pretty much all the same so all I'd say is avoid areas too close to the toilets or galleys to avoid being disturbed on what is a pretty long flight. I can't comment on how full the flight will be (reasons here), but expect it to be pretty full given the time of year with people visiting relatives and going home for christmas etc. If you want a specific seat or part of the aircraft, it may welll be worth checking-in online. It saves messing about when you get to the airport so you just have to drop your bags off and Terminal 2 is always busy at that time of morning (check-in desks are on the left as you enter the terminal, about 1-5 from memory).

Thanks Darren as usual you are a STAR! I really want to avoid the seats where there is no option to move the seat on a slant or whatever you call it as on seats with a facility behind it. I can look at the plan and identify these. Many thanks again

SIA I think without doubt are the best airline I have flown with ! Very good leg room etc and on the flight from Singapore they gave me a seat with an empty one beside me so that I was able to lie down (short little me with my legs curled up I slept for 5 hours.

Today in Auckland I am more tired than yesterday. I used the jet sleeper as and added pillow and lovely and soft it is too.

Going off now to do a tour of the city. By the way the Crowne Plaza in NZ is a big let down after the Ritz Carlton in Singapore but you get what you pay for. They did give me an upgraded room as I was on my own and pay the same as if there were 3-4 people in the room.

Got an upgrade in the Ritz also so that can't be bad! Loved that hotel and I post a review when I am home.

Now in Perth and will be starting for home in 13 days. How glad am I that I am travelling with SIA!! They are a great Airline and especially after travelling from Sydney to Perth a 4 1/2 hour flight with Qantas where everything was a bother to them. Just to get a blanket as the air conditioning was so high and I was frozen was a big deal. Got one in the end.
Otherwise they were just OK but not a patch on Sia.

Mobor One,

As with your Cathay Pacific question, please supply dates of travel. LHR-SIN will be one of Boeing 747-400, 777-200/ER, Airbus A380-800. SIN-DPS a Boeing 777-200. Seating plans are on Singapore Airlines website.

I have never flown on a scheduled airline before.
Is there a beginners guide regarding how to check in online ? Can I specify certain seats?
How far in advance can the checking in be done?
